HAHA Yabu is the best character in the show, expertly played. I kept feeling sorry for the guy: trapped by fate, just trying to survive and maybe gain a little something, but never seems to get a break.
I watch this whenever I need a smile. It's a great mash-up, and I actually so liked this character as an "off-the-wall" thug type of guy in contrast to the cerebral expressions of Toranaga and most of the others.
Yabushige was just the most european/western (individualist) mentality person trying to survive and enjoy the life in the world where everyone was just about duty, honor collective mentality and personal life almost no value. He was treacherous, selfish and sadistic, on the other side brave, humorous, friendly, blunt, happy and for japanese surprisingly just himself. He was giving a zero fuck and was different than other Japanese. Was trying to survive in all the chaos and unpredictability around. He ended up being extremely relatable and even though we disliked his treachery and opportunism, we all kinda understood him, he was just a average human, like most of us today.

James Clavell created one of the most multi-dimensional, fascinating characters ever in literature and film. You can hate him, admire him, laugh with him, be scared of him and feel sorry for him all in one episode. Frankie Sakai (1980) and Tadanobu Asano both played the character superbly.
Yabushige was pretty much my favorite character. Even though he was treacherous I couldn't help but like him and his ability to find humor in impending doom.
this was sooooo fun i loved his character and this was such a well-done lighthearted tribute! you're so great with clip choice/parallels and song choice!
😂 he was hands down my favorite character. I know he was supposed to be a scheming bad guy but he was just so inept at it I couldn’t help but like him!
For all the awesomeness and fun and good times crammed into ten episodes, Mr. Asano will forever have a special place in my heart for making me genuinely, sincerely ROFL in front of the television for the first time in years, and feel true understanding for the motivations of a character I ultimately despise as a person. I absolutely adore his role here, absolute mad portrayal of the "kiss my arse" style of some gentlemen in Japan (and, I imagine, elsewhere). Maybe to the point of even outshining the Great Mr. Sanada himself...? Bravo, Maestro!
When I read the book, Yabushige was my most hated but the most interesting character. In the movie Tadanobu Asano made him a bit hated but extremely charismatic. So amazing actor.. I've known him before but after this series watched a couple of his old movies❤

Tadanobu Asano personality enhanced his performance immensely Kashigi Yabushige was my favourite character in the original series as well. Although in this run I missed his Supicu speech where he called everyone cow dung and gave his sword to Blackthorn but in the new series when he wanted Anjin to second and that smile of your a cleaver SOB before his head was removed was equally enjoyable.
Kashigi "Trying not to die the whole season" Yabushige
I loved the brief compilation of Yabushige being confused by Toranaga's plans.

Amazing performance by Tadanobu Asano.

Evil is a little strong. By that definition, half of the people in that show are evil. Rather he is self serving and he knows it.
