It's weird how I always thought that he needed to be more defensively sound, yet y'all are saying that he needs to attack more. I like his attacking nature, and my opinion may be a sign of my pragmatic nature. I prefer versatility over specialisation.
In my observations, Fermin is essentially a better riqui Puig. One who is better on the ball, and isn't as likely to be bullied physically. Another comparison I can think of is a young Gundogan. But less creative

One thing to keep in mind is that this team has been built ground up with a net spend of around +25m in the last three years (do you realize how insane that is in this market?). Only 2-3 players out of 25 remain from the squad they had in 2020. Of course they're not ready to win CLs yet, but it's a great project that needs patience.

Barcelona already signed Victor Roque as Central Forward backup, Fermin in recent time becoming that box attacking midfielder. In my opinion If everyone is fit, Barcelona is eell covered in CB position with Koinde Araujo, Inigo and Chris. Perhaps CDN and teo full backs are main issue to address. Barcelona is whole different tran with FDJ and Pedri so It's a bit injustice to measures Barcelona in their absence but good news is a well spine have developed ij all position. Need to add quality backups and r and one started CDN

Is not unfair to criticize the squad performance without Pedri and FdJ.... would be unfair if it's criticized without facts. Xavi and the players have to step up, so in the future when any other players are injured, the replacement players can do a similar or better job...but the team and Xavi need time to work and improve with each game. We just need to support them.

For me, I'd say Romeu is prone to errors when played in single pivot but if u r playing him with Frenkie then his play enhances, I think that Gundogan is somewhat similar to Frenkie but he lacks composure on the ball, Honestly speaking, He's over exceeding my expectations but still I want Zubimendi, he'll provide us tactical versatility too
Acc to me, the tactics of Barca is -
Felix is an inside forward, Balde is a wing-back, Yamal is an inverted winger, Pedri/Fermin is an int. midfielder, Gavi is a box to box midfielder, Cancelo is an inverted fullback, Rest Barca builds up with 2 at the back, And Ya I forgot Lewa and Ferran, Lewa is a pure no. 9 and Ferran is too much versatile, Ferran after break up is something else. Although it's too long but still I tried to explain what I understood in detail, Rest the video was great.

Great analysis of the squad and project to date.
We definitely need to further improve our squad depth; particularly the spine, as was pointed out.
We have an interesting La Masia CF prospect (tall, strong, fast, aerial threat), Marc Guiu, that you mentioned was thrown on during a game recently as well as Vitor Roque joining next season. We certainly need a long-term CDM successor. Ideally, someone in his prime. However, La Masia has a couple of prospects that may make their debuts soon. It would be nice if we could land that elite CB.
It is an intriguing project, and Xavi is slowly transitioning away from neophyte to competent/proficient. Remains to be seen if he achieves expert status with us.
I'd like to get your take on Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

Overall great video, I think in terms of successors to busquets in CDM I have very high hopes for Pau Prim, Marc Casado, but the truly special one looks like Marc Bernal. He is 16 years of age already standing at 1.85m, composed versatile and quite dynamic. Lacks an aerial presence at the moment due to being a light weight but he has a the fundamentals down and is already a starter for Barca Athletic. Obviously won’t be a starter from day 1 which means we still need a transition plan, but by the time he is 19,20,21 I think he will be ready provided his trajectory goes to plan. Pau Cubarsi looks like our next great ball playing CB and Darvich looks like a great AM prospect who can play in that right interior position although he is closer to Fermin in terms of profile rather than a controller like Pedri.
Ultimately football moves quickly and there’s no guarantee that all these kids make it big and the opposite is also true, as players come and go and the dynamic of the squad changes the ceiling does too. This is why I really liked you only giving us a two year projection rather than a five year projections cause shit happens😅.
    Anyway really enjoyed this one
    Keep up the good work.

