    Nice little video that mate. So many parables to take into consideration here too. surface, tyres, downforce all play a part to name but a few.

      Yeah for sure mate. Which is why I said about the shocking results. I feel if the road was 100% perfect that the AK-787 would still struggle with wheel spin and traction. The point being that having the high speed gearing is the best of both worlds. Thanks for watching mate. Hoping you are keeping well?

    Maybe you could do with getting one of Raz Shifrin's launch control devices (perfect pass) or a controller that allows adjustment of the throttle profile. Enables a controlled launch.

      Hiya. Well the whole point was to see standard vs high speed gearing. Adding something like that would defeat the point. But thanks so much for the info. 😊👍🏼

    Well, to be fair to AK917, you must add a gyro ;)
    Also, I suppose you kept a max speed setup. Add toe-in in the rear and toe out in the front. This will help ;)

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was the AK-917 that had the gyro. The AK-787 did not. But I did say we would try in the future with the gyro fitted. Also thanks for the info. I'll do some testing! 😊👍🏼👌👌👌

    Hi John great video!
    My thinking would be if you were say running a car around a track constantly moving the lower gearing maybe beneficial when on and off the throttle for quicker bursts of acceleration without losing too much traction because your already moving.
    However your video proves that it’s probably just better and more user friendly for normal use to use the higher speed pinion.

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes without doubt your theory would be correct on a smaller track. However you run the risk of loosing traction and therefore control. Any long straights on the track and the higher gearing is better. But for sure something for everyone to think about! 😊👍🏼 Have an awesome day!

    Insert the second line of ESC into the third channel! Open the third channel and activate the "electronic turbocharging" function! Will increase acceleration!

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that. Again the point was that the car was standard. And having more acceleration in this situation would have made both cars slower. Thanks for the info though. Gonna have fun with that! 😊😁👍🏼

    Can't figure out why they don't put the receiver with gyro on their cars. It's about $3.00US more than the non gyro version. I still haven't found a good enough bit of road to get my AK-917 much over 60mph.(I live a fair way from any major civilization). It is a great car though. Has taken a few big tumbles with no breakages so far. Keep up the good work. Your videos are always Interesting.

      I have to agree with you. For those not wanting it, they can just turn it down to 0%. Sorted. Let's hope they add it in the future. And the AK-917 for sure is an awesome car. Hopefully you will get it over 60 mph. You will love it! 😊😁

    Hi John I think you are using the wrong place, i ve been there too much dust on the ground from the nearby 4x4 offroad track so you wont have any grip there for sure, try going in the nearby stadium car park there will be less dust for sure..

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello mate. Yes to be honest I really doesn't matter where we would go. I feel the test would result in the same outcome as its something I have thought about since owning the AK-917. However your point is valid and I will find another area for traction and see if the results are the same. I feel the factory gearing will still result in wheel spin. But when I do the new test, I for sure will need a gyro on both. 😂😂👍🏼 Have a great day. Stay safe. 😊😊

    Don't focus too much on just the time, look at your acceleration g force and the graph. It was fun watching you struggle, sorry man. Hey, watched the entire video. You are right about grip. Simply try a 2s or 3s lipo and run them again, you will have an easier time to get them lauch fast. You still manage a 1.25g in some runs which is impressive

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah thanks mate. For sure time isn't the only consideration, however due to traction being broken, it meant g-forces were all over the place. The reason I did 4s is that I guarantee had I done 2 or 3s someone would have said 4s is best. Happens every time. I do however agree that a 2s run on a cleaner area with gyros on both would be fun to see. Maybe with the 2s the higher gearing would then suffer with cogging? Anyway, so many variables to test in something like this. All I know personally however is that if I owned either of these cars. I would either install highest hearing or something close to that straight away.
      And yeah 1.25g on that sandy slippery surface is a real surprise. 😂😂👌
      Wishing you an amazing day today! Stay safe. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Nice one. Thanks for sharing. I noticed that your using a RC4GS radio and utilize the gyro function. It seems to help some but I normally crash either way. 🦾

    • @JohnRobinsonRC
      @JohnRobinsonRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes for sure it helps with acceleration and keeping it straight. At top speed the AK-917 suffers from instability which is why I added small wings at the front which helped a lot to stop me crashing. 😂😂
      The new AK-787 seems much more stable at top speed which is nice to see. 😊👌
