Thank you!!!! Through watching your video I have fixed my cuttlebug. So very happy now. 😊 Thought my crafting days were over for a while till I could afford to replace my bug. Youre a life saver ❤
The same problem with the detached gear and screw happened to me just a few minutes ago. I passed a die through successfully, then a few seconds later, the next die just wouldn’t pass through although the handle was turning. I immediately turned to TH-cam and found this video. Sooooo helpful and my 10+ year old Cuttlebug is now working fine again. A few comments on my experience. I agree that you don’t need to fully remove the bottom screws, but on my model, it helped to loosen them, especially on the flat side (not the handle side) in order to remove the cover plate which you can then slide and pry out with a flat screwdriver. In my case, I found the ProvoCraft silver button was just decoration and did not attach the plate to the machine, so didn’t really need to snap it out. Reattaching the gear, washer, and screw was easy. Took a little wrangling to get the plate back on-it had to be positioned just right to snap back in. But thank you so much for this video. It gave me the confidence to go ahead and open up my machine. Another plus was seeing close up how solidly the Cuttlebug is constructed. I see this video is a few years old but it is still helping. Thanks again.
You are sooooo welcome! I'm so glad this helped I was sick thinking what the heck was I going to do. Knowing at the time I couldn't afford another bug. Please thunbs up the video so others can see it. And subscribe I might do something else you find useful. Craft on!😊🤗
Therese! I'm giving you two thumbs up for this tutorial! I fixed my 8 year old Cuttlebug thanks to you! I asked earlier how to remove the "Provo Craft" button but I figured it out, got inside and tightened everything up. It's good as new! Thank you, thank you!
You saved my Cuttlebug's life today, too! Mine was a little different. I had to pop off the side away from the handle then move the green frame aside to get to the gear, but there it was! Just like you said! Thank you very much for helping fellow crafters to resusitate their Cuttlebugs!
Therese, THANK YOU so much for this video! My little wheel fell of inside recently too! I am so thankful that you had this video out there so that I could fix mine. My cuttlebug had hardly been used and when my friend used it last month, it had stopped working. I finally got a hex key set a couple days ago so that I could put the wheel, washer and screw back on. Had I not already found this video prior to the screw/wheel coming off, I would have been "out of sorts" when it was found that the cuttlebug wasn't doing it's job! THANK YOU SO MUCH for your wonderful video and demonstration! :-)
I am so happy to have found this video. I tried calling Cricut and all they gave me was the stacking order. I have had my Cuttlebug since 2004 or there about, so I know how to stack my "sandwich". What happened to me is that it no longer has enough presser to cut out my dies. I have used shims (up to 7) and everything which allowed it to cut in some places but not the whole thing. I had pretty much decided to take it apart (what do I have to lose), when I found your video. I is a great encouragement. I am going to open up my patient and figure it out. I feel the pain you felt with yours.
Today, my very loved and well cared for cuttlebug machine "popped" while I was cutting a wafer thin but intricate die. I was just like you and began searching youtube frantically looking for a solution. Bless you for posting this video! I could hear a loose item inside the case, so I will definitely be taking the little green machine apart and hoping like crazy that it is as simple as a loose screw and gear. fingers crossed! And, thank you for posting this very helpful video!
OMG thank you so much. I have 2 that did this. They are at my craft teachers place waiting for her hubby to look at it. It's been 3 months now, so will get them back and try and fix. I will let you know. Thanks again x
Hi, this is so good of you to put out this video for all crafters to see, I am looking for spare parts for my cuttlebug, unfortunately it is the bearings that have gone on mine and up to now there is no sign of any available on all the sites I have tried, looks like I will have to save up the pennies for a new one, I love this machine, thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing this video. I don't know why I thought to look on You tube for ideas on how to repair it but I came across your video and I have managed to fix it. Bless you.
