Burgruine Falkenstein and a bonus find!!

A castle on top of an ancient volcano, Burg Falkenstein was first mentioned in 1135. This castle traded hands numerous times until it was destroyed by French troops in 1547. During the Wildfangkampf of 1664-1666 the final destruction of the castle may have happened.
In the 1970s and 1980s, reconstruction of the castle took place bringing it to its current state.
Today, Burgruine Falkenstein is located approximately 30 min from downtown Kaiserslautern. Beautiful area full of trails and other castle ruins, it is a great area to see something new and kill an afternoon.
