I saw in a magazine that she and Jack Cassidy were at a party, at the same time.
      They just started laughing.
Soon, the whole room was laughing.
I said, "No wonder. Those are the two silliest laughs in Hollywood!"

She was embarrassed and laughed it off, and every time she tried an opener, she couldn't remember what was next. Then suddenly, she remembered and everything was fine after that.

bizarre story I have about Phyllis Diller. very random. I had a bizarre injury and was stuck at home for a very long time. I seldom even then ever slept during the day but one afternoon in 2012 I fell asleep on the couch. Groggy I stirred back awake after about 45 minutes and I was in that zone between actually getting up off the couch and still being partly asleep. I have this presence around me I can't describe it except it was so familiar and I remember thinking it's Aunt Blanche but Blanche wasn't actually my aunt she was my mom's best friend Spinster diva type lady. Then I thought to myself no it's not quite that Blanche but it's someone like her. it came to me with such a punch I can't even describe it but I was aware the energy that was surrounding me was absolutely that of Phyllis Diller. I watched her on TV as a kid growing up and I roused myself back up sitting up I looked up my computer and I thought Phyllis Dtiller why am I feeling Phyllis Diller? I hadn't given her any thought for 30 years and I thought to myself is she even still alive? so when I went online and I found indeed Phyllis Diller was still alive. The next day I saw on the news that she had died overnight... What were the odds of that!!!?? God love Phyllis Diller

She went from poor working mother of 5 with a lazy deadbeat husband to fame and fortune within a short period. That book talks about the unleashed powers of our thoughts. I recommend you read it. Phillys always laughed at her own jokes, and the audience, then, always laughed at her laughter. :-D

Most importantly, she reacted to her jokes _after_ the line was delivered, not before, like some comedians, who can hardly contain their admiration for their own humor. The line is delivered like it was part of a boring story about bargains at the supermarket. Then, after you realize it was the next joke, she "realizes" it too and you're laughing together. An amazing talent to be both the joke teller and part of her own audience, and in such rapid-fire succession.

I was in the studio audience when she appeared on the NRL Footy Show back in the the late 90s. She would have been around 80 years of age or so then, and she was still hilariously funny.
