Honestly this would make such a great ICE vehicle and I’m 100% sure more people would’ve purchased this Mini Van if it were available in ICE form. Personally I own a Mini Van for those times I go on road trips with friends and family! It’s so convenient and comfortable and beats any 3 Row SUV by a long shot. I haven’t needed a replacement. But if the ID BUZZ was available as an ICE Vehicle I would’ve made the switch ASAP!!!
Loved the “hippie” soundtrack… you never disappoint in the details. 👏 VW always manages to make weird look cool. That range, though. I’m trying to imagine what it would be with a family of four on a frigid night with the climate control on full blast and all the seat heaters on and smart phones or tablets plugged in. 😱 Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
I recently learned that the Chicken Tax basically ruined the truck versions for the U.S. market. Yes the Chicken Tax tariff was in response to European countries placing tariffs on U.S. poultry products, but apparantly the U.S. auto industry had been petitioning President Johnson about placing a tariff on the VW trucks that are based on the VW Microbus.
I believe it's all import automotive that is subject to that , hence why we don't get the lil kei car/trucks much and they "chicken tax" the f outta them so it makes it not worth them being imported and or not able to get them legal .... I want to say I heard something last year about the possibility of the chicken tax being lifted. But tbh they make to much from it , the only way we will get that is prolto petition for it to change the mandate AR just drop it in general .. but if you know the US government, they all about $ and tax dollars are there rainy day money they refuse to lose 😢.. peace and love fam
I'm 99% sure that particular tariff applies to the cargo van version too. Fun fact, that tariff is why the subaru B.R.A.T. had rear seats - it's an "open-air rear passenger area," not a "truck bed" lol
The original bus you wouldn’t want to drive it far but you could.. Versus the modern incarnation which you’d like to drive long distances but it can’t..
Oh yes! Was hoping you would get to test the Buzz by now! I liked the EU-version a lot, when I test drove it about 2 years ago. Much nicer than a SUV: MPVs for the win! Thank you for what you do and Stay Awesome!
Best review ever. The bus is ok " should all be hybrid " but between that outfit and the bee dance. Priceless lolololool Please never stop being you..... Bless you from Wyoming
Very cool and sciencey-modern verhicle. Cool! And love all your vehicle reviews. Most reviews talk about the same things (the engine specs, the descriptions of headlights, etc.), but you talk & show everything else I'm interested in knowing about. Wonderful.
Pleased to see you're finally doing PROPER rounding with your measurements on sway bars, exhaust pipes etc. I often wondered if the Air Force had an actual measurements course as part of your training. And yes, those courses do exist.
Somewhere there is a StarTrek nerd jumping for joy to get one of these. For sure it will get some tubes added to the sides along with covers over the tires to turn it into a NCC-1701 shuttle.
6:20 Will never be able to not hear "driv-dot-mode" when I see that screen 😊 Another of those unique little Sarah touches that make all your videos so much more entertaining.
I just realized that, after dozens of vehicles over the years, the only van I’ve owned was the original VW skylight/split windshield/cloth sunroof van, nearly fifty years ago. Those VW market research folks are pretty smart, since they’ve captured my interest again, decades down the road😊
Sarah saved the best insight for last. I doubt there will be a market for a road trip van with a 200 mile range. The only hope for this is if it becomes a suburban Mom soccer team van. The challenge there is that boomers and Gen X people who remember these vans when they were out in the original version, are too old to have kids playing soccer anymore.
Great review! A small note about the tire sizes; front and back are actually different sizes. My ID4 is the same way. 235 50 r20 front and 265 45 r20 back I am excited to get one! Thanks for the in-depth review!🤙
@ No worries 🤙 It just came up recently when I purchased studded snow tires for my ID4. It does mean that You can’t rotate them in the conventional way, which is strange. Still, the Buzz looks like a great vehicle. Have an Awesome Day!
Great catch with you correcting VW on the proper name for an EVs mode of propulsion. That 'stop/start' button was incorrectly named by using by calling it a 'Stop Engine Start' instead of "Stop Motor Start". Thanks for another great car rating video..
Fancy one of these, even though I dont normally like EVs. The range is poor though, maybe it'll make more sense when we have better batteries, or charging infrastructure.
I really appreciate you showing the underside. No one else does that. But as an old fart that learned to drive and off-road in the early 1980s in a 1962 Bus, I wish you had done your off-road test. I know it would be a little silly with how low the Buzz sits, but we need to know if it can handle more than a pothole. 😁
18:11 I think the context that in Europe this vehicle is being used as final-mile delivery and cargo vans (kind of like the rivian Amazon vans) puts a little bit of extra context into why the range doesn't match the retro road trip bus vibes. Having a tiny little generator motor for extended range driving would have really helped. They could have even made it flex fuel to try and cash in in on green vibes (catering to biodiesel enthusiasts might still be out of reach for VW😂)
Thank the chicken tax for no cargo van variant. They could do a Mercedes hack and strip it on delivery and remove the side windows. But they won't that wasn't made for the US market. The range would work in Europe for a football mom or delivery.
I have two kids and a woodworking business. Most of our driving is in town. Short trips less than 20 miles. This is the dream replacement for our 15-year-old Odyssey. That price is tough, though. 😬
I've been wondering about this Van since I saw it come around town up here on its promo tour. I agree this thing is gigantic!! At least you don't look ridiculous driving it unlike my situation. 🙂 Drum brakes? I guess they had to save money somewhere? At 69G's US.. wow! You're correct in wondering who the audience is for this type of vehicle. I get that its quirky, but I don't think the people who would want to relive some nostalgia would be able to afford it. P.S. I'm impressed how chill you are around bees. I'd be swatting at them to save my life.
It's too bad you don't have time for yourself. I think that bee shuffle should become a thing. 3 and a half tons, yowza, what a beast. I would wrap it in school bus yellow and call it my short bus.
6:34 I see a "comfort" mode on the climate menu! This must be like Mazda's "occupant comfort" and Lexus' "climate concierge" where the ai automatically adjusts for ambient butt temperature and hand temperature. I really like it on cold days because my butt warms up and doesn't get too toasty.
on the back roads surrounding Tukson i'm sure there were dudes saying " hey ! race the hippie chick in the hippiemobile " / edit - super helpful cameraman.
Germans love to do sh!t like that that makes routine maintenance more expensive with no appreciable gain for the consumer. Plus starting at $65k means the depreciation with be massive
I love how it's just fine and dandy to bring this flat nosed van to America because it's electric, but the Hiace and the Bongo and all the cool four-wheel drive vans in the rest of the world we just can't get here. They're just not quite safe enough. What a crock!
The beaklet? LOL. Perfect. But seriously... A SIX THOUSAND POUND minivan? Even with regenerative breaking, a vehicle that heavy being driven as an urban assault vehicle in stop-and-go after-school duties is going to go through tires and brakes like candy. If every maker is going to insist on building over-powered Taj Mahals for $69,000, they aren't going to sell enough to make any improvement in carbon emissions.
Interesting vehicle for sure. I think there is something to be said for in "in town" hauler for large(r) families/friends (I have 4 kids, daily is a '23 odyssey with >32k in which I avg 20mpg for mostly city style driving). I'd love an in town EV for the efficiency but then I'd want something different for the inevitable road trip. 95% of my driving is in town. Arguably I could rent for the road trips, but even at 55k+, that's more than I spent all in on the odyssey. *shrug*
Honestly this would make such a great ICE vehicle and I’m 100% sure more people would’ve purchased this Mini Van if it were available in ICE form.

