The Windsurfer - A West Side Story Raw and Unfiltered

- Once in a blue moon there are conditions that line up to make this sacred windsurfing spot on the west side of the island of Maui an absolutely epic experience. After not having sailed in over three years I found myself standing back on this beach looking out at mast high plus waves rolling through and I knew it was going to be scary and thrilling all at once. Luckily my friend Patrick also took his GoPro out and was able to capture some of the bigger set waves that I did not ride.

You haven’t sailed till you have to water start in the breakers. Heart rate at 275 bpm… this was great thanks, haven’t windsurfed in a long time - since my ex sold all my gear. This video captures the feeling of it so well.

Wow, I just discovered this channel and subscribed immediately. I've sailed a bunch at Kanaha and one day at Hookipa and these videos let me relive those great sessions! I can put myself right there. Including the terror of having no wind and not knowing if you're going to make it out over the next one. (and the relief when you do)

Thank you. I am using the GoPro Hero10. I haven't tried the harness mounted POV. I tend towards a setup that is the least obtrusive for wave sailing.

What's your setup on the gopro when it comes to the audio? Huge difference between the quality from your videos and Patrick's
Thank you! I am using a foam cover over the GoPro called a "wind slayer" which makes a huge difference for the audio.

I am using the Hero 10. I mount the camera so that it sits just above my forehead with one of GoPro’s elbow mounting arms. I am super tall (6’5”) so I aim to get the camera as low as possible.

Usually it's first on the wave but there is no arguing with a GOAT🐐 if it takes your wave.

Would be way better if you actually hit the lip.
I agree. But on this day I did not have the confidence to charge the lip. This was my first day back in big waves after not having sailed in three years.
