Switched from gym to basic bodyweight drills in garage 20 years ago..still ripped af at 53 years old!!!
Just checked your channel garageman brutal training keep it up grandpa🔥
to maintain the physic bodyweight is enough. keep the muscles active, burn calories.
I switched to calisthenics once I became a father. I was an avid gym goer and was quite strong. However, by switching to a body-weight based workout routine, I noticed that my recovery time was quicker, my grip strength is the same, my muscle mass is pretty much the same (natural ecotomorph), I am less sore when I wake up in the morning, and I can keep up with my kids playing in the backyard or sports field as they age into teenagers.
- Pullups/Chinups (using different grips)
- Pushups (using the floor, chairs, stair, etc.)
- Lunges (floor or one foot on a chair)
I recommend adding dumbbells for arms and maybe heavy kettle bells for squats or weighted lunges.
Calisthenics = Really Really Hard.
More like Demon's Souls level of difficulty basically.
Calisthenics = fun
And that's why master the basic first is important
@@Ensensu2 no much more difficult than any other physical activity, for eg lifting weights. I do both. Once your body adapts to it after 1-2 weeks it then all comes down to the discipline
The harder the task, the better the reward will feel :)
#17 - You will eventually run out of exercises... Sure but once you can muscle up, flagpole, handstand pushup, front lever and back lever you've basically reached super saiyan mode.
high reps. locked up we'd do up 1-2.5K in a day. i never did pullups but i've seen dudes knock out 300 a few times ina day. thats what 9-1200? these are 16-18 yr olds.
Frrr
@@diadiaa892 only a few. maybe 2.
There are so much more like the plance, maltese,90* pushups, back lever, 1 arm pull ups or even 1 arm muscle ups,...there are so many that you can ever run out of them.
Changing grip and even changing rest time helps as well
If you’re new to working out, don’t be disheartened by how hard a pull up, push up, sit up, ect, can be. It took me 6 months to be able to do a real, good form pull up.
It’s a journey, don’t let people who are 10-15 years along dissuade you from starting yours.
I Always remember newcomers to Cali. "Pull-up is pulling your entire body weight up. It isn't easy and most people can't do it. It's the same to give you a rope, pass it over a tree branch and tie it to 80 kg (around 160 lb for thous who lives in the past) of sandbags and ask you to pull it up over your head"
Pro tip: buy gymnastic rings, cost 30 bucks and you can do every exercise you can think of. Isolation exercises, compound exercises, back, chest, shoulders, arms, muscle ups, pull ups, dips, push ups, rows, face pulls, everything can also be modified to your own level. Get them right now!
The vid mentioned that it can be boring with minimal exercises but its really not boring with how many variance to the exercises there are. Plus I just put in some wireless earplugs and workout to music. I love the fact that I don't have to be around people while working out.
Calisthenics also has some exercises that require you to cross a large strength gap that is difficult to do without added resistance, meaning you will most likely have to mix in some resistance training to advance.
As a former gymnast - Calisthenics are really really hard
I know people who've been lifting weights for 10+ years. But the moment they try calisthenics it humbles them
Humbles them? Why ? You can’t do what they do, does that humble you?
@giorhivers1672 What I mean is that lifting free weights and building muscle in the gym is a totally different ball game than calisthenics. I would know. I tried an American Ninja Warrior test course because I figured, since I'm a decently strong guy in the gym, that I'd be good at the shows course. I was wrong. I can do normal pull-ups, but I can't hop the bar from 1 level to the next up the ladder 20 times.
@@giorhivers1672 . Anyone can push weights around. That's not a skill. I lifted weights at the gym for 15+ years. I would know. Controlling your body in some compound movements can be much more difficult because there is no progression such as doing a human flag vs gradually adding weights to a barbell until you reach your desired max rep.
10:28 you CAN do isolations with calisthenics. it just makes less sense, since the main goal of calisthenics is compound movements. and technically, even when using free weights, they no such thing as "absolute" isolation. you'd always have some muscle group supporting you or keeping you stable while doing the main work on a few muscle groups.
And Cali have isolation exercises, some areas are harder to target like lateral shoulders but they totally missed it saying "it's only calves"
i am slightly overweight and have a background in power lifting. recently i got into climbing and it led me to improve significantly on pull ups, and indirectly got me hooked into bodyweight exercises and i hope to get more deep into the calisthenics realm. thanks for the tips!

I commented too early. Almost every comment was "first", "half", or some other unintelligible nonsense. I always come to the comments section for opinions to fact-check our just entertainment, but it was very lackluster.
Would you rather it be filled with the typical MIC cheerleading?