Theresa I love you. The idea that you wanted to take it apart and fix it I just love, love, love. I think your video is super. I looked at your video because mine is broken too.Unlike you my bug works on cutting dies but only on the outer edges. I have used new plates for the pressure but they don't work. I was lucky enough to get two nice dies for Christmas and am just heartbroken and don't want to return them.I think I know what you would say and that is get yourself a new bug. I love my bug just like you and can't afford to get a new one. Has anyone had this problem? Uneven pressure on the dies? Keep crafting Theresa and thank you.
Hey Linda, what if you used a shim, extra paper in between may help it get a tighter grip. If that makes sense. Try it and let me know if it works. Thanks for watching and don't forget t thumbs up especially if it works. Hugs Therese
Theresa girl you are a life saver!! Talk about perfect timing...mine broke about a week ago and I have been trying to figure out how to afford a new one!! Off to try that with mine...Wish me Luck! I will be back if I can't do it!! Love you So Much Right Now :D
It worked!!!! I got it apart and Yes that sprocket had fallen off! What's up with that..lol. Found the screw down in the bottom...got it all reattached and it is working perfectly now :) Thank you so so much!!
As other's have said you totally saved me!! I have a newer model than yours, it's the Anna Griffin gold one from HSN I purchased oh around 2-3 years ago and I adore this machine. You described my issue completely other than my doors never were stuck open. This model's side is different as it's only a face plate that has Anna Griffin and her logo so I had to use a flat head screwdriver to gently pry that off careful as it has 5 plastic clips molded into it, but once that's off there are just 6 screws that need to be removed. The side is actually one long piece molded to be the handle as well as the sides. I was able to shift this piece aside carefully and replace the same 3 pieces as you. So if anyone reads this with a newer machine having this trouble it can be fixed! THANK YOU again your a goddess!!!❤❤❤
Thank you so much Theresa! I was so upset thinking I would need to buy another Cuttlebug then I found your video. Mine had the exact same problem as yours and in less than 10 minutes I was able to fix it! Thank you for sharing :)))
Hey Jackie, I'm so very glad I could help. Glad you was able to fix yours. Believe me I know the feeling. I'm telling you when it happen to me, I was in tears. I didn't have the money to get another one and was just sick with worry. When realize there was no videos, I had to post this.. Now we can craft on!:-)
I'm impressed that you're innovative and a Ms. Fix-it. Waaaayyyyy to go! When mine broke I called Provo Craft in Utah. They sent me a return shipping label and a new machine when they received mine.
I'm not sure what is going on with mine, but I know how to take it apart and at least look. The handle still seems to move the rollers, but it's like there wasn't enough pressure to cut with the dies and now the plates aren't going through at all. If I have the same problem, at least I know what to do with that now. I was kind of laughing about how you said you got so upset, but hey - I'm upset too, lol! I think I'm going to let the hubby go at it and do the fix. I don't hear anything rattling and nothing has come out of it (like a screw). I just can't cut with it or get it to pull the plates in. Thank you for making this video. Otherwise I wouldn't have known repair was possible. I'm glad your Cuddlebug is working for you now. Hubby will likely say, "and I should care because..............?" just to hassle me about it. Hopefully I didn't do anything worse with it.
Marian,I'm so glad YOU enjoyed, and found the video helpful. I really thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, and thumbing up the video. It's people like you that helps with motivation. Thanks a bunch of roses!
Connie you are so lucky to fixed yours, Mine was unfixable as the metal holding the rollers together broke apart from the constant pressure. Just wanted to say I enjoyed your video, your a legend! Thank you for informing and entertaining. Coralee Buckland
thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mine went tonight and I was just about to use it, all I did was put the plates on and something fell off, and it rattled inside. like yours. so I took the disc off too but couldn't get anywhere till I watched your video. the sidewouldnt come off so I had to get a flat screwdriver and lever it off but all the bits were there, the cogg, washer and screw. so just like you, I screwed it back on and its working great now. thank you so much for posting as I would not of had the courage to lever off the side. happy crafting!!!!!!!
Hi Katie, so glad,I could help! Please help me,by sharing this video and thumbing up the video. I appreciate you taking the the time to comment. Craft on!!!!!!!
