      I like how it's the 80s and so Steve probably didn't know any gay people and probably only heard bad things said about gay people. But when Robin came out to him, he never wavered on how much he trusts and respects her. He knows who she is and didn't question that at all.

      I'm horrified of coming out to my parents. I mentioned the word Bi to my friends, and my Mom came in my room, saying shit like 'are you one of them? You better not be' or something along those lines. I had to say that I was just joking and she just laughed and walked out. From that day, I only told my friends, and at least they don't really care, and they support me. One day I will come out to my parents, but it defo won't to well.

    This video is an example of why people should reserve judgment before calling out a lack of representation. Dude saw one scene from Heartstopper and implied it lacked representation…which couldn’t be further from the truth. If you’re gonna judge, at least be semi-informed.

      Seriously.
      Omg the leads are 2 white boys. No representation! Right that's ignore the:
      Interracial lesbian couple where the black girl is seen as the ideal girl that boys want to get with (all the rugby lads call her fit and hot and shit)
      The eventual Interracial straight couple where one is a Trans gender black girl, the other is a Chinese boy
      Aro/Ace character
      Bisexuality character...
      This is not even included the additional stuff that's still to come... like males dealing with EDs
      Plus size middle eastern girl
      Gender fluid character (may bot happen since Aled is not in the show)...
      No representation at all

    4:36 the “holy shit” reaction from Steve was because it was seen as a bigger deal in the 80s (when the show is set) for anyone wondering. But it’s really good because Steve just takes it in, then instead of asking questions that he no doubt has or making it about him or whatever, he makes a joke because he knows that making Robin feel comfortable and accepted is more important right now.

    The thing I think people forget about Robin's coming out is that it was the '80s. It was a much less accepting time and the middle of the AIDS crisis. Coming out was actually dangerous. There's a reason Robin says beforehand that if Steve really knew her he wouldn't like her at all. It makes Steve's acceptance all the more powerful.

      @giuliapicchiotti ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I know my opinion may be biased but one of my favorite coming out scenes of all time was in Stranger Things. Steve didn't judge Robin because she liked girls, he judged her for her type (without belittling her. They made it a joke and it was really sweet). That's what a true friendship looks like. I'm really glad that the content being produced nowadays is like this. People need to be able to see someone on TV like them. Whether it be their race, their sexuality, their looks, etc. people should be able to relate to characters on TV and that's exactly what this is.

The first words out of his mouth was to not to bring any guys home for at least a week so he could process the idea. I gave him two. I brought Trever home, and we all drank, ate pizza, listened to music, and proved our ineptitude at Nintendo for a few hours. No cringe, whatsoever... apart from the Nintendo...
    My mother... was silent. She gave a 'yeah, I get it' sort of reaction, and suggested I go to church with her... Now, it's sort of an understood fact, that never gets brought up... ever.