I'm doing push ups, pull ups and dips every week. So far my best was 78 push ups in a row, 10 pull ups in a row
Great! I'll suggest squats
Gymnastic rings, a heavy kettlebell bell (40-60lb) and a pull-up bar.
Kettlebells are bad for your back
@@1individeo nah
After lifting weights for many years I turned to a mix of calisthenics and weight lifting (dumbbells and kettlebells only) and I'm really enjoying the results. As someone else mentioned I recover much quicker and I still put on enough muscle mass for effort to show. I'm not trying to look like a bodybuilder so for me its about losing weight, staying fit, and having enough muscle mass in the right places for an even and aesthetic look. I exercise from home with very limited equipment which saves lots of time and space. When I used to lift weights at the gym my free time was centered around making trips to the gym. That's no longer the case as I don't exercise in gyms. I couldn't be happier.
I feel like the definition of calisthenics has changed over the years. When I was younger, calisthenics implied things like push-ups, lunges, pull-ups, one arm push-ups, jumping jacks, mountain climbers and stuff. It wasn’t until more recently that “calisthenics communities” became a thing and they started practicing gymnastic skills.
Once gyms were closed during the pandemic, playgrounds became places for people to workout (after all, the schools were closed). These workout places morphed into "dog parks for people"
@@chrishansen9379 I do calisthenics on my bro everyday.

When people ask me what calisthenics is, I say the basics are things like push ups, pull ups, dips, squats etc. but the levers, planches and stuff are more advanced
Awesome video! Btw some of us talk about these quite a bit haha
Pure calisthenics athlete here and personal trainer ....i wish calisthenics didnt get looked at in such a manner it does not need to be overwhelmingly difficult....progressions regressions and variations are the key! this is why when you begin a trainer is a good idea;)...

i live up north, i usually do calisthenics in early spring to summer, and i do a bodybuilding routine in fall and winter for bulk. i get slightly heavier in winter, and that helps with the body weight
I do both calisthenics and weight lifting.
Good job, buddy
You’d be surprised with Calisrhenics. Once you learn how to fully balance while pushing or pulling from your centerline, you gain IMMENSE gym strength.
Most guys who can full planche, end up dipping and benching, throwing on at least 2 plates under the belt or on the bar.
Or a one arm pull up? Imagine the strength to not swing and pull up your own body weight (I’m 190 lbs for example)
Best part, is that I don’t blow up and get saggy like the body builders. We stay super lean and muscular all around even pushing past 50 in older folks.
Crazy timing! I literally started incorporating push-ups and planks with my diet and I feel great! I'm placing on getting a pull up/dip tower too, didn't know all that about dips! Thank you infographics!

Would you make a video about Egypt since 2011 till now?
Yes calisthenics movements can be difficult. There are alternate movements and ways to build up.
Same can be said for weightlifting. Most people starting out don't have the mobility to do a proper squat, deadlift, bench, etc.
You should definitely start with calisthenics for a few reason. As the video said it is mainly compound exercises, you get more out of it full body wise. To include the mobility you will need for weightlifting.
It does a better job at burning fat. It is more of a conditioning exercise than a strength building exercise and you should condition the body first to workout before thinking about building strenth. Yes you will also get stronger with
calisthenics.
Then, once you have developed strength and conditioning from calisthenics you can focus on hypertrophy and strength training with weightlifting. You could also progress to more difficult and explosive calisthenics/plyometrics. Depending on what your end goal is.
Calisthenics should not be boring, a proper HIIT exercise routine with calisthenics is way more intense then just lifting.
In my experience calisthenics will give you results faster due to the compound exercises and fat burning, which will help with wanting to continue exercising for a beginner.
At some point you should incorporate weightlifting to some degree especially to develop the legs, fix imbalances, etc.
you can find people to talk to in parks as well, if not more often
Stopping Calisthenics altogether was a mistake on my part. When you do calisthenics, you will unconsciously keep body weight somewhat light and lean. Then do only free weights, of course I got stronger and look good in shirt, but without shirt, I am fat.
Everyone should have pull ups in their routine. Weighted pull ups are superior to barbell rows in every way and the wider range of motion will make your shoulders more flexible and resilient.
As long as it not of them weird calisthenics pull ups where you literally twirl yourself into circle. Weighted is always better slow control
It depends on the purpose of the workout. Time under tension is good and should be done. But for explosiveness, a plyo pull-up would work better. Launching yourself off the bar and being able to spin in a circle takes a lot of explosiveness. For instance if you want to jump higher and only do slow and steady squats you won't get anywhere. It just comes down to what is your goal.
