Absolute classic album. In my opinion this is one of the great all-time classic rock bands. I've been listening to this music for a long time and of course it never gets old, kind of like Beethoven.
Hey Fellow Humans. This entire album is Great, and as You said JD, the theme is Kerry's search for meaning. To me this is about those unexplainable moments in all our lives, where events played out, that seemed random, but had very unexpected, yet necessary results. I certainly think that God shows His Love through Miracles Out Of Nowhere. Magnum Opus would relieve Dave of His lyrical interpreting responsibilities, and He would love it.
This is one of Kerry Livgren's searching ( for spiritual meaning) songs lyrically. Musically, a baroque-like classical middle section with a rocking finale, excellent violin riffs/solos throughout. Bassist Dave Hope is killing it too. As always with Kansas, superb vocals ( violinist Robby Steinhardt shares the lead vocals with Steve Walsh). This song is a showstopper live, it ALWAYS brings the house down( been to about 30 Kansas shows over the years), the live version from " Two For The Show" is even better than this version. RIP Robby Steinhardt 🎻
Hey guys, I'm glad I found your channel! My name is Karl, 58, from Albuquerque, NM. Kansas is my favorite band of all time! My first introduction to Kansas was the album Leftoverture and was hooked after that! The Kansas 5 is the first 5 Kansas albums which are all stellar: 1. Leftoverture, 2. Point Of Know Return, 3. Song For America, 4. Masque, and 5. Kansas. If I were to rate albums after that they would be : 6. Absence Of Presence, 7. Prelude Implicit, 8. Vinyl Confessions, 9. Audio Visions, and 10. Monolith! Please explore songs from these albums. Since I began my musical journey where I really started to appreciate music in 1976, I was 11, my first album was the first Boston, then Chicago 2, Styx Grand Illusion, Foreigner's first album, Journey's Departure, Rush's Moving Pictures, Triumph's Allied Forces, Little River Band's Sleeper Catcher! I also got into The Who, Bad Company, Ace, Ambrosia, Player, AC/DC, The Cars, Van Halen, and of course Weird Al Yankovic( I loved Weird Al because he parodied groups and artists I didn't like.) Please react to more of my favorite bands, thank you!
I can't listen to this loud enough now and that is a part of what the two albums of Kansas that I have require, loud enough to hear all the fun things going on: _Leftoverture_ and _Point of Know Return_ are both good listens all the way through. Cheers! :)
Another great reaction video! This is one of my favorite Kansas songs, and Kansas is one of my favorite all time bands. Kansas was the first concert I ever saw way back in 1975 at the old Hersheypark Arena (where the Hershey Bears hockey team used to play, before they built the new Giant Center). They were opening for Bad Company but I was there for Kansas, because I was already a fan from their Masque album. This was before Leftoverture came out. Thanks again and welcome back!
Kansas was such a unique band it really is amazing they got as big as they did. They performed so well live they had a hard time getting bands that would tour with them. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith tried to unplug them because they were to good! They truly are awesome live.
I think the essence of Kerry Livgren's meaning comes out in the chorus - he was a seeker, always reading books on religion and philosophy, a search that eventually led him full circle back to his Christian roots growing up in Tokepa, Kansas. If you want to continue Kerry's journey, The Wall on Leftoverture is also a strong part of it but you'll find a lot on the Audio Visions album.
You should hear Kansas’ Two for the Show, a double live album from ‘77 or ‘78. They used no overdubs, click tracks, voiceovers or other “fixing“ technologies. They were the finest live band in the 70s. What you hear on this live double album is exactly what was recorded on the truck tape. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
The song, as most great Kansas songs, is about Kerry Livgren, who studied every faith in the world and finally discovered the truth of Christianity. Read his autobiographies “Seeds of Change” and “Miracles out of Somewhere.” Fascinating stuff!
I’m 56 or 57 now! Hydrocephalus sucks and I don’t want to do the math. I don’t listen to a lot of 70’s bands anymore. I do still listen to Rush, Kansas, Dire Straits etc…They still interest me
Love this album! It is composed, orchestrated, performed and recorded so beautifully! In their heyday, Kansas were comparable to any of the best prog rock bands (though, as you might've seen from prior comments, Rush is my favorite), and what they did with harmonies was truly magical. Please do more Kansas reactions!
Good morning Gents. Nice pick. Listening now...love the format of two buddies discussing music et. al. This is almost a podcast in the vein of Gerry and Steve's "Something For Nothing Rush Fancast". Worth listen if you have not already checked it out.
Leftoverture: One of the greatest albums ever recorded. But for a real Kansas treat, listen to their live double album, Two for the Show. Best live band I’ve ever heard! (8x in the 70s.)
I saw Kansas live once. 1977, Point of No Return tour. They played Miracles! I too find Kansas's (Livgren's) introspective and philosophical lyrics interesting. So much better than their "love songs" later. One theme he visited was "growing old" and grieving loss. Not exactly what one would produce for the album buying demographic of teen boys. No where is that more evident than on Incomudro and Lamplight Symphony. Both Prog masterpieces. Also in my Kansas favorite list are: Icarus The Pinacle (with Mysteries and Mayham leader) Magnum Opus The Wall Peace
It’s not all synth! It’s real piano & organ. The synth is a minor part of the song! Kerry plays piano and synth; Steve plays organ and sings main vocals.
If you do another Kansas song, please consider Song for America. It stands, for me, as their masterpiece. Incredible time signatures, very rich prog chops but yet very listenable at the same time.
I agree ... it's a great one. If you like variety of sound in your electronic keyboards, check out Isao Tomita. He's got like a hundred different sounds and uses them all. He specializes in transforming classical music pieces into electronic keys.
Absolute classic album. In my opinion this is one of the great all-time classic rock bands. I've been listening to this music for a long time and of course it never gets old, kind of like Beethoven.
As a 70's child from Kansas, I agree we need more Kansas
The call and response between Walsh and Steinhardt make this song incredibly special.
I grew up listening to this music. I was born in 1960 !
It's always been my favorite Kansas song. And I was alive when it was recorded.
Oh man I love Kansas. It would be awesome if you do more videos about their songs