It would be really cool if you could do more manager videos and rate the effectiveness and ceiling of their tactics. Analysis on De Zerbi's Brighton, Postecoglou's Tottenham, Pep's Man City, Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen and Arteta's Arsenal are all decent shouts.
In your past videos you've given Jude Bellingham, Musiala, Camavinga, De Jong and Pedri the potential to be intergenerational players - are there any other players who you would put in that bracket? Wirtz? Haaland? Vinicius? Mbappe? Saka? Alvarez? Saliba? Gvardiol? If you could rank them now, how do you see their career's unfolding, from best to worst?

With a coach such as Xavi the primary decision to be taken is to allow the coach time to settle. The decisions he is taking at present are purely based on emotions. His decisions to play with a very young squad looking only at the talent and not the maturity is a very emotional one. As a coach, taking emotional decisions affects a lot, given the influence the coach has not only with the team but the colleagues as well. Xavi as a player was quite a mature, well seasoned, very experienced player and moulding players to the likes of him takes time and patience. Xavi is only now maturing as a coach, but let us not take away from the fact that he had a huge load to bear as head coach when he took up the job. A team is only as good as its players and Xavi still has a very young group under his disposal. Taking a team from an impressionable heart whole squad to a reliable, well seasoned and experienced group of players takes the prescence of an experienced and compassionate coach who Xavi is turning out to be. Giving him the time to mature as a coach would be key now for barcelona

I'm wondering once Lewandowski is really falling off or leaves the club and Lamine Yamal matures a bit if we can't play Gavi as a false 9. Of course an Mbappe or prime Salah level left winger would be amazing, but Joao Felix is still young and seems to want to stay.

United fan here. Sancho lacks instinct and physicality. He doesn't play well in the 10 position. He thrives on one two's you can't expect him to break low blocks. Plus he's very prone to overthinking. Often prompting to hold on to the ball rather than shooting or passing it. The right wing might be his best position.

@@p-y8210 mate, i have supported dortmund and united for over 20 years now. born in germany and have lived here my entire live. i have watched nearly every game of jadon when he came up from the BVB U21 to the first team in the bundesliga. the kid has all the right attributes to play as an inverted winger / number10. please dont judge him from what hes doing at united. United as a club and as a football institution is an absolute mess. Every decent talent that comes to your club is failing. In regards to what ur saying, that es holding on to the ball too much... thats cause of the system he has to play at United. No overlapping fullbacks for him to release the ball. No proper 9 (besides Martial) that can he can link up play with. If you look at the team in general, theres absolutely no element of ball control / ball retention in that team. At Dortmund he had Reus and Brandt he could play with, around the 16 yard box. At United he has Bruno whos playing whos palying hot potato with the ball. You say he lacks physicality, and i agree with that. But u dont need physicality for the no10 position?? just look at Madison, Ödegaard, Özil... the no10 position is probably the position where u need least physicality. If anything he lacks the physicality, pace and power to play on the wings. For the bundesliga it was enough, but for the prem u need way more directness to play as a winger. In terms of instinct hes probably the mots gifted in the united squad. Also ur ssaying he thrives on 1-2 but cant break low blocks... mate, but thats exactly the way how u break low blocks, so i dent get whats ur point??

@@prajwal_lax Raees and Samson outlined a lot of the reasons so I will not repeat them but for me especially it has been the level of performance vs big teams. This even goes back to the Messi years, where I would watch a random Liga game, see what they were doing and saying this is not going to work in the UCL. This year they got an easy draw so I am still curious as to how Xavi will battle that challenge.
Also, on a tactical and technical level, teams from other countries have caught up now, which means they'd need a talent that is otherwordly to win games and they don't possess it. If they meet Arsenal or City for example, I don't think they'll match that level of physicality, which means that they will loss their ability to control the games to their pace.