My "bug" just broke! After all my "disturbances" left so that I felt free to do some creativity, I didn't know what to do, I started crying--thought to search you tube to see if someone else had the same problem. My "bug" was made a little different, but finally got inside to find the same problem you had. Went in and fixed it. Blessed that you showed how to fix it. Thanks So Much, Jean
Your nail polish is cool. I had just fixed my cuddle bug as well and was looking to see if there were any videos. Thanks to God for giving us A confident spirit to figure it out on our own. If it happens again you can put some Loctite on the screw to keep it from coming off. Mine became very difficult to turn, the bottom gear had worked its way out a little putting off the linkage. I sprayed with some WD-40 or you could use mechanics Grease to prevent grinding and wear. Have a blessed day!
Therese, that same thing happened to me just one month after I had purchased it. I took it back and the husband of the shop owner had fixed another one with the same problem. The recommendation is that you only wind it one way and not go back and forth with it. I was devestated when it 'broke' but since being fixed I have had no problem at all and that was a few years ago. Thanks for showing how easy it is to fix it - if it ever happens again I can fix it myself. Yay for woman power (and the gent who fixed mine).
That's exactly what I did.. Tried it the other way. Funny how I never do that but had to much on my desk. Thank you. Stared me for a min. But fixing it made me feel sooooooooo much better. Glad video will help others. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
WooHoo!! So happy for you that you were able to fix it!! And you are an absolute angel for sharing your solution with all of us!! Thanks so much for taking the time...You are the best!! XoXo
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH for this video. My 'bug' just popped on me and then obviously quit working. I immediately started searching for others with this problem and came across your video....it is a lifesaver :) Thanks again for sharing...and what the heck did we do before the internet????
Sandra Brewer Sandra, I am soooooo happy this helped you. when mines popped, my heart just sink. I couldn't buy one at the time and felt so sick. Like what the heck am I going to do! I also did a search and found nothing, So glad this helped. I hope you subbed to me. You might see something else you like. Hugs Therese
Know how you feel about it not working, Mine must be 15 years old and I've used it like crazy. Wish they still made as I'd buy another. Glad to know about that cap. Mine did break one of the 4 places that hold it in when I removed. But my gear is OK. For some reason, it just won't run my dies through. Thanks for putting this on here.
HALLA-LULA. After I threw mine across the room cause it stopped turning and pouted and viewed what new machine I was going to purchase I just happened to put in search Cuttlebug handel broken. And there you were . I was in your shoes crying. Well the Anna Griffith Model is more complicated with more screws. They must have seen your video and decided to make it alittle more challenging. Oh-NO not me I said. If this chick can do it so can I. Popped the sides off with a thin sturdy knife. And low and behold there was that little wheel caught on the inside bottom of carriage. Snatched that little bugger put it back on. I didnt even put the sides back on. Put the handle on. Works like new. Im leaving it stripped down. To many screws. Thank you thank you thank you
+terry roe Lol,Terry, you are too funny! Let me tell you you, just don't know how my heart dropped!!!! I can't/ couldn't go out and just buy another one. That's,when I realized, there might be someone this could help, who's like me. I'm so very glad this helped. Please subscribe, thumbs up,and share this video. It helps all of us! And,makes me happy. Thank you, hugs Therese
I just came across your video and want to say thank you so much for sharing. My cuttlebug hasn't broken but I use it so much that sometimes I worry about what I would do. Especially since I have the original not one of the V2 ones and I really don't like the new handle that they have now.
Sault2,I'm so glad you found this video helpful.I hope you don't have to use it,but it's here if you happen to need it.Please, subscribe to me.So you don't miss another video. I might do something else you find helpful. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, and thumbs up.It really means a lot knowing I helped someone in any way.😁 Hugs,Therese
Hey Lady! I just found this video. My cuttelbug is fine, but I was curious so I decided to watch your video. WAY TO GO! How is your cuttlebug now?? And yes, I completely feel your pain as I've had a similar experience (tool breaking) when I needed it.
jynclr Thank you sooooooo much. Yes,it's still works. I still haven't had to buy another one yet. Knock on wood! 😁😁😁 Thanks for watching, and commenting.😍
You are sooooooo, welcome! I'm so happy, this worked for you. Just saved some money ,that could be well used some place else. Thanks so much for watching. Don't forget to thumbs it up, if you didn't. Have a great crafty day!
