    your easy to follow. I needed to sharpen my skills for patches in 10 year old house that plumbers had to cut open orange peel textured walls under the slab leak feed. The last thing I want is for the owner to "see" the patches. thanks

    Hey that first guy he showed named Joe... Lol. Man I'm sorry but that was HILARIOUS 😂. anybody who muds a butt joint with a 6 has no clue at all what they are doing. 1st year apprentice even know better than that. You use a 10-12" knife. I use a 10 just because it feels more comfy but a lot of REAL PROFESSIONALS use a 12. I have bad carpal tunnel so it's hard for me to get the right pressure with a 12. I'm 33.. been finishing almost 16 years now. Ik every trick of the trade. Learned from my pop whose almost 70 and still at it. Been finishing almost 50 years. Started when it was only plaster. I hate to call someone out but that Joe guy has absolutely NO CLUE what he is doing at all!! I'm a proud union member by the way. Local 47 Indianapolis Indiana!!😉. #UNIONSTRONG💪

    Great video! There’s one thing you had in the original video that I missed in this one: you talked about it being hard and possibly take a long time to learn how to do it right. 😅 (It may be discouraging to some but for me it just takes the pressure off and helps temper my expectations.) I haven’t attempted it yet but will be soon on a two foot racing stripe the electricians took out of the middle of the wall running the length of me kitchen… Thank you so much for doing these videos!!

    I really live the combo of a rookery to apply mud and a skim blade. I’m doing a house for my wife and I and she can stay ahead of me with a roller applying while I feather with a knife and clean up with a large skim blade.

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve never been able to eliminate bubbles and mud and don’t think you can, despite what some may say. Soap doesn’t solve it, etc. Sometime you can come back in a minute or two and hit it and reduce the bubbles but there’s not much you can do to eliminate them. There is a product I want to test so there might be one that helps reduce them, but I haven’t tried it yet.

    Good tips for beginners I guess ... if you can find your specialty tools ... I've seen guys over the years do all sorts of crazy stuff... using a big taper is a common trick ... when I walk up 2 a butt joint I IMMEDIATELY test with my 10 inch knife (bed coat ) or my 14 (skim coat) to see how bad it is ... thus eliminating the step of walking around a job an extra time ... and I ALLWAYS finish butt's and tapers TOGETHER ... at same time ... avoids the missed areas like in the butt joint above the one u are working on ....
    Do kilts not have back pockets? That 6 in on your side is an arterial wound waiting to happen 🤔 idk man .... never trust a guy in a dress is kinda holding true here .... kudos for helping Harry homeowners tho 👏 👌...however a long taper from the scrap pile can replace that $40+ specialty tool tho 🤷‍♂️

    It would be very nice if you do another video of how you get tide of the ridges left by the skimming blade. I get the ridges and have to use a 4 or 6 inch knife to cover them. You probably have a better method.

      Butts are NEVER actually flat unless they started out a little recessed.

    Just some dumb questions from an old pipefitter. Basement flooded, about an inch and half. I removed everything including all baseboard, door trim and drywall up to 10inches all around. Now I can put the drywall back and it will be a butt joint I'm taking all the way around, in my limited opinion i'm about to dick that up to no end. I'm sure I can replace the drywall but finishing all I can see is a clear line at 10" all the way around the basement when I'm done, the shadow as you spoke off. Why is the tape needed? This is what causes the hump in the first place, right. Can't I just pack it, put a nice top coat on and sand, both pieces start off at the same distance from the studd. Just wondering, or is there something better like the mess tape that is less pronounced than the paper if it's totally necessary to tape the joint. Peace, Kris

      The least noticeable is fibafuse which you can find at big box stores or in a link in my description

    You used the skim blade, but I still saw the tape after the 3rd coat. Will that not show up in the finished product?

      Wet mud is translucent. It doesn’t have to disappear. And that wasn’t 3 coats. It was one on the first butt and 2 on the 2nd butt.

      @@ThatKiltedGuyDIY So the butt joint you ran the 24 inch skim blade on you will do another pass over it and then its done?
