Hey Zack, the reason Eddie Hall never used legs on overhead is because he had bad patella tendons. Using his legs was hurting his knees, he also said "legs are for squatting, not for pressing" which was pretty funny
@@the_odd_cat553Eddie Hall is far from being the sharpest tool in the shed, even when he talks about working out. He gives a lot bro-scuence advices in his videos.
OHP is a damn good compound exercise . As well as Muscle Clean and Press. A little leg drive is OK works the legs. I switched from Bench 335 to OHP cause of my shoulder pain a yr ago.. No Pain with OHP. Last night I did 185 lb x 3 for work sets and a Pumper of 135 for 14. I'll be 69 in 3 weeks. Only compete against yourself, improve your PRs and keep lifting.
Weightlifting is competing against yourself. Comparison is the theif of joy. Did you do more than you did last time? Then you have won. Especially when you aren't literally being paid to lift for a living. It is that simple.
By the way, I do OHP every push day. It is my favorite lift by far even though I've got long ass arms and my press is relatively weak. That's part of why I love it though.
I can't wait for squats. I've been dealing with a back thing for a while that's got my squat all sorts of weak right now and I need the vicarious squatting.
@@zacktelander Biby is an absolute freak of nature but people can argue his lockouts/etc. for his axle and especially his log WRs. The ease that Eddie just put that up does it for me, he definitely had more in the tank that day
@@zacktelander also it’d be cool to make a part two when the footage from WSM this year comes out, I can’t remember the weights that Tom and Novi were hitting on the presses they were doing were insane
The pressing from behind the neck sitting at the bottom position is the most insane thing here to me. You take a weight that would be a very respectable bench PR at most commercial gyms, and strict press it overhead with the most unholy shoulder joint angles and general instability from being in the bottom of the squat bottom position. I have pretty good shoulder mobility and stability but even thinking about attempting to apply anywhere near that amount of force through those leverages instinctively looks like a guaranteed major snap city one way ticket to me.
A massive overhead press is far more impressive than a massive bench press. The lift is so hard to build. Probably the hardest lift to build up and takes immense overall body power. You have to be strong from head to toe to do a massive overhead press.
@Joske Vermeulen It's really hard to build. It really is one of the lifts most dependent on your physical size as that provides a base for the lift. You might get a quick jump by doing the lift to start with, but once you hit the point where you maxed the easy gains, the gains after that are a huge grind.
@Joske Vermeulen There isn't a way to cheat the strict OHP. I'm not sure what you consider heavy. I'm at 225 and working up from there on OHP. Building up to 225 is pretty easy for me. But pushing to a 300 OHP is difficult. It's taking a lot bracing work to build it up as the entire body must hold in place as you initiate the lift and clear the head.
I see a lot of people do that unrack in front of the chin, and dipping the bar down before pushing. Like... Just use leg drive and make it a push press. No competition that I know of would accept that initial bounce for a strict press anyway.
I really like this dudes channel… I dn if it’s just me but some channels you can tell are just about having a job, but I feel this guy would love to do these videos paycheck or not

klokov has a cool physique, but comparing to folks from Bob Hoffman's old barbel team with john grimek, john davis, Steve stanko, Bill March, Tommy Kono, Norbert Shemansky and the list goes on, I think these old people had a much more pleasant physique, and although all big you can aim for something similar, I believe they were more specialized in the over head press, with different angles and pull over, you can see in the photos of magazines (strength and health) that these old people had another look. there's an old video of john grimek posing ( Unseen Footage of John Grimek and Steve Reeves) .