Where can I buy a replacement gear from? Looking on the internet all I get is the embossing gear folder. I cannot seem to find an address/email/phone number for ProvoCraft. Help please! x x
Irma, I am so happy this video helped you!!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍. You really brings a smile to my face knowing that this video has been helpful. +Onemotherandonedaughter Therese Oh Therese, i was so excited watching your video, to find out that i had the same problem as you was making me feel hopeful that mine will be working again. mine is the v2 cuttlebug so i had to find out how to open it from someone else but you were the one who made me think that i didnt have to throw mine out and basically for a second i thought my hobby in card making was over ha ha ha. Its funny now but i was almost crying, i know it's only a cuttlebug but i didnt have money to purchase another one. Anyway, thx a million once again, have a wonderful day.
Awwww!!!! I can so relate, because I did cry. Then I got myself together, wiped my tears. And tried to see if I could fix it.I mean, girl,I was in tears!! I didn't want no one to talk to me,I needed some time alone. But,through all that,it all came together.I was so thankful I fixed it.because I too, couldn't afford to buy another one. It's still worldi to this day. And,I'm sooooo glad,my video helped you. Big hugs right back, and big smiles Therese
Our CuttleBug gradually became stiffer to turn to the point it was impossible to turn the handle. Having seen this video, I took ours apart and found that with the top cog removed, the rollers were free to move. Turned out all it needed was lubricating. A small drop of machine oil and it is free to turn again.
Thanks for sharing your video, it does help BUT since I have a different model Cuddlebug I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get to make the rollers roll again. I also love my Cuddlebug but um struggling when it doesn't roll. Any ideas, mine does NOT open like yours.
Just broke my Big Shot yesterday, and I am looking for ideas on how I might repair it. You give me hope. I am going to open it up and see what is wrong. Sizzix sent me instructions on how to repair several things, but I have to determine what isn't working. thanks for your help.
My handle wont turn right...i did buy it second hand and img fell in love with it...i dont make cards or.crafts but omg im fiend now...and worried about that handle problem! Bte..i been making those rosettes or cockades as they are traditionally called..
Hello, Therese can you tell me how to take off the silver button that says "Provo Craft"? You didn't mention how to remove it and I was just wondering do I just pry it off or screw it off? Your video is very helpful. I hear something that came loose like yours. I just don't know how to open the side of the Cuttlebug like you did. Thank you in advance!
Hey Hun, I believe I just used a butter knife and popped it off. Once I did that the side came off I had to watch the video again, myself. But,yes I just popped off that little piece. Hope that helps.😊
Therese I added another comment above on how I pried off the button and got into the machine. Tightened everything up and it's good as new! It's even quieter now. I'm so happy!
I'm so glad I could help. Please consider giving me a thumbs up. Thanks for the extra comment. I'm sure it might be helpful to anyone using the same problem. More importantly,I'm glad my problem helped you fix your!😁
hello. Just want to ask, my cuttlebug handle suddenly cannot roll last night. its kinda stuck. could you give me some suggestions or guides on how to fix it..?
raiee86 Maybe there is something stuck in it,that's making it not turn. Have you tried picking it up and shaking it. turn it and shake it. Maybe something came loose and is stuck, making it not turn. also try turning it the opposite way. If you hear something loose, open it up and see where it came from, put it back where it came from. I hope this helps. Please let me know if it does. Thank you,for stopping by.😉
Your video is fantastic thank u for sharing mine doesn't cut when I put the dies on but have checked the same as you have u any idea what could be wrong with mine pls
shake it? Do you hear anything moving around? If something is loose. But sometimes the gears loosen up. Try opening it and tighten up everything. If that didn't work use a paper sham to the sandwich until it cuts. Hope this helps. Please don't forget thumbs up. Thank you!
