    Hi Ethan! I’m a Cummins man. Having said that we had a few 1850s with 354 Perkins and I think a few Massey combines as well. Anyway great motor! Miss the Hercules we had in a 2-135 and 2-155 it was awesome too.

    I bought a 1850 2 years ago that sat for 10-15 years for $1500.
    Fired right up, had to do the hydra power but found a 3 speed and put that in. Best thing that ever happened, love it. Got the 3 speed for $900.. Got me a great tractor now.

    Sorry it didn’t work out the way you hoped it would Ethan. Cummins would be nice but that combine motor would probably be the way to go in terms of dollars and cents, plus you’d have the old engine for spare parts. Either way I’m looking forward to seeing that tractor back in the fields. Thanks for taking care of that older iron because once they’re gone they’re gone forever and it’s a shame to see that happen.

    i have gotten 3 engines that where locked up unstuck there is a simple mix that will get that engine turning. ATF,acetone,diesel fuel mixed will get it free if the crank moves alittle bit that means she will turn if you can leave a breaker bar on the crankshaft with a pipe and tie some wait for the weight to drop. it should work alright

    Just from what I see down the turbo, it's had a lot of weather down the cylinders. Don't kid yourself, the head needs to come off and see how bad it is. I've rebuilt a few of these engines over the years, it should be a dry sleeve engine, as long as the bore hasn't been busted by freezing water, you can get new liners and pistons.

    • @Oliver66FarmBoy
      @Oliver66FarmBoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I tear it down far enough for pistons and sleeves it’s getting a complete major done.

    • @frankwurth5375
      @frankwurth5375 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Oliver66FarmBoy Thats why I mention removing the head and check that block is not broken in the bore. I also collect tractors and have run into many stuck engines, if enough water has filled the bore, in winter the water freezes and splits the cylinder. That issue will determine if the block is rebuildable. That's the same motor that Massey put in their 1130 tractors and Combines, So over the years We've been into a few of them. Before the Series B Cummings motor became avaliable, a bunch of these old Perkins engines ended up in pickup truck repowers! Beats the hell out of the old G M Detroit smokers some folks idolize!

    Judging from the " clean " condition that You purchased it in - My guess is that " ran when parked " was exaggerated just a bit........ I agree - the white stuff is the piston decomposing in the cylinder. Your best bet is a motor replacement. You have a good straight frame and a good cab - enough of a backbone to rebuild on. Reach out to your " network " - You have enough where finding one shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the update Ethan. Take care. Fred.

    Sorry about the bad news. I'm guessing swapping another perkins in would be the easiest and initial lower cost option. Well F' that sucks. I actually sat here at the start of bad news and thought I bet that Allis turned over, It happens I bought 2 perk engine Majors that sat outside 40 years we know off, both them moved the crank like you found on the white, they rocked and freed up after a dose of weasels finest pee, both started on batteries after a basic service !.
    I'd say as you got this for a sentimental reason as well as using it see about fixing that motor and keep it original. Pull the head and see how bad she's rusted and can that be saved. Perkins cranks are so hard you've got a job to screw one up. I did one last year had busted up wrist pin bushes get shoved through the oil system, that crank looked bad but it polished to spec yours should still be good anyway.
    The hardest part of that rebuild is pulling the sleeves and getting the new ones back in. You are smart you can do it, I've done them here quite a few times in 30 years and there is lots of jobber parts kits out there that aren't huge money . I'm pretty sure if you go MF combine to tractor with the 1135 massey the crankshaft pulleys different with splines or something between the 2, but that may be for the front pump drive you don't have on the white, so it might be ok if you don't have to swap pulleys, the drive off the pump shaft might not be there for the tach either some just have a big shaft stick out. Thanks for the video, take care

      There are a lot of them. You just don’t see them in 105s very often bc it’s rare for the Perkins to fail.

    Cummins 5.9 would be my choice. I would pull the cab and make it open station with a ROPS/sunshade. I never understood how people let their equipment get into that condition.

    I’ve been watching your videos from the beginning and I truly respect your work ethic and determination. However I am curious of how your love for Oliver started? There’s no doubt in my mind that you could have a much better crop with a John Deere 7000 planter and have an easier harvest with a 6600 or 6620 series machine with the appropriate heads. Honestly I’m just curious!

    Well I share your disappointment on your lack of success in getting it to start but that No 4 injector looked pretty grim and it sounds as though things look bad in the cylinder as well. Best wishes on your choice of decision of what you eventually decide to do about it all.

    Man I thought for sure that old girl wouldn't fight ya! I figured you'd prime the fuel system with alittle fresh go juice and hit her with a shot of Cosby sauce and she would pop right off! Oh well such is life atleast she is in good hands. Just a thought may not be a bad idea to take the head off see how bad the cylinder walls look. May be able to get away with running a hone down her throw a new slug in the bad cylinder and new rings across the others and rods and mains if you wana get fancy. Just a thought be about the cheapest way to get it going in my opinion. Either way best of luck with the ol girl she is actually in pretty good shape.

    • @Oliver66FarmBoy
      @Oliver66FarmBoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honing a stuck cylinder isn’t a fix. That’s a hillbilly bandaid.

    • @Deer-Run-Farms
      @Deer-Run-Farms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol hillbilly bandaid........ right..... I have personally done it to 2 3612 cats in mobark horizontal grinder as per recommended by CAT but that's a hillbilly bandaid. If the cylinder wall isnt in bad shape there 8s not a dam thing wrong with honing your cylinder walls replacing rings and rods and mains. But what do I know I only been turning wrenches for the last 38 years. Its your money if you want to piss it away go for it.

    • @Oliver66FarmBoy
      @Oliver66FarmBoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t really care what you’ve done. I know what I want out of it. I know what I want it to be. And I know how I do engine work. I want it right the first time so I never have to work on it again. Cheap and engine work should never go in the same sentence.
