Holy shit. I just beat Celeste( main story) for the first time still don't understand what b-sides are if someone wouldn't mind explaining. And i watching parts I've spent hours on getting owned is just mind-blowing the hell out of me. Your crazy if you strive for anymore records i give me condolences man. B side of a level have the same "mechanics" that the level but they are a lot more difficult, in the speed run he makes b side cause it’s shorter so he saves time
Adding on to the other comment, there is an oversight in the game where completing the b side of a level unlocks the next a side, so when the combination of the cassette pickup and b side is faster than the a side it is worth it to do. Doing 5-B saves about 40 seconds I believe and 6-B saves way less closer to 5 or 10 I think

I am a celeste speedrunner (i still need to beat it under 1 hour), but this movement makes me want to quit, but at the same time i still love this game too much to just obanden it

iirc, spikes only kill you if you’re moving towards them, so you can interact with them like normal walls for wall jumps/bounces if you’re positioned right. For the dashes through spikes, it’s a misleading hitbox that has a pixel perfect gap for the player if they perform a crouch dash, which is an extra option that isn’t set on default controls and shrinks Madeline’s hurtbox while dashing.

Has 6B always been faster than 6A for any%? I haven't looked at Celeste speedruns for a while, but I could've sworn that people usually did 6A.
6b saves ~15 seconds over 6a, but doing 6b optimally is much harder than 6a, so it is only really worth going for at the top level
