Not quite as crazy as all of these, but my grandmother said that she broke up with her boyfriend because he lied about cheating at a card game. She said "If you are willing to lie to me about something as small as this, you are willing to lie about something much bigger."

I do get her logic completely. Lies within the rules of a game is something different. Just the act of cheating in itself says something about a persons character.

Bruh my family added a house rule to our monopoly where you can cheat as long as you don’t get caught. As in grabbing money from the bank when no one’s looking, stealing peoples stuff when the go to the bathroom. We have no shame when it comes to cheating.

4:36 I just want to point out that in 1989 a guy who's actual last name was "Noid" went into a Domino's Pizza in Atlanta armed and took the employees hostage because he thought Domino's mascot was making fun of him. Thankfully no one was hurt, and all he did was demand ransom money. Dominoes had to drop the Noid mascot because of it. Thought it ties in to this morbid topic.

My friend did the classic Monopoly up-end when I was about to beat him, but then went back to it and then threw the entire thing out of a third storey window. The game was run over by the traffic below, which, to be honest, is what it deserved.

So this was told to me by my aunt, at Christmass: My grandparents were quite poor, and my grandmother was basically an litteral evil person in life. One christmass an aunt gave my dad and his 3 sisters a board game. I think monopoly. For once they had something fun to do and a real present for christmass.
Grandmother didn't like "the noice" from the kids, packed the game up, and tossed it into the fireplace. She simply couldn't abide anyone around her being happy.
I must have looked completely aghast, cause my aunt just said: "That's your granny...." and my dad just nodded. It happened.
I still don't understand people who would do that to children.

@@boskoboskovic1227 No, and definitely not at that time.
A friendly game of Monopoly without haggling, rents or stupid game prolonging house rules are just snakes and ladders. You walk around, buying properties and pray that you get a full set. Eventually someone wins, or you run out of time, but who cares, "it is only a game".
And it is still a better gateway to more serious board games than football.

I only flipped the table once. It was a game of Risk. What makes it interesting is that I was winning. What made me mad was how my brother was (and still is) unable to lose with any sense of dignity. After asking him a couple of times to stop being so defeatist, I lost it and flipped the board. To be fair, I was still a teenager, but ever after more than 15 years I still remember this vividly.

  • @Fluffyudders

I once witnessed my brother get so salty over a game of Monopoly he legitimately wrote a letter of complaint (to Waddington's I believe) detailing the events of the game and asking them if they agreed that what happened was unfair.

A game of D&D I hosted recently slipped into pretty grim territory when, after a particularly bad run of luck for both began to build more and more resentment, two of my players, (brothers I might add) began to air their long standing grievances with each other in front of 7 other players.. 3 of which were joining via discord. Nd this was far from "in character". It led to a bizarre scene in which I had to essentially play dad, put my foot down and say something close to the effect of "this behaviour stops NOW or I'm turning this campaign AROUND!!".. Pretty tame week compared to some :P

I played tournament 40k for about 20 years. I have seen plenty of models launched around rooms, furious storm outs and tables flipped. The "best" would have been the metal dreadnought picked up by its owner and launched into the wall on the other side of the room we were playing in. It shattered but not before it left a fist sized dent in the wall. The guy calmly packed up the rest of his gear and left the event, never to be seen again.

Not so much a "heated" moment but while we were once playing Ticket To Ride, one person at our table (who realised she was losing) screamed that we were all nerds for playing the game before my partner shouted back in her face: "YOU'RE PLAYING IT TOO!" Thankfully, no one took it too seriously and we dissolved into laughter and continued the game. Just goes to show what happens when people start to lose 🤣

Another mate eventually got hotels on the reds and right before the first guy looked like running away with it, he landed on Fleet Street, Trafalgar Square and then chance carded a “go to Trafalgar Square” and was made bankrupt immediately. • @BadDayLp
      @BadDayLp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Most tableflips could be prevented if people would decide BEFORE the start of the game if they play according to the rule book or with a homebrew. And EVERY "but the rules..." need to be put down immediatly because everybody agreed beforehand.
Since doing that, there never was a risk of a table flip ever again.
I just had to make clear a few times that there is NO complaing about rules IN the game.
You can voice your ideas beforehand and not when it comes great to your current game.

I never told my parents exactly how it broke, but I knew that if I wanted another GBA, I would have to be the one to pay for it. That $40 I spent on a lightly used GBA was a lot for 12-year-old me, and needless to say, I learned very quickly how to reel in my temper after that incident. This video actually awoke a memory in me: I couldn’t tell you the game we were playing, it could’ve been UNO, it could’ve been Clue, I don’t remember, but for some reason the tensions ran so high, my mother’s boyfriend (one of… many) decided to pull his gun on me. Mind you, I was, like, 13. It was such a bizarre incident, not even just for that, but because I’m sitting there trying not to freak out and deescalate the situation, my mother, who was right there just thought the whole situation was funny, meanwhile her boyfriend is giving me an intense, hateful stare as he’s, y’know, pointing a gun at me.

In my case, it was at a college gamers' club. I had just joined, and played a few games of Magic the Gathering. I then came up against one of the leaders of this club. It turns out, he was a little new to MtG and did not appreciate how some of the rules played out, and proceeded to ban me until I played by his rules (basically how he thought the rules were meant to play out).
Fun thing, I ran into him at a local card store years later, playing a tournament. I asked if he remembered me, and he jokingly said I was still banned, though he obviously learned how to play since. He still did not like my old strategy though, haha.

Kind of surprised that there wasn't any poker on this list. I think that poker cheating was one of the leading causes of cowboy death

My only board game stories, boringly, are about my enjoyment being burnt through by an older sister that needed to be winning or she was never happy. It wasnt just competition, she actively wanted everyone else upset and suffering.

When I was in high school there would be a group of people who would play uno. One day they we playing teams and one team kept stacking plus 4s on the other team until the other team started doing it on them. They still had plus 4s until the teammate number 2 said I’m out but they still stacked including his teammate. So those teams started a fist fight at lunch and were suspended. Over a game of uno. For 10 days.

Adam I would like to play Phase 10 with you, every time I play with my parents I just get yelled at and leave the table if I skip them once, and they always want me to play and I just say no all the time now, which sucks because I like games

I remember a game of risk a couple of mine and I were playing that ended by the board being thrown into a fireplace and the dice destroyed with a hammer.... hard booze and risk should never be mixed is the moral of this story lol

Oh, a Dominos murder also happened here in Spain years ago. Two grandpas ended up stabbing eachother during a game.
I would say I was surprised, but one time a fart caused a shooting between two gangs in a town close to where I live, so...

nothing noteworthy destructive, worst is either someone reaching for and grabbing a couch cushion to chuck at someone else. Worst for me was getting up, and walking away "nope, nope nope.. I'll be back later.. but nope" after playing, oddly enough "start player", which is less a game on it's own, and more a quick way to semi-randomly pick who goes first.
