Buckle up guys! This series is VERY GEN Z (it's actually one of the few shows that represents this generation very well) But it's also super queer. The whole season builds up to a finale, when we finally find out what happened at the festival... Let's also give a huge shotout for the autistic rep in Quinni, who is also played by actress that has autism😊 Can't wait for the next episode!!!
To further explain the "C Word" in Australia. We use it like a normal word, and its basically in our vocab- especially when you're a "youth of today", and actually if you call someone "mate" with the intent of pissing them off, people get offended more than if u used the "C Word" in the intent of pissing them off. So basically, it's been flipped 😅
I was cracking up at you two over them using the C Word. I lived in Sydney n calling your mates “ bunch of sick cun7s “ is a compliment. You guys are gonna love this series ❤❤❤
While over 99% of schools in Australia DO have uniforms there are some that don’t. This show is set in Sydney but near where I live in Brisbane there is a very large state high school that doesn’t have a uniform and a private boys schools with a uniform similar to the boys in the convertible (complete with straw hats). Also I think the boys call them sluts because private boys schools are known for perpetuating toxic masculinity and raping girls and getting away with it. Also Centrelink is where you go to get welfare payments so the rich boys are calling them poor.
Google Chanel Contos- she’s an all-girls’ school alumnus who started a consent education campaign after opening her inbox on instagram to ask other students from all girls schools about their bad experiences with guys from all boys schools. Single sex schools (mostly private) are still common around state capital centres and there’s been a lot of discussion about their outdatedness re. class, gender, sexuality and religion.
What? Do schools like this really exist in the us or australia or in europe? I mean are students really like this? (Eng is not my first language sorry and in my country people don’t really have sxx before marriage so its interesting to me that this show is the reality of some countries) Is this really how it is?
OMG NO WAY! I just know you guys are going to LOVE this show! There’s some slang here and there that may be confusing but us Aussies will help you with that. This is certainly gonna be a *journey* 💜
“i worry about you sometimes” god i’m just halfway through the video and i’m on the floor btw i love this show bc what you see is never what you think it’s going to be next, so it’s very entertaining!
The reason why I love this show so much is for the Gen Z Representation. If someone were to ask me to name a show that accurately represents Gen Z as a generation, it is definitely Heartbreak High!! I love this show, it is so relatable!
heartbreak high is one of the few series since skam 2016, that has really got my attention because of hoe genuine it feels. always a goos time to rewatch this show, and if its with your company its even better
I feel like this question might come up in the next few eps but the word “eshay” is kind of like the Australian equivalent of calling someone a chav For a bit of context, its frequently used to describe the character Cash
Australian here! I love that the immediate comparison for Australian high school is Ja’mie because actually with this show it isn’t too far off, just a bit more extreme hahaha. The story is an absolute ride and I would be surprised if you could fully predict what’s coming or how some of the plots and people connect. Can’t wait for the next reactions to the show!
Josh seeing the mess in the room and reacting to it being a cesspit is my LOVE moment! That man is husband material. Please, give me a man who knows how to tidy up!
I watched this show last year not knowing it was Australian and didn't notice the accent at all (my first language is Spanish) But now that I've watched it with you, your accents have highlighted each other. I think it's crazy
As an Aussie I can assure you that the C-bomb is 100% used as a term of endearment, and as a derogatory insult…it’s all in the annunciation 🤣😅. Definitely stick with this series it’s really hilarious, very chaotic like Gossip Girl and sex Ed had a child…that they immediately sent off to an Australian public school. Love you guys always brilliant to watch along with you two lords! X
Live this show! Im so glad you're watching it. Wot C*#t is probably one of my favourite lines in a tv show ever. The C word doesn't have the same power in many circles in Australia
as an australian this is the more accurate peice of media ive ever watched. hits the nail on the head of australia and gen z schools it is perfect. YEAH ESHAY
I’m uncertain why, but I was too afraid to watch this by myself. Not afraid as in “AHH SCARY!!” but afraid as in “Ooh I don’t know if this will be worth watching.” But I just binged your Heartstopper reactions in the last two evenings after work and I think it’s safe to say that you two are definitely one of my favorite queer reaction channels!! So I hide behind you guys and catch snippets of the show 😅
I'm so excited to see how you guys digest all the is Heartbreak High!! There is a consensus about a particular subject matter that I hope at least one of you is like, no, stop saying that now!!
aww i adore this show so much and no one ever really reacts to it so this video made my day! it get sooo good as the episodes progress and we find out more and more. also yay autism rep!!!
Oh wow I jumped on the channel to see what you were going to react to next after HS, and DID NOT EXPECT THIS! Have suggested it at least three times, being the annoying person that I am 😂 So thrilled you’re going to react to this. It’s a bit of a ride with some bizarre Aussie slang but as a high school teacher here it was both parts scarily accurate and also terrifying. Your confusion in the first five minutes is WORTH IT ALONE. Can’t wait! Love ya 🌈 Ps. To continue the aust theme, holding the man next? ;)
A suggestion for a movie also from Australia it's called Holding the Man based on the book of the same name. It's a true story about two teenagers first times experiencing love. Beautiful acting and a actor you might know who's in it if you are into Australia soaps Guy Pearce.
