  • In this video I install some UPVC quadrant beading to a shower tray. This is often the only solution to get a waterproof seal, if the gap between the tiles and the shower tray is too large. This can also be done to the side of a bath, if there is a large gap. This is the second video in the series, how to clean the old silicone off and re-apply new silicone can be seen in this video- • How to reseal a leakin...

    I just used this same system on my bath tub which has a mixer shower tap system. With a screen door (of course the shower screen door leaks ha ha) But the quadrant scotia is a very good double barrier against the bath tub and tiles on the wall. Very good job by the way 👍

    PVC scotia beads also work on vertical corners. Silicon should be put on cut angles before fitting and allowed to squeeze out.
    Use window cleaner fine spay before running Fugi tool along...providing you have a proud continuous silicon bead showing.
    Saves a lot of clean up.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Normally, you do not need beading, but there is a considerable gap between the tray and the tiles in this example, so a PVC bead has been applied to ensure there are no leaks 👍

  • @keitho77

    Great job. The way it should have been done in the first place.
    Is it correct not to silicon the inside of the door/frame to allow water to escape? Only the outside should be siliconed?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, that is correct in all the shower enclosures that I have seen. This enclosure had been sealed on the inside, so I scraped that away when I was doing this job.
      I once spoke to a manufacturer and they said that no matter what you do, the water will always get in somewhere. That's why you only seal the outside of the enclosure, so that the water inside can drain out, into the tray 👍
      Thanks for the comment 👍

      You can but if you do this you can't add any more silicone to low spots because it won't stick. If possible always best to do it dry as shown in the vid then you can always add more.

    Nice job, but I don’t get why you also put sealant in the gap between the tiles & tray. If it’s covered by the angle beading, why not just use spray foam to quickly seal the gap? Especially as it doesn’t shrink like sealant will when used to bridge a large gap.

    However, very good technique shown and a good quality finish

      It's an expedient way of sealing a shower tray or bath perimeter when they have been poorly installed/sealed in the first place. I've had to do this before when the only alternative would be to remove baths. tiles, trays, patch plaster etc. Most insultingly, I have had to do this when I have tendered for work, not got it, then customers call me back to put cock ups right on jobs quoted for but have been given to others. Pay peanuts, get monkeys.
