For the PS2 , generally the colored discs are CDs , silver discs are DVDs . It was very common for the drives to stop reading DVDs while working fine for CD games .
@@Rebnobfulroar Not mine . It played the early CD games fine . Then when DVD games started coming out more frequently it started getting disc read errors on DVD games and finally stopped reading any DVDs at all . I'd heard that Sony would fix that problem free so I called Sony Service and they told me to send it in and they did fix it free of charge . Unfortunately , when I got it back it would no longer play CD games I didn't even notice for a while because I had a stack of DVD games that I hadn't been able to play so I was just playing those .
Yeah like other guy said. Opposite. Its easier to read a dvd. Who the heck ever heard of a ps2 playing only ps1 games and cd ps2 games? Lol never heard of that one
For the Japanese n64, ebay has 3d printed cartridge trays you can use so you can play both u.s. and Japanese games so you don't have to clip out the one the console came with, just swap them out.
I think the seller saying it was region free was just mentioning that a japanese n64 is compatible with US/Canada games because they are both NTSC not that the system was modded to be region free. You could also swap the backs of the cartridges and it would be region free that way
Why didn't you show the DDR mat? That is actually a GameStop brand one that has a multi-adapter for all the systems. It's a unique piece of nostalgia, I wanted to see it lol. Also that's the PS1 control glove
The only region modding that goes into N64 consoles is the plastic piece inside the console that you can replace, or cut out the tabs that block the cart from going in. There is no technical modification. I cut the plastic tabs out of mine and it can play Japanese or US games.
Japanese n64s ARE compatible with US NTSC games, the only thing preventing you from doing it is the physical lock on the cartridges, you slap a region free tray in there and you can play anything., alternatively you could have swapped the back part of the shell of the japanese game onto the pikachu cart and it would have worked.
yeah but it's like selling a piece of bread and calling it toast. Sure, it can be toast if you have a toaster and toast it yourself, but can you really sell a piece of bread as toast if it hasn't already been toasted? Should you really sell an N64 as "region free, plays NA and Japanese games" when it hasn't actually been modded to do that yet?
i would say its fair to call a JPN N64 region free since the only thing preventing the game from being played is the slot unlike with a PAL system also a universal cartridge adapter is really cheap@@jrob0021
CD and DVD lasers are different wavelengths and built into the same package (CD is red so you can see eye death, DVD isn't visible with the naked eye, so cannot see eye death). One can go bad and the other continues to work. A lens clean and a bit of a potentiometer turn may help with a lower resistance and more power, but it's only temporary all things considered.
The PS2 laser is partially dead because it's strong enough to read PS2 blue discs ( normal CDs) but can't read silver discs ( DVDs) If you change the laser it should work hopefully

That glove-style controller you have is called the Video Game Control Glove, manufactured by a company called RealityQuest. It was designed for the PS1 before analog controllers were a thing, so it's likely the PS2 doesn't recognize it as a valid controller. Test it out with a North American PS1 console before you recycle/junk it, as they can fetch a few dollars on the second-hand market. :)

Always wanted a gold N64. The US systems can be made to play all cartridges by reaching into the cartridge port and snapping off the little plastic 'region lock' pegs that those grooves fit over if I remember correctly. I don't know if the Japanese system can be caveman-modded in this way or if someone would even want to bother what with N64 SD carts being relatively inexpensive and certain consoles being rare enough to leave unaltered. The N64 SD cartridge I found also plays NES roms on the system making it the ULTIMATE NINTENDO in my humble opinion.