When I started the show I didn't expect much 'cause most of teen dramas are a bit too much for me, instead I ended up really enjoying it. Some character are now my favourite (Darren, Quinn and Cash have all my heart), others I hate SO MUCH (yes, Sasha and Harper, I'm talking about you) but I think it's proof of how good the show and the topics are
soo excited for this!! I literally watched this show like two weeks ago, love your guys reactions! Would love love love to see you guys watch the Netflix series Feel Good, its my fave show Xxx
Hey -- had commented on one of your other videos about this but wanted to note it because it just came up in the ad space at the beginning of this video, too: you guys have anti-trans/anti-LGBTQ+ ads coming up in some of your videos. You might want to recheck your parameters for your ads (what sites are to be excluded, etc.).
I love this show. As a Gen Z, it's so authentic to how we act and behave. Idk about Australian culture (I'm Canadian) but they nailed the Gen Z culture of it all. Love love love Amerie, Darren and Quinni, they are my fave trio
Malakai (the new kid) and Missy (Sasha’s friend and ex) are both Aboriginal/First Nations/indigenous. So they are considered black (or blak) in Australia. In other contexts (ahem, UK and USA) I’ve heard people of colour go off about “light-skinned” people calling themselves black. In Australia that sentiment is considered pretty racist (because of a long messed-up history). If you’re indigenous in Australia you can call yourself black regardless of skin colour. Missy and Malakai bond over both being black later and I’ve seen other reacters get really confused.
I get very strong nostalgia from this show, even as a millennial. Memories of my tight-knit CBD high school (~25 students per year), being 16-18, living out of home, and having Sydney as a playground. FYI, the straw hat's being worn by those school boys are called boaters - the private schools they attend are some of the wankiest, sorry, wealthiest in the country; and c*nt is pretty much mate in Australia - unless your accent makes it sound like an insult, surprisingly there is a big difference in the way the word sounds! I have Pom parents, so I avoid saying it 😅
I feel like every adult in that school should have guessed what happened to Harper right away... I mean, drastic change in appeareance and personality -- seamingly overnight, is a very textbook sign (especially for children & teenager)... 😔 There are other more subtle signs of course but this one is pretty hard to miss, I was pissed that none of the teacher really understand it. I can forgive the other kids because they might not know this yet, but the adults should have recognized it immediately.
-Yeah this is how us aussies are, and we use the C word all the time. Its no big deal. This series is a kinda continuation of a series from the 80s called called Heartbreak High on the ABC. i loved the original back in the day.
Before video comment: I've been hoping you'd watch this. There are some things that are very wild to watch as a millennial... But the whole show is just so Aussie and I love it. We'll prob have to help you with some slang though lol.
I'm not sure I'd actually enjoy watching this but I'm tempted to just for Rachel House (the...headmistress? whoever she's meant to be). Love her. She works with Taika Waititi a lot but I love seeing her pop up in other stuff.
Yessssss I need more reactions to this show, it’s so good whdjjfjfjf This show is so good, it’s very GenZ but how it’s supposed to be and not that cringe adults try to write GenZ lol
I have loved the four Netflix teen school series, and they are all very different. Sex education had a comedic element to it. Heatstoppers was more of the romantic. Both classical British concepts. Young Royals, was more a drama series (absolutely loved it) and then to round it out from Australia, Heart Break High, which is really a teen drama comedy, something that Australia has been known for. In a sense the language is relatively normal for Australia these days for different groups. I think the great thing of HBH it broadened out from the classic straight v gay v bi, and introduced to all the concept such as non-gender, A gender (which came later in Heartstoppers), then overlays different ethnic groups, First Nation Peope, and subcultures (where the stereotype is broken up) etc. sometimes in a playful way, sometimes in a serious way, sometimes in a sad way and somethings in who give a f*&k way. Yes, it does go a million miles an hour, but that is often the way for kids in high school. For us Aussies, I think there are one or two nuances that we get that others may not, but I think the writers have kept it pretty engaging for non-Aussies, without loosing the intrinsic nature of is place.
i feel like im a bit late to comment but your answer to 'do people just shout like this in australia' is yes. yes we do. one of the biggest things that wasn't in this show was the eshays barking at the 'alt' or 'queer' kids. like fully barking. like dogs. you cannot walk down the street. it's usually the younger eshays though, the older ones are out doing illegal shit or whatever. anyways, fun fact.
If you are OK with this show I recommend another Aussie show, Deadloch. You might have to rate it as age restricted because of language, but it s a brilliant show. It is a dark comedy with a lesbian police officer as the main character, but there are a lot of other queer people in the cast.
All I have to say about this show is that Cash is a real hero who don't wear capes !
Hope they've already watch the entire season
Buckle up guys! This series is VERY GEN Z (it's actually one of the few shows that represents this generation very well) But it's also super queer. Holy shit I'm so glad you're watching this. Best autistic and asexual rep I've seen on tv at the point in time that this came out
Without a doubt.
That point in time was like last year sjdjjddj is still to this day some of the best rep
What episode is the Ace rep? I've watched 2 episodes and have felt so uncomfortable as an Asexual 😅
@@kaseyford1490 like around 7 or 8 mainly towards the end
As an Australian seeing two Brits react to Heartbreak High is HILARIOUS!! love you guys so much :)