dont you think its bit too soon to talk about the ceiling of this team when this team is so young and is legit missing 5 starters?
Pedri, FDJ, healthy Kounde+Araujo+Lewa change this team massively + Roque is coming in january probably
Then you have Gavi, Fermin, Lamine, Balde, Pedri, Roque, heck even Felix and Ferran are super young and are improving every match.
If you ask me, at this moment I would not put Barca on the same level as City, but outside of City, every other team in Europe has looked shaky.
City, PSG, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Bayern, Inter Milan - these teams are the competition in Europe and all of them have looked shaky here and there and none of them have been missing 4-5 starters for majority of the season. For how many can you for certain say they are better? City, Bayern?
Let's see how the season progresses with Barca's best players coming back from injures and if the youngsters can develop further.
Liverpool aren't even in Champions League and Leipzig could be a darkhorse candidate.
And if u ask me, other than City, all other teams will have plenty of issues with Barca, even tho most of them could probably punish the lackluster defending

    • @PythagorasinBoots
      @PythagorasinBoots  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

If you watched the actual video you would see we are discussing the team in the holistic sense even with the injuries in mind and making predictions as to what the key issues will be even when these players are back from injury.
Even with everyone fit, we see holes at CB, CDM and CF which we think could be exploited at business end of UCL. I agree with you that there are a lot of teams with holes at UCL - I think the overall level in europe has declined.
Barca for me could win a UCL in 3-4 years. For them to win it this year, its tough because spine is so important in football and if those key areas are shaky, in the big games that usually is the first part of the side to get exposed. I don't see Bayern as a much superior side.

    • @TheFurymaker
      @TheFurymaker 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'm not saying they will win, just saying we haven't seen them at full strength yet. I disagree they have a hole at CB spots, Araujo/Kounde/Christensen/Inigo are more than capable athletically, tactically and technically. You talked about Kounde being average at dribbling success rate for example - ye, he had 53% last season when he played as a fullback, this season as a CB he has 83%. Araujo had 73% for instance last season with just as many successful dribbles as Kounde - 100% this season but with only 4 full 90s.
Pivot is definitely a problematic position no matter how you spin it and whoever tries to play there, but I can see a potential duo of FDJ-Cancelo (inverted) covering enough holes if Xavi decides to switch up the system a bit with a back 3 with Araujo as RCB to cover up for Cancelo's shortcomings. We saw a bit of this prior to all the injuries + Fermin being so good and dynamic gives such a required profile in that midfield, not to mention he has a long range shot in his arsenal.
Barca are far from perfect, but I do think they can win out against pretty much any side on any given day, but also completely F it up defensively with the hole Cancelo creates if Araujo is not there to make up for it with his insane athletic ability.
Dunno if it's realistic or not, but Barca has to try to do everything to bring Roque in January as well as secure some big pivot prospect like Moscardo or give the opportunity to some of the young guns like Bernal, Prim, Casado who have both legs and ability to play through the press.
As we all thought, Romeu is fine if he has FDJ alongside him and Kounde-Araujo behind him to make up for his lack of pace.
Also I don't think you guys were right when you said FDJ doesn't have legs (you said only fermin and gavi have in that midfield). He can run for days, its just that he lacks either motivation, discipline or concentration in defensive coverage.
Either way, pretty good analysis on current state of Barca, but lets see how they deal with Real Madrid who's going through a transition period just like them.@@PythagorasinBoots

Xavi ball is ass this season one of the most boring unwatchable teams ever. No movement, centerbacks who can’t distribute for fucks or just to scared to. Teams have figured barca out. Barca will never put the ball in behind and every player needs to take 1000 touches before passing the ball. Just watched the cl game look at how silky and quick the opponent moves the ball. Barca looked like they had no tactics or patterns of play. No overlaps, no one twos. Blade was good but so many times should have just released the ball sooner and the field would have opened up. They bought the best striker in the world and loaned the one of the best crossers of the ball but don’t use either of them properly. They badly need de Jong back. Him and Pedri are the only ones who can read the game. Barca are going to need this given they have 0 tactics. Gundogan can somewhat but he’s too slow now.