KANSAS always puts me in a good mood.

Fellas, this song is an ode to boys coming of age. We must all continue to grow and learn.

Great album, great tune (IMHO, one of their best), surprised it does not get more attention...

Saw them play this in 04. Check that off the bucket list.

I'm now convinced this song is a prophecy from the 70's of Dave & Jon's friendship and this channel overall.
very interesting... - JD
Best album ever! Queen used to go see Kansas in concert. Best live band I ever saw; and I’ve seen a lot.

Jarring??? It’s incredible orchestration. Thank you Kerry Livgren for your amazing talents!

The music genius known as Kerry Livgren! And his great backup band known as Kansas!!! LOL
Leftoverture: One of the greatest albums ever recorded. But for a real Kansas treat, listen to their live double album, Two for the Show. Best live band I’ve ever heard! (8x in the 70s.)
I suggest Lamplight symphony, from their Song For America album
And it is a great story song for Dave.
Yes! I agree. Kansas is the greatest band ever! Saw them many times in the 70s.
Yes! And Incomudro
@phoenix9375 - Welcome to the channel! Your vote has been added (along with Clayton's and Jim's votes) to the original suggestion from Janice! - JD

Ear Candy, For Sure!!!!!!!!
A Kerry Livgren masterpiece!
I tend to like bands with gongs. And the band Gong; they're good too.
One definition of prog: You can’t dance to it!
I dance to it all the time, especially at concerts. Ya just gotta know when to dip and when not to dip. - JD
It’s easier once you figure out the meter. You CAN dance in 5 or 7, but only when you know that that’s what it is.
More bong please...I mean gong - I vote for "He knew" by Kansas
Added! - JD
GONG!!!
As to Rubens, he made large painting of large women.
Absolute crime, Kansas is not in the Rock and Roll HOF.