Fabulous outfit, Sarah ! You look great .
Wow! I have a 1965 VW Bus 🚎 so I’m looking forward to Sarah taking us into the future 🙂just the greatest! ❤️
We also had one in the 1960's, when I was a kid. Only had a 1300cc engine , but it was fun times (from what I can remember)
LOVING the bee dance! 🤣🤣🤣

Transit connect vans were imported with seats which were binned at port of entry.
The original bus you wouldn’t want to drive it far but you could.. Versus the modern incarnation which you’d like to drive long distances but it can’t..
"jeee, the largest rear I've ever measured." ... this woman is priceless. XD
Those plastic covers on the wheels are reminiscent of the original VW Moonies from years ago on the original bus, plus others.
Great review as always and might I add, that you are looking fantastic 🤩
Oh yes! Was hoping you would get to test the Buzz by now! I liked the EU-version a lot, when I test drove it about 2 years ago. Much nicer than a SUV: MPVs for the win! Thank you for what you do and Stay Awesome!
btw - the cargo-van version outsell the people-carrier version 10-1 or something here in Sweden. They are everywhere!
@@niklaswejedal463I’m in Northern Scotland 🏴 All the id Buzz’s I’ve seen have company logos on them.
Thank you Sarah for your informative review. You are the best.
Six thousand pounds? Wow! The original bus was a little more than a third of that. PS: super-cute outfit today!
A LOOOOOOOO. MINUN
£60k not £6k
@@gerry-p9xI don't think that's breaking down enuf for them fam , 😅 it still a big battery pack on wheels 🤔 😂
@@howardbatty254
He's talking about the weight not the bloody price 😂
@@howardbatty254 I believe that 6k is the weight of the vehicle, not the price in pounds sterling. The original VW microbus was about 2K pounds.
If It was a hybrid, I'd be in. But that range is a deal breaker.
Love the hippie look and the van is ok too.

