2025 G63 “Performance”: Louder V8, Faster Body, The Best Ever G Class!

- Guys welcome to the first drive of the ALL NEW #AMG #G63 Performance Pack and Off Road Pack! Two cars I felt were just mild facelifts, in both looks and performance: but boy was I wrong!! The little changes have come together for a HUGE effect in the new 465 G from AMG - mainly with insane new dynamics thanks to the new suspension, a crazy fast new launch control, and an improved exhaust note as the cherry on top!
#MercedesAMG have pulled out all the stops on the new G63. The big news is the AMG Active ride control suspension - not unlike what we found on the new AMG GT and SL 63 - and is a game changer for G Wagon.
It gets adaptive shock absorbers with Hydraulic connections, independently on each 4 wheels. This system can regulate the spring rate per wheel on the fly, so it can go fully rigid in corners then loosen on straight roads!
The V8 also sees an upgrade thanks to the mild hybrid boost, giving an extra 20HP and 200NM in each case for a total of 585HP + 20HP more, and 850NM +200NM! But the big improvement is the 0-60 time of 4.3 (which we smash in the video) thanks to the new race start function in the performance pack car! We’ll also take the Off-Road G63 on a rally proving course in Montpelier, to show the active ride system off roading better than before.
The new G63 gets even more customisation thanks to the Manufaktur and all new “Kundenwunsch” program. This program allows for complete control on car spec, from paint to sample PTS, to custom interiors and more. I’ll show an example car they had on display here for you to see.
Today, not only will we drive the new cars: but I’ll also drive the old G63 back to back with the new one, to show you just how different the two are! :)

My first ride with G63AMG ended up with one front wheel in the air.... and I loved it! This is the real character of the true G class.
Now - with that new suspension - sure, it may offer a better handling in the corners, but doesn't it kill its personality? ;-)

I had been holding off on getting a G63 for quite some time because I was waiting for the new version to be released. However, after seeing the presentations and discovering that they’ve made it a hybrid V8 with artificial engine sounds from the speakers, removed the iconic IWC watch, added the cheap plastic buttons to the steering wheel, I decided to go ahead and get the previous model. I’d rather forego the updated MBUX system than drive a hybrid G-Wagon, let alone a fully electric one.
But the answer is don’t add that option for the suspension when buying it
@craigh9112 the question is: can you set the new suspension that way, so it would act like a standard suspension, allowing for higher body roll?
The G is Mercedes' hottest product by far now. The SL used to be the star, but that era has passed. Even the S-Class doesn't command the space like a G does now.
Thank goodness Mercedes has redesigned the steering wheel 🙌❣️

I LOVE THIS! Mercedes thought F)*k it, we tried to be good boys by sticking to emissions and making it more quieter and we FAILED! no one likes this! lets give them what they want! BOOM! V8 noise! I hope all car companies go all out on noise till they actually arent allowed to.. done.
Correct me on this, but i think they added enhanced sound in the speakers. It's pretty hard to believe they made a newer car louder than the old one. I believe they did this in the other AMG SUVs which is a bit dissappointing if you know where the sound comes from.
What it really needed for power was a 4-cylinder hybrid like a true AMG...

@@EK-sw8xg do you really call this a hybrid? It‘s just a super mild hybrid because they replaced these old starters with an ISG it‘s simply better. Has nothing todo with typical hybrids and is normal in most new ICE cars. There is not a single mercedes motor without it anymore.

G63 has the most silent amg V8 exhaust with the most obnoxious pops, these characters belong to 4 bangers… Of course it’s the worst.

Would perhaps buy it, but I am lucky enough to have an almost mint G55 AMG with a completely overhauled engine. It’s a great tool for rugged outdoor adventures, and looks and sounds great too. I think an advantage of an older car is that there are no shiny touch screens and it feels like it can take a beating on the inside too without making permanent damage. I have no problem throwing climbing gear into the G55 but I might feel a bit more reserved about it with a glossy G63.
Could you share more on your engine overhaul? My own g55 likes a couple litres mobil1 every few 1000 miles so I guess new cylinder liners are due somewhere down the line. Nonetheless one of my favourite all time motors. Huge fun everywhere - except at the gas station 😂
@@drewgill6107 The engine (‘07) was more or less taken apart and rebuilt after it had sounded a bit off. The main problem was that the chain system had to be replaced but some gaskets, rings, hoses etc. were replaced too. It sounds and looks really good now (clean like a new engine).
I agree, it’s a bit thirsty. With that kind of power though you might not save much on a similar powered newer engine. I use about 1,5 liters/10 km when driving long distance but way more driving around town.

A carbon fiber front skid plate is not for off-roading
in my opinion: reminds me of my school locker, the most expensive 4x4 that will never go off pavement, no engine sound exterior shouldn’t it be the opposite? Several warnings exercise extreme care when turning, buy a jeep and enjoy off roading

There is nothing special about the G-Wagon anymore, down here in southern california, they're everywhere sprawled out like a pack of bad-behaving four wheel, skittles spilled all over the place...
It's a piece of the transmission and suspension, short of that, it's slightly overpriced Bentley and Bentleys almost worth every penny, at least they give you the option of a third row seat with the Bentayga.
I still like it but it would not be my first choice.

The G-Class is the only car they should have left as it was. 48 volts, complicated suspension, interiors with lights and fairy lights. Things that a G-Class didn't need.

it’s literally the same car 😂 but with small upgrades that people will appreciate, as a person whose driven in the previous generation, the lack of a touchscreen display and no wireless carplay was an inconvenience.

The exhaust pipes are in a bad location if you have young children getting in and out of the back seats. Move the exhaust pipes to the rear of the vehicle.
That’s the uniqueness of this car design, children would not need to be on this car, use a slow and steady ride to ferry the kids
