There are three items in Borgin's shop that will be important later in HBP. 1. The cursed necklace. Hermione saw it again in the 6th book. Draco tried to send the necklace to Dumbledore, but cursed Katie Bell instead. 2. The Vanishing Cabinet. Harry was hiding inside it, but didn't close the door. It is definitely the Cabinet, because its pair in Hogwarts will be mentioned later in this book. It's gonna be broken, and that's why Draco will have to fix it four years later. 3. The Hand of Glory. That withered hand that grabbed Harry - Draco will use it to light the way to Death Eaters after letting them inside the school.
I think the cabinet is the vanishing cabinet from book 5 and 6. In the books, Harry is careful to keep the door ajar to see what's going on, so no vanishing
@@reeceemms1643 It was planned. In Chamber of Secrets chapter 8, The Deathday Party, we get the first mention of the vanishing cabinet at Hogwarts. Harry was in Filch's office being disciplined for trailing mud into the school, when Nick saves him by persuading Peeves to knock over and break the cabinet on the floor above. Filch told Mrs. Norris "That vanishing cabinet was extremely valuable". It's not a coincidence that both of the paired cabinets were first mentioned in the same book.
Fun thought it would have been to see Arthur Weasley having a scrap with Lucius (and very much in keeping with the "rough lads" portrayal of James Potter's school year) I do love Mark Williams' delivery as he presents himself as the bigger man in that confrontation
The scene in the book where Arthur and Lucius throw down, sort of mirrors how Harry and Draco's "duel" was described to Harry by Ron in Philosophers (Sorcerer's) Stone
An interesting change in the movie is that Lucius says he will see Arthur at work, but they don’t work together in the book. Lucius is a school governor, but he doesn’t work for the Ministry of Magic. Also, I think that since the movies were geared towards kids, they removed most of the fist fights from the entire series to discourage trying to solve problems that way!
This movie made me feel like they were going to set up a running gag of Hermione repairing Harry's glasses in every film, but then they just stopped doing it.
While for the most part I can agree with your statements, but you are incorrect about magic on the train. It is allowed, the end of book 2 explicitly mentions them enjoying their last hours they're allowed to use magic on the train "Too soon it was time for the journey home on the Hogwarts Express. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred, George and Ginny got a compartment to themselves. They made the most of the last few hours in which they were allowed to do magic before the Holidays." And in later books a LOT of magic happens on the train, from Malfoy and his crew getting hit with tons of spells from the DA members, to Ginny's hex that got Slughorns' attention, and much, much more. Furthermore the trace doesn't tell the Ministry who performed the spell, this is the entire reason for the plotline with Harry's near expulsion due to Dobby. The Ministry becomes aware that magic was performed in the presence of an underage witch/wizard, but not who performed the magic, since Harry was known to be the only wizard in the general area they then assume it was him, in a place like Diagon Ally that would be going off all the time, there's a lot of magic going on all over the place there, so if a student was using magic there and it wasn't actually seen by others, the Ministry would not be any the wiser. This goes on to be a part of the overarching plotlines of the inequalities of students with magic families compared to muggleborns, as for example the Weasleys are able to do magic at home without any issues because the Ministry wouldn't be able to tell whether it was the kids or the parents who performed it, and to checkup on the family every time a spell was used would be a massive waste of time.
They are allowed to do magic on the train. The end of this book mentions them using the last bit of their time being allowed to use magic, Hermione would have certainly gotten in trouble for doing magic in diagon alley. There are many instances where magic is used on the train rides: Hermione repairing a glass door, Draco and gang getting jinxed to oblivion on 2 separate occasions and Draco using petrificus totalis on Harry.
Lockhart's requirement for his students to purchase his books for class strongly reminds me of one of my uni profs - ALL his books were required reading. 😂
Yes, harry hide in the same cabinet, it was good that he didn’t closed it completely. The cabinet at Hogwarts was not broken yet so if he did he had got to Hogwarts ”a bit” faster than he planned 😅 And a lot more confused. But some of the teachers lives at the castle full time so an equal confused professor had probably helped him back to (I base that on the fact that Trelawney and Hagrid does that, but of course Hagrid was not at home during that day. But I find it very unlikely that they are the only two who lives there full time).
Hermione wouldn't have been caught using magic in a place full of wizards like Diagon Alley. The trace only shows that a spell has been cast in the vicinity. It doesn't identify who cast it.
The Weasley’s practically ignoring Harry plays into chaotic large family tropes, where there are so many kids that no one is missed when they go missing. You already get a disorganized feeling from the burrow, which is littered with magical stuff strange to Harry; then add a family of seven-which, yeah, isn’t that big, but way more people than Harry’s used to as an only child-and you get one big…whirlwind of…something
The big reason is they wanted to keep the movies more family friendly. They actually remove a few other physical fights from the movies for this same reason.
One element that you omitted that was key to understanding why Lucius Malfoy dropped Tom Riddle's diary in Ginny Weasley's cauldron is that the "Muggle Protection Act that is causing the Malfoys so many issues is authored by and being pushed by Arthur Weasley. Malfoy, not knowing what the Diary actually is, does know that it is from Voldemort and he wants to embarrass Arthur Weasley - hence his dumping the diary on Ginny...
IF you want to make the argument for the kids using magic, we know that the ministry can't tell exactly who cast the spell, only the location where the spell was cast. So, using magic in Diagon Alley or the school train would make it impossible for the Ministry to know who is casting magic. Making enforcement impossible.

Yeah that scene had some serious setup for a later payoff.

At the time of the book release I don't think it was, it depends on how much was planned.

I wish we could have seen Arthur throw hands in the movie ❤️

Out of all the characters I
love gilderoy lockhart as his character was so outrageous, he was almost a caricature of myself.
theres two deleted scenes where we meet Mr Borgin, infact one of the deleted scenes was the proper introduction of lucius which followed the book.

In the extended version, we see borgin and burkes scene though slightly shortened.
I was going to comment that. From what I remember, it's pretty much what happens in the book

Wow, i just finished my hp marathon and now this 🎁👌

1:54 got jumpscared by myself 😂💀
12:23 This scene was filmed but it was cut from the theatrical version.
It is the wanishing cabinet Draco uses in book 6.
I came for the Lord of the Rings. Stayed for the Harry Potter. Subscribed!

I completely agree
It would have served mister Malfoy right to get the snobbery punched out of him!!
