Every minute these guys spend out on the ocean means more danger for them. Bill could’ve gotten in trouble on the way back in town. Sleepy wheel watch guy. Ocean debris tears open his hull, sinks the ship. Jake saved him from having to spend more time doing the deadliest job in the world, then spent time quality time with his family in Alaska. Seems like a selfless man to me.