my issue is that the side without the handle flew off when i was putting the plates through, I checked, everything is in place, but theres no resistance when i put my plates through now
Out of ALL the trillions...yes trillions of videos there are only 2 on this problem....evidently its common as heck and usually falls out and gets lost in clutter we all have.
hi, i have same problem, mine isn't rolling anymore :( i don't know how to remove the handle (not the handle that rolls), I cannot open it the way you did
I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply,I didn't see this message. Just start taking out the screws. You will also need a flat head screw driver. Stick it in side and pop it off. Hope this helps, please let me know. If so please thumbs up my video. It helps me out. Thanks a bunch. Hugs Therese
great vid , you should re name it 'how to fix your cuttlebug' then when ladies search for a video if theirs breaks they will find your helpful film xxxxx
The Cricut can cut but not emboss. And let's say you want to cut something like foam. Having dies makes it easier.. The Cricut which I love, does cut a lot of things but you really need both to do more. I have 5 Cricuts ,I need to sell a few I just keep thinking that as soon as I do, one will break. And I will be without one., having to buy another.
My cuttlebugs bottom roller dips on the one side and I have no idea how to fix it 😢 it like dips on the one side and sometimes comes up but not enough to work properly
Sounds like my problem. I've been taking out all the screws I can! When I removed the ones under the handle (fiddly, you need to just use the loose screwdriver head that goes in one of those multi screwdrivers), the top roller became more floppy so I guess those are the ones to adjust. I'm doing I now. Fingers crossed!
I just checked my Cuttlebug and it doesn't look like yours, the handle and sides are all one piece, so I hope it doesn't break. I did like the comment about only running your plates one way, I see a lot of videos that run them back and forth.
+Kathie Bendinelli is it Anna Griffin? Yes it will. They want you to think that. You probably have another by now but if you still have it slip a thin strong knife to pop the sides. Got mine fixed in a jiffy.
To those of you seeing this video for the first time, I purchased a HEX key set from the Tractor Supply store a couple days ago for around $6. The screw that holds the wheel on takes a 3/32 HEX KEY. Hopefully that helps anyone who sees this in the near future and needs to know what it takes to put that screw back on! ;-)
I don't care how you feel about this video. I'm not going to make another video, just for you. No one else seems to have a problem. You obviously came because your machine is broke. Just go but a new one! Or make your own, damn video!!!!! Stop being a jerk, maybe you can get something done!
read the comments on the Cuttlebug FB page. Was trying to be helpful with what videos you do in the future. Happy Holidays....I bought a new Cuttlebug for my birthday! Will use my old one as a book end...nice and heavy! Read my comments left for other videographers, I will leave positive comments on the quality of the dissolves if used, clarity and preciseness.
Thank you!!!! Through watching your video I have fixed my cuttlebug. So very happy now. 😊 Thought my crafting days were over for a while till I could afford to replace my bug. Youre a life saver ❤

I am having the exact same problem. Would you share what you did to fix it or was your husband able to fix it?
my email is missugrbear7@gmail.com
Thanks for sharing! You're very kind!!! I have a cuttlebug and I'll keep your video in mind in case it breaks. THANK YOU!
Marian,I'm so glad YOU enjoyed, and found the video helpful. I really thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, and thumbing up the video. It's people like you that helps with motivation. Thanks a bunch of roses!
:) thanks to you again!!!
Brenda,I am so happy for you. Yeahhhhhhh! So glad I was here to help.
That's so scary!!!! Glad you got it fixed!
I know right! I really did cry. Lol!
+Ruth Burr Thank you for the recommendation of only winding one way. That really makes since.
I am so impressed you figured out how to fix it you go girl!
Thank you. First I cried then realized I better try to do something or i'm out of luck. Lol!
Thank you for the video, I have my Cuttlebug fixed!
WooHoo!! So happy for you that you were able to fix it!! And you are an absolute angel for sharing your solution with all of us!! Thanks so much for taking the time...You are the best!! XoXo
Thank you soooooo much. I'm so glad to help others
Hugs
Therese
Thank you for the info you will help many people with this problem.. You are so smart!
