This Sucks (And Other Coping Mechanisms)

  • We have a special guest this week - my hubby Dan! I am still working on editing the footage from the surgery, so we filmed this last week.
Dan & I wanted to say outloud that sometimes this situation sucks. Now, don't get us wrong - of course (OF COURSE!) we love and adore Ava and wouldn't trade her for the world, but if we are completely honest, sometimes this situation does suck. It sucks when you have to watch your little one have surgery. It sucks when your little one is struggling to breathe. It sucks when you can't spend the first few weeks at home with your newborn because you have to constantly go to doctor appointments (or in some cases are still in the hospital).
Now we are aware that Ava has a more mild to moderate case of Pierre Robin, and things could always be worse. And while we are grateful that they are not, this experience has still been more difficult than we imagined. To the parents that endured more - I continue to be amazed by your strength and resilience and courage.
That being said, I think one of the first ways to cope with a bad situation is by acknowledging that it sucks so you can move past it. Here are some other coping mechanisms we have found helpful.
PS. Do you have another coping strategy that works for you? Comment below - we'd love to hear it! :)

I totally am with you on trying to do something you can control as a coping mechanism-like getting your nails done. Before the due date for both JR and Max, I got a pedicure and manicure. Makes you feel better having some part of yourself or day on your terms.

You guys are amazing. You are so brave and strong. I hope Ava, is continuing to recover well. We all cope with things differently and never really know what life will throw at us. When Ava is old enough to look back on these videos, she will be so proud of you both xx
