I've got to be honest I am very pleased they got the offer. 60% of something huge is always better than 100% of something small. Amazed by their turnover but lack of net profit though - they really need dragons to help them change that.
May have something to do with them using the corporate card as their own personal card lolol
@@pummer Putting the corporate card onto their normal card would be pointless as they are a couple and are the only shareholders. Basic information. they share money and all their money is from the business. so why not just use that card

because for a long time when their costs were low - their prices drove high turnover and had good margins .. but then significantly higher across the board costs wiped out those margins, but if they had then raised their prices in a competitive market - they would have wiped out their turnover and run the risk of entirely collapsing their customer base and thus their business..

Rich people never play with their own money
Obviously their businessplan is flawed. The moment a business starts making money you need to start pocketing money and building the capital of the business. If you are forced to put all the gross profit back into the business to keep it going, you don't have a business.
@@FLRSKLVR this is exactly it. One of the first things you'll learn if you study business is that most businesses that fail do so because of liquidity issues (i.e. lack of cash). They can be really profitable, but if you have no cash, you won't survive.

You're talking about a business that's profitable, but has no cash. How do get in that situation? By taking all the money out. This is basically gambling. I hate these types of products that basically try to make loopholes in real life. They get around the laws by placing the mystery item inside another product. Marketing the product by saying if you buy a 20 dollar candle you can get a 2000 piece of jewlery.

We've had these candles with the hidden jewelry for years here in the US. I used to buy coffee with hidden jewelry also. It's a cool idea, i hope they do well.

What a horrible deal. They don't accept a $500,000 buyout but they let these little TV sharks get a $250,000 valuation on the business. Hate to see it.

The dragons were very gentle with them and kept letting them make comments and responses.
I'm waiting for the day Nerd Culture arrives in the Den and instead of walking to the wall the entrepreneurs just discuss with each other in Klingon in front of the Dragons.
I mean fair enough they probably got that offer for 500K from other company year or so into the business when they were making over that so my guess is that's why they declined.

I don't know how long this company has been around but I live in Canada and we have a store here that sells things like this and has been for a couple of years. I thought that I was "late" to the party discovering it.
To me it always seemed that the dragons were so blatantly trying to rip off these small, vulnerable businesses. That being said, they have forgot more about business than I will ever know.
I'm surprised this doesn't leave them massively open to lawsuits from people burning themselves trying to pull jewels out of hot wax.
I don't see how such a lawsuit could possibly win in a UK court.

How can you do proper accounting when you are using the company card for personal use?
my boss took us out for rinks, he made us go to the supermarket for offiuce snacks using gthe company card, so whats teh difference. they could have just taken a salary, so either way it comes out as deductions and expenses. next please

@@dsmsl9734 you're right that they could have just taken a salary, but that absolutely would have made accounting cleaner. I've made the mistake of doing both. Pull your salary. If you're using the company account for personal expenses, it's a nightmare. Your boss was categorizing those as business expenses, you just couldn't figure it out. The business paid for that, not your boss, and if he owned the company, he was just helping his tax liability
That half a million offer wasn't because the competing company though they were valid competition; it was because half a mill was a drop in the ocean to remove a small competitor.
Somewhere, a hunch of number crunchers would have calculated what amount Imperial Candles might cost them in sales over the course of five or ten years.

The company was dissolved via a compulsory strike off in November 2020
I wonder how much of that was down to covid. Granted they were struggling anyway, but I can't help but ponder if a lot of people started doing this sort of thing on their own, plus others finding they couldn't justify the spending anymore, cancelled Christmas and birthday gatherings etc.
Their website is still selling and active though

Check to see the website belongs to the company, it could be transferred to another company or to themselves as self employed.
I'm so happy for this nice couple and of course, the 2 investors could make a deal.

Touker is super nice and he's also always good at waiting before making his bid. Often time he gets a much better deal that way.
This makes me so sad. It was a business that just needed a loan and they took nearly most of the business. Horrific.
What makes you think they just needed a loan? Their turnover tells you they had a lot of money coming in which increased year on year mostly and yet still ended up with their net profit dwindling each year. They need more than a loan. Now they have experienced entrepreneurs that should hopefully change that.
With a loan they have an extra £100k for a few week/months.Then go bankrupt..with the dragon and £100k they have a really good chance to grow like hell!And now they have 2 dragons

I assume they were bought out as when you put in imperial candles, a royal essence candle described the same way came up. Not sure if they have just rebranded or been bought out 🤷♀️

they are running to stand still. Income is great but obviously the price is too low on the products. Not taking the buy out offer has to be sheer pride. There is however one thing I think this company can do, go proper unique. Customers provides the ring (engagement, obviously) to be put into a candle. Candle can have personalised branding etc
You wouldn't want expensive jewellery in the candles. Its fine in a plastic bag in the bath bombs. I've got candles with gems hidden in them but the candle burns them, you have to clean the soot and wax off them.
Turning down GBP500k shows business naiety to me, given their balance sheet and that they presumably were then close to the end.
Maybe I missed it, and I'm not going to watch it again, but I didn't hear them go over their balance sheet. You have no idea what assests the business had. Did the bussiness have a 500k in inventory? Any other assets? We don't know.

It depends brother......I've had 7 figures in the bank for my business and last week I was under 10k and the business does over 4 million a year. The account being empty was not an indication of my businesses health. If you look at the actual balance sheet, I've stocked up on 3 million dollars in inventory, I have 0 debt, and net profit margins consistently over 20%. I was forced to spend all my cash because the supply chain is so fucked with this pedo president

Mlm isn't about the product. But yes, most mlms sell candles. Mlm is a business model that forces its own employees to be it's main customers, while at the same time prioritizing its employees recruiting more people to become employees themselves. This creates a near infinite distribution chain funneling money to the top.

I don't really understand business if I'm honest but I don't know how £7m of earnings could possibly result in an overall loss, unless they've spent stupidly on the business card instead of giving themselves a modest salary.

Given the cost of advertising on social media, let alone anywhere else, I'd wager that that's where a lot of it was going. Especially since the 40% shareholder was solely focused on marketing. It worked to the tune of 400,000 followers... but also to the tune of a loss in a year of 1+ mil turnover. Ouch.
7Million in sales is not 7Million in earnings. If I buy 10Million of Milk but sell it for 7Million, I lose everything.