Fast reps have their benefits as well, as long as you maintain proper form.
This is why calisthenics is not as limited as the video makes it seem. Speed and explosiveness play a role as well.
barbell rows give you a thick back, pullups are for lats i do both
Weighted inverted ring rows.
i can only do 4 wide pull ups x 4sets, closer distance pull up i can do 8x4 sets. ive been working on my forearm my grip and arm had significantly grown my grip has been stronger and still i could only do few reps. the thing is pulling my 175 to 180lbs body has better effects on muscle hypertropy.
I am not ashamed to admit it. My mimic was the hero and I was the side kick. They dragged me across the finish line so many times. I still love the dlc's gameplay. Story could have been better in certain parts imo
Ever tried to jump up a hill? That will build your legs!
consistency is really it.
TRX or rings, and rings are very much cheaper. Also pushing exercises on rings, like dips and pushups, are more difficult than on p bars or floor. Pulling exercise are about the same.
dragon squat pose is the goal for both legs.
Bodyweight bicep curls and skullcrushers: am I a joke to you?
So who else has been doing this without the proper protien intake? 😅 REMEMBER you still need to EAT APPROPRIATELY
I eat exactly 9000 milligrams of protein daily
I’m an expert on the bar… 🍺🍺🍺
Been doing cals for a few months. It's better than just weights for me. I just do it, everywhere. I sleep great me head is clear. I can still play with the kids. And my joints are great no.
For me calisthenics is farming with a plow, after that doing kusti 😌🙂👍
How about now.
That kid will be around any minute now crying about how he didn't get first
@@DontDelete-fp8oyany minute huh
Jerry is right. You had it out. Should've put the pistons you want in it
I hurt my self lifting weight I'm not strong enough to do , I'm I'm not strong enough to lift my body I shouldn't lift weights calisthenics best benefit is that all exercises use several muscles at the same time growing in strength, vs skipping leg day lifting but my arms are huge push up pull ups target legs and abs at swell as arms back at the same time 😊
Did one of the video creators just start exercising?
Lol why the characters in the park in the beginning look like they holding on for dear life due to high winds lol
Bands, rings, and weighted vests are a great asset for calisthenics training. Most important asset is time. Go through the process and anyone can achieve what the greats like Broly gainz, Goku Pump, Akeem Surpreme, that’s good money, Jax blade, bar stars, and Mike the saiyan have achieved. In addition, biceps can be trained and isolated by doing curls on the bars, rings, or trx system. Last tip, rings function the same as trx and the additional benefit of being more affordable.
So calisthenics is a good foundation, but building (at least some) extra muscle is also useful?
What's really, really hard is finding a video that isn't narrated by a voice bot.
This is all like true
21 is false. Calisthenics can use more isolation exercise than calves.
Triceps extension is easy to isolate and you can do a bicep curl using forehead to bar curls
I been training for a little less than a year and can almost do a pistol squat reliably
Is narrator a practioner of calisthenics?
Calisthenics is not hard to get into. The barrier for entry is very low. I love Calisthenics. Nothing more so people don't have the patience to achieve all that there is to achieve and a calisthenics especially when it comes to skills. I say you gain what you train. I think when people see calisthenics they're probably intimidated when she all the cool skills such as the planche, front lever, or handstand push-ups. Those aren't needed to do calisthenics though, one can stick to the basics such as push-ups, pull-ups, dips, squats, and lunges, and rows. Hope this helps. Check my channel out for helpful calisthenics content
it increases blood pressure
Being obese makes it sooooo much harder trust me. But when u get to a certain point mannnnn ur strength skyrockets
Putting on mass muscle and looking like one of the people in a bodybuilding competition isn't the goal of calisthenics. If that's your goal, then yeah, the gym is a much easier way to achieve that.
The goal of calisthenics is to be able to move your body better, and while having more muscle helps to some degree, adding further mass beyond the necessary would just be counterproductive.
Putting on artificial mass, on the other hand, are perfectly fine if the base movements starts becoming easy for you. This just increases your capacity to move your body while carrying extra load, like, say, you're carrying a backpack. I don't think adding weights is contradictory to what calisthenics is in its core.
I'm a little worried about not being able to isolate the muscles with calisthenics. I want to focus on building my biceps, but it seems like that will be difficult with calisthenics. I'll probably have to incorporate some weight training into my routine.
Clearly someone didnt watch the video before commenting. Calistenics is a COMPOUND exercise, meaning each exercise involves multiple muscle groups. Not sure why you only want to focus on building biceps when the ultimate goals for anyone who wants to build bigger arms would be to work on exercises that targets bicep, forearm AND triceps. So unless you only want to have a bulging bicep with a bony forearm and flappy tricep, sure you can go get anything that is weighted (Eg. something as simple as a weighted bag) and just do icep curl all day.