Thank you thank you thank you
+terry roe Yes I did throw it across the room. On carpet maybe thats what saved it. Shows its sturdy.
Thank you,hugs
Therese
I just came across your video and want to say thank you so much for sharing. My cuttlebug hasn't broken but I use it so much that sometimes I worry about what I would do. Especially since I have the original not one of the V2 ones and I really don't like the new handle that they have now.

Oh Therese, i was so excited watching your video, to find out that i had the same problem as you was making me feel hopeful that mine will be working again. mine is the v2 cuttlebug so i had to find out how to open it from someone else but you were the one who made me think that i didnt have to throw mine out and basically for a second i thought my hobby in card making was over ha ha ha.
Big hugs right back, and big smiles
Therese
Wow! I am so glad that you were able to fix it! I felt your pain! Thank you for sharing the solution! :-)
Tracy
Thank you ,for watching. In glad too.
I pinned you in my cuddlebug stuff. Thank you for sharing.
Question. When you move the rollers, does that make the handle move?
Thank you for the video it is a great help :)
Hello there,
how did you pop the disk off???
Very informative video.
More importantly,I'm glad my problem helped you fix your!😁
Therese I'd give you TWO thumbs up! :)
Thank you!
my issue is that the side without the handle flew off when i was putting the plates through, I checked, everything is in place, but theres no resistance when i put my plates through now
Shake it , do you hear anything moving around?
Thanks your video helped to fix mine too :-)
Happy to help, Max.
Out of ALL the trillions...yes trillions of videos there are only 2 on this problem....evidently its common as heck and usually falls out and gets lost in clutter we all have.
Hope you got an Allen wrench and phillips screw driver.
hi, i have same problem, mine isn't rolling anymore :( i don't know how to remove the handle (not the handle that rolls), I cannot open it the way you did
I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply,I didn't see this message. Just start taking out the screws. You will also need a flat head screw driver. Stick it in side and pop it off. Hope this helps, please let me know. If so please thumbs up my video. It helps me out. Thanks a bunch. Hugs
Therese
Thank you so much for this video….
great vid , you should re name it 'how to fix your cuttlebug' then when ladies search for a video if theirs breaks they will find your helpful film xxxxx
Great idea, thank you!
If you have circut why do you need cuttlebug. Can't the circut cut the thing you need out?
The Cricut can cut but not emboss. And let's say you want to cut something like foam. Having dies makes it easier.. The Cricut which I love, does cut a lot of things but you really need both to do more. I have 5 Cricuts ,I need to sell a few I just keep thinking that as soon as I do, one will break. And I will be without one., having to buy another.
Onemotherandonedaughter Therese thank you
You are one smart cookie ! Can you come over and fix my ice maker ??
Love and Hugs, Sharon
I'm on my way! Loll
Still have my bug, but also have a Grand Calibur that I use for the thin dies.
Very helpful, but it's like pulling teeth. Could be done in 2 mins
Lol,I'm sorry, did I miss your video on the topic!
Mine just broke and I cant remove the cover 😭 helppppp
Did you try both sides?
I th k I am going to have to pull mine apart as well. Thanks for the info.
To those of you seeing this video for the first time, I purchased a HEX key set from the Tractor Supply store a couple days ago for around $6. The screw that holds the wheel on takes a 3/32 HEX KEY. Hopefully that helps anyone who sees this in the near future and needs to know what it takes to put that screw back on! ;-)
my broke, cricut sending me another one. i don't take things apart
4 minutes into the video and still no fix...way too WORDY. Get precise with you instruction. Gave up watching...
I don't care how you feel about this video. I'm not going to make another video, just for you. No one else seems to have a problem. You obviously came because your machine is broke. Just go but a new one! Or make your own, damn video!!!!! Stop being a jerk, maybe you can get something done!
@@OnemotherandonedaughterTherese
read the comments on the Cuttlebug FB page.
