In pvp content going over 33k resistance is good, because of debuffs, people lower your resistance and they have penetration. So if the can lower your resistance 5k and they have 10k pen, your 33k is brought down to 18k, so thats the math I use if I try to make a pvp tank
Great video, been playing as a dps since launch but been loving my new warden tank. These vids are helping me understand parts of the game I barely even knew existed. Keep up the good work man
This is incredibly useful. These sort of videos which go into how game calculates different things is super useful. How do other mitigation like Minor Aegis factor into the dmg calculation?
Amazing video, thanx! Could you please elaborate how/when does the additional damage reduction apply? Aegis, protection, CPs, or abilities like deaden pain of Necromancer. Seems the later in equation these reductions apply, the less benefit would they provide. Unless they all stack to the maximum of 90%...
Great video as always. I like to run the master sword and board but it brings me waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over 33k but the armor buff only lasts 4 seconds. Should I take that into account and drop my resistances accordingly?
I'm not sure if you reply to comments but if you do I had a question: How does block mitigation work? I'm viewing my "Block Mitigation" in Advanced Stats, but some things like Defensive Stance don't change that stat at all, and other passives (Like Sacred Ground, and Sword & Board) only increase it by 50% of what they should be doing. What's going on? Thanks. Edit: Nevermind. I did some more testing on Alits in Vvardenfell and found Defensive Stance definitely is providing Block Mitigation, it just doesn't show up under Advanced Stats. I don't know why all the advertised bonuses only contribute 50% of what they claim to, but oh well. Must be some kind of background calculation I don't know about.
So I'm trying to learn tanking right now. I play a Sorc Tank for the brain dead easy sustain and completely buffed up I've got 31k Resistence and 90% mitigation after popping Bound Aegis as well. Beyond just gaining experience with the Craglorn Trials on Vet and grouping adds more effectively do you have any tips or tricks?
Hey, great video. Had no idea damaged was reduced by block mitigation THEN resistances. Does minor protection get taken off after resistances or before?
minor protection is another percentage reduction so it doesnt matter what order you'd get it you wouldn't be immune to damage, it would just be a bigger gain if its before. That said I think you're right with number of minor or major buffs there are it would make sense for them to be taken into account last.
So I don't know if anyone will read this and I realize this is a old video. I can't get past 77 percent block mitigation. I added the passive that gives you 20 percent but you are 16 percent slower. I went from 67-77 interesting enough I took defense stance off and my block mitigation number didn't change with passive or not is tool tip bugged or is 77 the new cap and Def stance may be bugged?
🔥 Very good video 🔥 I've been trying to explain this to people but no seems to grasp the math. Even TH-camr on here I've seen completely miss how to understand resistance. To me it's what separates good tanks from cookie cutter noob tanks.
see, this TH-camr proved what I was tell you yesterday FalkOwnedYou Told you my math wasn't wrong... He even used the same math example I used starting at 100k damage off a heavy attack😁 I take my math serious lol
I mean without class skills... Just sword and board plus CP.. Apparently some classes have extra block mitigation, but that won't help the rest of us running a class without those.
It's because he's a DK. The Iron Skin passive gives 10% damage mitigation, which shows as an extra 5% block mitigation on the advanced stats screen. Every other class is 70% block mitigation.
I tank with a sorc tank, WITH 😱18k hp😱 I can do depths of malatar on vet no problem for example. How? Understanding resistance... Max health is for noobs, real tanks tank with low health for a challenge 😆, its more fun and makes direct damage hits very soft. My resistance sit at 96% damage mitigation buffed. So getting hit for 100k, I only take 4k damage. The only problem is people believing you so you don't get kicked as soon as you enter a dungeon with the lowest health 😂 , from my experience finding people who understand resistance is close 0% lol, it's not widely known.
@@Monster3Games I've been kick seconds in when people see my health in random groups. Unfortunately not everyone is a patient as you, or willing to at least see how the first boss goes🙃
Videos like this is why I keep coming back

What do you think about graze of Sithis?
For a PvE Tank it looks absolutely awful. 0 Block mitigation...
It's for werewolfs in PvP...

@@kriptoscorner1688 Sturdy only reduces cost., it does nothing for mitigation.
33k is a waste. Holding block > 33k. Il take 28 k resistances and 5 pieces sturdy all day.
