I quoted Troy's statement in my diary, "Religion doesn't have a free pass to harm kids." Looking forward to Troy's channel. Tim and Troy share a dedication to children's well being, and this conversation about childhood religious trauma is foundational to appreciating the mind control that permeates our cultures. Think monstrous thoughts, and you become a monster, as Tim likes to say. Appreciate how Tim uses his platform to call out spanking as abuse. I would like to see some 10 commandments that say to honor our children, honor the Earth, honor the animals, encourage the disheartened. Thanks for caring guys.

The flannel graph board! I vividly remember the Abraham, Isaac and altar! Traumatised aged 5 by my otherwise lovely Mum/Sunday School teacher.

One of your best interviews, and I’m only half way through.

This really resonated with me. It's difficult to see the depth of the trauma while one is in the faith but looking at it now as someone who's not into any religion anymore, the trauma runs deep, maybe deeper than we expect or willing to admit. Great conversation with Troy. Thanks so much for bringing this out, Tim

26:40 "grown men said stupid shit..." That's it in a nutshell. Yep. Mind blowing.

I can so relate to this video, especially the discussion about puberty and adolescence. I grew up in a southern Baptist household and was “saved” at age 14 when I came to the abrupt and terrifying conclusion that I hadn’t been saved “correctly”. Being fully in the throes of puberty at the time, I began to have mood swings and was convinced that when I suddenly felt sad and anxious out of nowhere, it was God telling me that I, once again, didn’t do something exactly right during my salvation experience. Also, I too, struggled with “lustful” thoughts, which I now know are completely normal for an adolescent boy. I remember, after giving in to temptation in the manner that young boys often do, I was so riddled with guilt afterward that I actually punched myself in the face repeatedly in remorse and disgust with myself. This all seems so insane and horribly sad to me now..

Very good conversation. Troy is doing great work by educating people on religious trauma, and I highly respect him for that. My story is quite different to most in that I came to Christianity later in life. It was childhood trauma (non religious) that led to me being converted through someone else. As you can imagine, it only made things ten times worse! I wish I'd never met that person now and been introduced to Christianity and the Bible God. I'm in a worse state now than I was before. It really screws up your mind. I can easily imagine the damage done to those who were indoctrinated at a young age, and my heart goes out to you all. I am angry on your behalf.

Was a Christian for over 50 years until I started reading Greek, Sumerian and Egyptian mythology. The Bible literally copied it and watching Christian’s racism and bigotry and what’s also in the bible that Christian schools and pastors or priests won’t tell you or to read it that was extremely evil was enough of me being a Christian