Do chin ups
If you’re worried about biceps just look at male gymnasts physiques lol Straight arm strength and doing chin ups as a bicep exercise is all you need to get massive biceps
Incorporating weight training is totally fine; no reason you can't do both.
But there are some isolations with calisthenics, especially if you have rings. If not, underhand aussie rows are pretty good, but with rings, pelican curl negatives and faceaway ring curls (which are extremely similar to faceaway cable curls, but you don't need a machine) are very effective.
Chin ups will grow them well. It might not get them 100% maximized like a bodybuilder but they won’t be small. It can’t be too hard to find something to curl if you’re worried about it though.
I’ve been actually loosing weight doing pull ups daily
As Seinfeld discovered Mr Mandelbaum is tougher than he is when it comes to getting in shape...
It’s go time lol
You have to condition your body to be used to doing pull ups.
Of course. It's super hard at first actually, even if you lift weights, but as you do a little bit at a time, your body starts getting stronger. Pull ups are surprisingly hard though. 😂
friendly reminder : weight class is just a number they don't determine a person size n shape
all of this is everything every calisthenics dude talks about
but nice summary
It’s fun
We did them alot being kids
I just switched my workout plan to calisthenics literally this morning this is creepy lol
Burpees didnt get a mention😢
Because they're horrible exercises for your joints and back. The only benefit to burpees is the intensity which leads to burning more calories. Going out on a run is much healthier, burns a lot more calories since you can sustain it longer and doesn't require all that back bending.
@@MrSupernova111 You're either doing them wrong , not doing them, or you're doing the wrong kind. There's a reason why MARSOC trains burpees, Seals as well.
@@danhemsworth7488 . I have back problems. Burpees literally hurt my back. Running doesn't hurt. But again, what is the benefit of burpees other than intensity and burning calories which I can do with many other exercises more efficiently? Its an exercise that makes no sense to me.
You missed it seems like 200 calisthenics movements for legs
By the way calisthenics mostly is the pursue of controlling your body to the maximum skills.
It'll take you a while to be on the level of D300, or RipRightHD, but it is possible.
I love how People who dont know much about calisthenics always think the skills requires alot of core strenght😂
#48: Calisthenics is harder for tall people
Sooo, would it be easier for shorter people?
Yes it is
As a guy who did close to 30 muscle ups at 80-85kg bodyweight, and a certified personal trainer with 15+ y xp.. promoting Trx is WORSE than promoting hard drugs and/or steroids.
Good luck doing a flag if you are above 6 feet.
Imagine 30 min video about Calisthenics, that doesn't mention vest almost at all (weighted vest).
Beside saying that you split calisthenics the same way you split the routine the gym routine - almost all advice here is useless.
Forgot to mention that cali is fun in groups/pairs, and easier to push yourself and others compared to the gym.
Yeah i get plenty of vitamin D while working out outside at 1-4.. P.M.

so basically as guy who only trains calisthenics but is also lazy and slowly getting fatter and fatter, i can claim my slow descend into obesity as progressive overload for my training 😁
It isn't hard, people are just mentally and even physically weaker these days than they were 30 or 40 years ago
These pregnant women in this video are awesomely fit
Dogs do plank all day!
Am 35 years old advance gym guy and I realy love the calisthenics but the commitment and time it's too late for me
You're 35, it's not to late for anything. 😂 Just start calisthenics with your lifting and if you keep consistent you will grow in calisthenics. There are old, ripped dudes on here 50 year old + that are doing calisthenics and in great shape.

Half the reason I like calisthenics is pushups. The other half is that I want to get better at bouldering and learn new skills.
Calisthenics does not need equipment. Well, maybe you need a wall to learn a handstand and a pullup bar, but walls are not rare, and you can still do rows in about any park.
You can still increase the difficulty of things like pushups.
Your ignoring pushup types like diamon pushups, wall assisted handstand pushups on both sides, military pushups, wide pushups, pike pushups, freestanding handstand pushups, more pushups, tuck/all the other types of planch/planch pushups, 90° pushups.
More different types of exercises exist that are considered calisthenics than the amount of grams whatever the current strongest man on earth can lift. There are so many ways to increase difficulty. All of those probably have at least a few ways to almost isolate any muscle
I was writing that as I was watching, so that's why I kept drifting to other points the entire time.
Bouldering.. you mean like Free Climbing? I used to do that.
