Like slagtekst I had never heard this performance. You could have heard a pin drop in that venerable jazz venue. But edify us as to your take on "a few slight mistakes." He's a guitar player not a machine after all. Reference the lines and measures. At least point out the passages you believe he muffs. I've studied this piece as a listener for thirty years and I agree, this is the purest live rendition I have ever listened to. The third measure of the second chorus is a particularly challenging passage with the barre chord at the 9th fret. I believe in the transcription for guitar there is a beat there where a bass note must be impossible to insert because it is omitted by every player in every arrangement of any solo rendition, no matter the key. John Williams always plays this passage with a fluidity that eludes all the wonderful players I've listened to play this song. At the third measure of the final chorus one can, if one nitpicks, hear a slight... even misstep would be to strong a criticism, for there isn't more than a quarter beat at the most, of tentativeness in the passage, to my ear. I do rather like the way he displaces some melody notes against the meter of the accompanying arpeggios. The Hopi, renowned for centuries for their weaving, purposely "drop a stitch" in every rug. Hence, they demonstrate humility in their creations and eschew human pretense of perfection.

I've never seen this version before. Its the purest I have seen, being without strings. Williams makes a few slight mistakes, but his skills, timing and phrasing are exceptional, as always. He has no equal on classical guitar.

@@Kekuahiwi Well, these are just petty issues, like at 0.48 where the tone is cut short just slightly. I thought he forgot an open b-note at 1.35 but that's not the case. Like you say, because it's not a perfect rendition, as he usually displays, this one is the more moving.

No, he doesn't miss the B note where you say he does.
Maybe you got the time stamp mixed up and you meant 1:48 where he plays a B bass note (mistakenly, if going by his own transcription) instead of an F# bass note.
