I know this is an old video, but I just wanted to give a tip for anyone who wants to learn Norwegian. For any language it is important to practice talking, but in Norwegian you really need to be mindful of accents and the use of consonants. For instance, if you say «styrte», the weight on the «y» or the lack of it can mean the difference between ruling or crashing something, «bak» can mean behind, butt or bake. Not that you should let that hold you back from talking, just that it is something to be aware of as Norwegian has a lot of words that sound similar but have different meanings depending how you say it.

Very interesting tips for learning and improving languages skills. I completely agree with you, but one of the best tips is to do not translate the expressions in your maternal language, we should speak and think in this language that we learn.

    • @Just_Call_Me_Tim
      @Just_Call_Me_Tim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I love this mindset! We learn our native tongue differently than we learn other languages, and that's by acquisition! We aquire sounds used to represent sights, sounds, objects, feelings, etc. It seems it would be much easier to approach gaining another language in the same way.

Terrific video! Many thanks to the author of the channel for the recommendations! The problem with many people is that they want to take a "magic pill" or get "secret knowledge" and immediately have skills and abilities. However, the truth of life is that knowledge, skills, and abilities do not come by themselves. You can't learn a foreign language without doing anything, without wasting your time and effort, just like you can't learn to ride a bike lying on a comfy couch, listening to lectures and watching videos about "modern methods of learning" on a bike. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. In order to find the answer to our question we have to spend a lot of time to read videos, articles and books by polyglots. In today's world, we have to solve problems as quickly as possible. I don't have time to study and analyze a huge amount of information. My goal is to master the basic knowledge of a foreign language as quickly as possible and already start earning money effectively in the international arena. I settled on the practical guide by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot's Notes: practical tips for learning foreign language". This book is always in my bag. If I have a problem while learning a language, I quickly find the answer in this book. There are many different techniques and tips for learning a foreign language in Polyglot Notes. I have made my own individual schedule and plan for language learning. Now I know what I am going to study, how I am going to study, when I am going to study and what results I am going to achieve. No problem could stop me! With an effective language learning plan my professional skills are more and more in demand internationally every day. Friends, don't stop there! Everyone has talents that millions of people around the world need! Learn the language and make your ideas and dreams come true! Thanks to the author of the channel for the informative and useful video! Your videos motivate me.

Ooh, thanks for the Tv series. I started watching Valkyrien today and got hooked on it from the get go!!! I also have a book recommendation for those of you interested in learning Norwegian. It is called The Mystery of Nils. I thought the author had a really nice catch he put short homework lessons in between each chapter. In order to understand the following chapters you have to get the homework done and what is clever about this book is that you want to get the homework done because you want to know what happens next. I have learned a lot from this book, the reading is smooth and the teaching method is effective. Totally worth trying!

  • @Luredreier

4:35 You said "bølgene" instead of "bølgen".
It's the difference between "the waves" and "the wave" with emphasis on "the".
    Also, "bølgen" is fictional thankfully.
But yeah, there's a few places where such a tzunami is likely to happen at some point or other.
For instance "prekestolen" (Preacher's Pulpit) *will* fall down into the fjord at some point or other.
It's *slowly* moving, with the crack at the base getting wider and wider.
However its anyones guess if it'll happen in 1000 years or tomorrow...
It'll most likely happen during autumn or winter however as the water in the cracks expands when it freezes and then melts and freezes again and again forcing the crack open more and more .
    6:16
Not sure if you *want* to hear this...
But it's "In a store" not "On a store"
Think the difference between the cream *in* a cake (inside it) and the cream *on* a cake (the cream on top of the cake or on the outside).
    09:08
When one of my sisters married a guy from Bangladesh my mother and I started practicing english.
I don't remember if it was one hour pr day or one day once a week, but basically we only did english for the whole time during that that time.
You two could try to have one hour in Portugese and one hour in Norwegian for instance.
You'd both learn from that. =)
If one of you don't understand something try to find synonymes in the same language to explain it.

I plan to branch off from Norwegian to Icelandic, and Old Icelandic (what little difference there may or may not be) and study the Sagas in as close to the original text as I can. But, that's just my goals. I have friends in Norway and want to visit some day; it would be loads of fun getting around and communicating in their own language.

Hey! I just discovered your channel and I haven't watched all your videos, so I wanted to know if you've ever made a video about how you moved to Norway ? As a European, I think that'd be basically the same for Portugal or France. My boyfriend and I talked about moving to Norway... Before we met he was planning to do so, but got "scared" because he doesn't speak a word of Norwegian and he understands English but his level is not very high. As for me, I'm planning to learn Norwegian I put down the TV shows you mentionned, etc.

Hello everyone I have been studying Norwegian for a couple of months now. I’m at a level where I can talk about certain things but I’m definitely not fluent. Also I’m self learned! I made a group chat in the app Goodwall (the app is called “Norwegian”) so if anyone’s interested I would like to become studying mates and practice with him/her!!!

Are Norwegian people typically happy to allow you to speak their language, or do they switch to English? I have a big adoration for Scandinavian languages but the possibility that they won’t let me speak their language is slightly holding me back. :(

She means to say the that a massive part of the steep mountain above the fjord comes loose after many years of erosion. This leads to a big splash so to speak and sends a tsunami rushing in the fjord devastating everything it passes.
This have happened many times in the past and it certainly will happened again, the tricky part are knowing when it will happen. Many vulnerable mountain areas today are under constant surveillance by the government to warn people and minimize the danger and losses such a tsunami would impact.
