  • The 280SL represented the peak of 60s era automotive engineering and design for Mercedes. Alex and Amy's 280SL is one of the last of the "Pagoda" cars and is special in many ways, including the fact that it was one of the first cars to have crumple zones for passenger safety. But will its well-trimmed interior, spectacularly steampunk engine bay, and smooth driving characteristics be enough to give it a prominent rank on the Haugland Score? Join us for this episode of E2E and find out!

I bought one of these in 2003 when i was 28. I had it for about 8 years, it was my only car and i lived in London at the time.
Sadly, i don't have it any more as i sold it before my first child was born and i won't be able to own one again as their prices have shot up since i sold mine.
I have to say, i think you both described this car brilliantly and agreed with most of what you said.
The only thing i would disagree with, and it's a personal view, is that I would give it a 10/10 for style. People used to take photos of it when i was stationary at traffic lights.
It's a thing of beauty and looks great with or without the hard top on (i too think it looks better with the roof on).
Your video has great production quality. Keep up the good work!

Love the Kangol magnetic seat belts, even my $1800 1969 Austin has them.

No way! We hadn't heard that before. That's so cool! Apologies for the very delayed response to your comment, but that's such a great little anecdote for us. Appreciate it!

The bit about the “crumple zones” was real interesting, something I hadn’t thought about. The steps for hard top removal made me giggle a lot. Also “car pushers”. Tee-hee-hee!

SO EASY! Hehe. Do you think that "Find two handsome strapping gentlemen of about equal height" was in the owners manual?
Thanks as always for watching and commenting!!

Thank you so much! I know this comment is a month overdue, but it's always an honor to have you watch these episodes, especially since you know the director so well. ;)

I love the 280sl. My 300sl is also gorgeous, just newer.
    10/10

do like the later Mercedes SLs as well and have a 560SL as part of the collection. Still a bit earlier than your 300SL but they're all great cars.

I had to watch another video to see how the soft top goes up and down. I can't stand a mystery Amy :) It's kind of like my TR6 top but with extra steps.

      @Everyday2Exotic  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Haha! That's a great idea for next time - we can just find an existing video of the top going down and use that! We weren't originally going to take the hardtop off but Alex said we should absolutely film it and so made our plans. It was definitely nervewracking to carry that heavy roof over the top of a beautiful classic, but we made it happen!

Ahahahaha! Though with such a shiny engine bay, I'm sure some of the other engines were just a little jealous

I’ve enjoyed watching car reviews on youtube for years. And the traditional reviews or reviewers are getting stale. I still enjoy them. But I have to say, I love the originality of your videos. The quality of the videos are amazing too! Do you own some kind of video based marking company? Seems like it. You both do a great job. Keep doing what your doing. I love it.

Hey Dave! Gotta say this comment made our day. It's always really encouraging to hear that people like the stuff we're putting out not just because of the cars but rather how we're trying to approach car showcases in a way that feels like we're all just hanging out and having fun. Believe it or not, there's only 4 of us who make these videos - Alex & Amy as the hosts, Joel as the filmmaker/editor, and Bobby as the detailer and chase car driver. The hope would be to expand someday, but we're pretty proud of the foundation we've managed so far with so few! Definitely keep watching and tell your friends to subscribe, it really helps. We have a "Why we're making E2E" video on our channel if you want to see a little behind-the-scenes fun.
Again, thanks so much for commenting, we all appreciate you taking the time to watch and give us your thoughts. If you have any ideas on how we can do this better, please let us know!

@@Everyday2Exotic honestly, keep doing what your doing. Nothing better than being authentic. You both have great fun personalities. And I love how much quirky details you know about your cars. And honestly, it is really fun to see the joy you each have in the videos. The cars are great. The video quality is amazing. The whole production is top notch. Keep up the great work. I will share.
Only thing I’ll add is that I am a fan of any kind of cool car. No matter make or year of production. I personally really enjoy the more modern sports cars. If you guys are into those, it would be real fun seeing you review some modern exotic. But thats just me. Knitting and sitting in a McLaren. That would be cool.

Most of the cars int he collection are older than any of us are, but a few.mire.modern cars have slipped in. The next car is from the 2000s and definitely an unusual exotic car, though in a very different way front he McLaren... The teaser for it should be out Tomorrow! We do have one otherodern exotic from the last decade coming up fairly soon that's filmed already as well so keep an eye out!

Not a criticisms but the music overlay can be quite loud at times. A little jarring.

You're totally right! Come to find out that TH-cam is doing a big normalization pass on our audio which boosted everything like crazy. Figured out how to fix that on our latest episode (the Volvo one that just released). Let us know if that's better to your ears!
