Just wanted to add, that as someone of dual nationality. Fofana (born in France) would have with his background. It can be tough to have a sense of belonging. Not having a strong connection to your parents/grandparents home country (even though you love that nation) and not feeling connected to your birth place when your questioned / doubted to be “French” in this case even though that’s all Wesley knows. It can leave you in a grey area / emptiness. I have that with England / Jamaica often. Those who feel super attached to a nation or there’s less confusion probably don’t get it. But it’s another factor to consider why somebody would be offended/ hurt.

This is why Matisse will be one of the few TH-camrs who will be around for a long, long time. He always approaches talking points with perspective, always adds informed/educated nuance to his viewpoints, and always puts things in their proper context. Even more than that, he doesn’t say things for shock value and doesn’t get up in the drama of a serious issue like that. Keep being a man of reason.

Entitlement, many Argentinians say Enzo was only saying facts, did the players on the bus mention Griezmann who is not of a French heritage, or Theo and Lucas Hernandez who are Spanish, or the French center backs playing for Spain, or Jorginho playing for Italy when he’s Brazilian, when Deco played for Portugal, nobody cares then, it’s only a problem with the players of African descent, it’s really hypocritical, if we use the Argentinian logic, the Albiceleste would be just like the French, there would be no national team because 95% of the players of Italian ancestry

    • @guillermodangelo5856

I think you don't understand what you're talking about. All our players were born in Argentina except for Garnacho who was born in Spain. His grandparents' parents came to Argentina, because we received a lot of immigration, especially European, during the war periods. The song is not racist or xenophobic, the song refers to the fact that a large part of the Feancese players are from colonies that France still has in Africa (where it guts the African people, such as by imposing a currency that France itself gives them to stay with a tax on it). The song seeks to visualize that these players are mostly not French and that France steals football power from African teams by stealing them for their own team.

Yet none are ever called out. It's always singled out to be black European players with African ethnicity. This is why it's not xenophobic, and it's racism. If the only time it's ever an issue is when it's a black player being discussed, then it goes past being xenophobic. That same team has numerous white players not of French origin, and none of them are ever mentioned, but the black players with African origin are always called out. See what I'm getting at? The song restates what has been said by many French politicians and part of the population. So for the French players it is a bigger issue , it is very personal. Does that mean that Enzo is racist, I don't think so. Enzo displayed more a lack of maturity and understanding. I was not pleased by the song but not overly offended either; nor surprised. I saw it more as a lack of class which is common in many areas in society. The same way we understand the people offended, we should not disregard Jackson's opinion. I am Argentine and I am going to give my opinion as someone closer to the soccer culture that Enzo comes from. The main problem with the issue in my opinion is that the ways and means of experiencing soccer in Latin America and the rest of the world are very different and that generates friction and misunderstandings. In Argentina it is very common for soccer songs to be as provocative and offensive as possible in order to annoy the rival, it is something that is widely accepted and here it is taken as the soccer "folklore" of the country. Does that mean it's okay? Not necessarily, many times the lyrics of these songs are very inappropriate (as is the case) and it is perfectly understandable that someone outside of this culture feels offended. In this controversy, Enzo and those who were present with him were wrong, especially because they are the representatives of the national team and they are supposed to set an example. Now, we must also take into account the context, they had just emerged as champions, possibly high on alcohol and in the football context that I mentioned, therefore classifying a player as racist for a football song that I am sure does not reflect What he really thinks seems very disproportionate to me. On the other hand, it makes me indignant that many come to speak to us with moral superiority when many of those who criticize what happened did the same or worse things at other times. Sorry if something was not understood, I used Google Translate :)

So this is Argentine culture! It is good that people question this. History shows us that my black ancestors were systematically decimated in Argentina, unlike in any other part of the Americas. Argentina has always been the most racist country in Latin America. Check the history of the country if you don't believe me. Hence, racism has been normalised. It is high time that those who feel these are part of culture be made to understand that this can not be considered right. It is more than the Argentinian players. Just find out what happened to a high-ranking Argentinian official who condemned this and was asked to resign. Sometimes, we need to examine culture as it is not always right and just a way for masking bigotry, inequality, injustice, and our own ineptitude and lack of self and humanity.

@@anthonyalcindor4643 I agree that we have to change things as a society and it is true that we have to consider that perhaps not everything is valid in football, but what I am saying is that deep down we were never really interested in ethnicity or skin color. of people and if you say that Argentina is a racist country, I am sure that you have never visited Argentina. Historically, this country received people from all over and welcomed them when they needed it most and we never closed the door to immigrants who come to our soil for a better quality of life. We even provide them with health and public education like any citizen born in Argentina (something that only happens in this country). The song is offensive, but the way the issue is being addressed might be wrong. One thing is to raise awareness on racist chants, another thing is to take a exec-behind the counter approach to it, with fines, cancellation, shaming, or lay-offs. Controlling speech institutionally was already tried in South America and has led to massive crimes against humanity, so we might be worried about the proportionality of the remedy that might be offered. This is something to be talked in the locker room, and to be retorted by French fans in the pitch with their chants. Chanting in Argentina has a highly cultural connotation, where politically incorrect banter is accepted, but it stops there. You won't find an Argentinean player actually supporting or exerting acts of segregation, since by these chants we also fight against corruption and oppression. Moreover Argentina has also received banter in this sense: gauchos, hungryentinos, poor, drug-addicts, and so on, but we haven't raised the voice saying they amount to racism, because we don't perceive it that way. If anything, this chant is a recognition of rivalry, and the former world champions are more than worthy rivals.

@@TheTrympeten 1) The Argentinian FA would need to publicly take responsibility, implement strong policies for dealing with workplace culture (they clearly don't have a respectful workplace), where education, training and disciplinary actions are clearly defined. 2) The Argentinian FA needs to have campaigns to educate their fans and also clearly define what the discipline will be for fans who are racists in or around stadiums. 3) The Argentinian FA needs to discipline ALL the players in the bus. The discipline would include a) a public apology, in person, on camera, at a press conference, b) that all the players in the bus apologize to their club teammates, in person, c) all the players in the bus need to be banned for a minimum of 3 international and 3 club games. Very well put. I enjoyed the way this was structured to help people understand the context before addressing the actual topic. It can be so exhausting to always have to be the bigger person. As a black person when someone says some offensive and you call them out people, often, get defensive and tell those who are offended to calm down because they have said sorry and it’s in the past. But like you said why should anyone tell another person how to react to something that has offended them. The state of the Argentine squad tells you how much racism exists there and I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a “no blacks” sign over the door to the national team. I hope many people see this video and are inspired to do better when it comes to standing up against racism and other injustice they witness

Disrespectful for you to call Jackson "not the sharpest", no body should be forced to feel in a certain way. He is entitled to feel in a way that he does. He is also black too. Probably he knows that Enzo isn't really a racist bcoz he has spend a year with him. I believe it was a moment of madness, getting caught up in the euphoria of the celebration. Thats why context is important in all this.