Just another reason watch and love your Videos.
Interesting and cool vehicle, great review and another spot on outfit.
Iron Giant went to Germany and was recycled into a van.
Somewhere there is a StarTrek nerd jumping for joy to get one of these. For sure it will get some tubes added to the sides along with covers over the tires to turn it into a NCC-1701 shuttle.

I have never clicked to watch a review video as fast as this!
I knew I could come here for the BEST technical review of this fascinating vehicle.
Each video is a fascinating journey into the world of knowledge and new ideas. Thank you for your hard work!🐩🦒😸
I just realized that, after dozens of vehicles over the years, the only van I’ve owned was the original VW skylight/split windshield/cloth sunroof van, nearly fifty years ago. Those VW market research folks are pretty smart, since they’ve captured my interest again, decades down the road😊
Your videos are the epitome of quality and style. I look forward to each new release!⛱🚖🎋
They should have also made an ICE variant of this van. More people would buy it that way.
Very cute outfit and hilarious dance at the end. Lol
TDI sounds nice.
100% agree, electric only made the cost way too high and it unfortunately has an expiration date now.
Great review! And what a fitting outfit for it too. Gah though - the bee at the end! What a place to have one - glad that ended well.
I will always appreciate the JDM pointer-finger-doodle.
First one I have seen in Mono color, it really changes the vibe.
I was going to say. VW gave her the most bland colour possible? Bismarck Grey?

You looked great. The van ahhh think I'll pass but always enjoy the reviews and what's new in the automotive world.
Très bien cette vidéo aujourd'hui et un joli out fit 🙏

Great job on the video Sarah! Thanks for making it. They should make an off-road version of this thing.

I like how they styled Buzz to look kinda like those old Kleinbus models.
Yeah well, it's a "kleinbuzz" 😁. Not so klein though.
Thank the chicken tax for no cargo van variant. They could do a Mercedes hack and strip it on delivery and remove the side windows. But they won't that wasn't made for the US market. The range would work in Europe for a football mom or delivery.

Love the channel Sarah. Maybe move to a non hateful place before the purge comes? I pray for you I do.
Hooray for miles of legroom in the back! 🎉
Hello Sarah - love your boots nice lipstick too .
I actually like this. I dont need it nor do I have enough money for one but I want it anyway.
So what you're saying is it's a Synchro VW van. Can't wait for the dedicated off road version. Four inch lift, luggy tires, pop top, full kitchen...
I suppose the removable console would make sense for a camper van. Where you could then access the drinking compartment while never exiting the van.

This would be a more practical vehicle if they offer a model without all the creature comforts. Sadly not an option. Excellent review!
seen so many of the van version used by trades people, very cool. Weird how the buzz is more expensive in the US, usually cars are cheaper over there
Tnx for the metrics, Sarah 👍.
That wheel jerk during the breaking never saw that before..
Thumbs up just for the groovy intro!

Happy Monday Sarah!
With that massive curb weight and torque, this thing will eat through tires like there’s no tomorrow!
While not my favorite body style I would still take it over the Rolling Dumpster (Cyber Truck)
It's too bad you don't have time for yourself. I think that bee shuffle should become a thing. 3 and a half tons, yowza, what a beast. I would wrap it in school bus yellow and call it my short bus.
As is often the case, the push button start button hasn't kept up with our evolutionary progress towards electrification.

That thing is INSANELY heavy.
Nice boots B.T.W.
It will become the new family hauler vehicle for cool parents that their kids won't be embarrassed from.
"Apparently it's face comes off..." I'm still laughing.
23 windows and a stronger motor was all we needed.
8:58...........interesting info on the stator wires.........makes sense.
I love this van. ❤
231 miles per charge… maybe tow a diesel electric generator behind it.
OMG, that looks just like the vans in Cyberpunk 2077!
White top......crimson red lipstick.......and da boots👌👌👌👌👌
Round lights, plz. Remember Jeep YJ controversy? VW is channeling Pontiac Aztek over here.

Very ominous Chimes used throughout the video, I was surprised each time it happened.
After watching this I want to solve mysteries
aw, Teeter Tot enshrined forever on the rear door button ...
Literal bees in a Buzz review, unbeelievable.
Just nitpicking, but the tires are actually staggered. Fronts are 235/50 R20 (seen at 4:29), rears are 265/45 R20 (seen at 5:05).

Another great video! Actually disagree with the spaceship sounds, I really think it should sound like the original VW microbus... 😂

Cool ass vehicle but the pitiful range 😮

Should we guess at the price of the inevitable aftermarket camper versions? About $100K would be my guess. Yikes!
I think the solid color looks better than the two-tone version
Fascinating.
