    For such a nice guy, Geoff can sure play a scary bad guy perfectly.

    This is incredible. The robed figure is Tony who used to be in Voiceplay. Him and Layne run the studio together so he was handily on set when they needed an extra character.

    The guys also feel Frollo is a scumbag and poor Geoff really didn't like having to play that part, but he, as always, gave it his best and rocked it! In the behind the scenes for this it was Geoff who thought of asking Tony to step in as the guard, the pure delight on Geoff's face, and the laughter from Layne as Geoff suggested it. It was just adorable. Tony obviously obliged and did a great job. Would love to see him as a guest, I miss his voice in VoicePlay. I get to hear him some as a Patreon of Pattycake Productions, but always want more. Speaking of Pattycake, you should check out their Villain's Lair series, I think you'd like it. And I would love to hear your thoughts on top 10 Villians, I think most people would put the scumbag at the top.

    Outstanding cover and great reaction. Loved the surprise at the beginning when you flashed on what the song was. Jeff's eyes at the end truly reflected the madness of his character. So creepy! When you give this a second listen be sure to catch Cesar's air guitar riff in the background at 6:50.

    Geoff makes Father Frollo from the Hunchback of Notre Dame an even more menacing and frightening evil villain.
    EPIC

  • @janetdw
    @janetdw ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Frollo tries to justify his desire saying that it’s not his fault, and those are the parts primarily sung by Eli, J, and Cesar. The choral parts and hint of bells are a nod to his being in the church.
    But the evil malicious part of Frollo is primarily Geoff’s part. The music is powerful, beautiful and disturbing. I’ve always had mixed feelings because Frollo just epitomizes twisted evil to me. But there’s no denying that this is brilliant! 🔥🔥🔥🔥. It gives me chills every time I hear it.
    They did do an ACA Top 10 of Disney villains years ago and Frollo is in it. I had never watched the movie, and that’s what led me to watch it. I find myself listening to music I wouldn’t normally because of these guys, but I think that’s the first time I’ve watched a movie because of something they did.

    Loved that you commented on the beatboxing. I think that even if Geoff has clearly the lead in this song, and does an outstanding job, Layne is crucial for the massive effect of the song. He always is good, but I think that this is the song in which he so far had the hardest job. All the effects he did to keep up the tension were incredibly complex (or so they seemed to me at least) and on the spot. Truly amazing.

    Fabulous drama. Whether it's Cesar going baritone or Geoff going tenor, their reach is power. Yes, the character is a black-hearted hypocrite; there's no pretending that isn't still a common evil. I love that they decided to do this.

    In the BTS Geoff and Layne were talking about who was going to do that part. A few ideas came up. Then....
    Geoff: Hey Tony,. What ya doing?
    Tony: Me?
    Next shot he had the robe on putting on rings. 😂

    Love your analysis of Frollo! He definitely is an arrogant scumbag, and he's also an absolutely shit Christian. Right in the very opening even before things got heavy, he gave himself away by bragging about his own virtue, which the Bible explicitly warns one should never do. And because he never put anything into his faith, just treating it as a thing to be used for his purposes like everyone and everything else, it failed him the moment he really needed it. He was bound for that fire long before he saw Esmerelda. Geoff and the other guys almost make him sound a little too sympathetic here, but the performance was so sublime I think we can forgive them that 😉

    Fun reaction! Given your comments on Frollo's attitude, I wonder if you would enjoy Blackbriar: _Weakness_ _and_ _Lust._ Not the usual fare on this channel, but the lyrics are made up of the things men have said about women through the centuries to justify their own issues, not least in the Malleus Maleficarum (used to condemn witches). Just a thought!

    I've always felt like J None, Eli and Cesar were differing parts of Frollo's personality. J None prays to Maria to protect him, Eli showed the black and white sides, Cesar was blaming God. Frollo is truly a despicable villain. This role that Geoff takes is evil, mesmerizing, and utterly unforgettable.

    This is pretty old song ( The song was originally titled "Farewell Song" in a songbook by Burnett dated to around 1913. A version recorded by Emry Arthur in 1928 gave the song its current titles. ) it has been covered by many. but was made famous in the movie " Oh Brother Where Art Thou". If there is a particular type of music you'd like to hear they have probably done at least one song that way. Thanks for the Home Free reactions. I can't wait for you to see more of their variety.

    I've never seen the Disney movie, only the 1923 silent B&W starring Lon Chaney; however, I do like the song and they sound so good singing it. For another 'fire' song, you might like Home Free's original "Playing With Fire" (it's sultry; however, it isn't misogynistic). Great reaction to a great song!

    Frolo is either the most despicable, or maybe insidious, villain. He acts from a false sense of righteousness, but is essentially just a lecherous person with entitlement and power. He openly admits he'd burn a city just to own a person he's attracted to (ie he wants to possess her as a sexual object). Yeah, he's pretty gross as a villain.

    • @1MannzOpinion

    • @stratusmind
      @stratusmind 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would like to somewhat amend my statement here. Within the music, there's a shift from major keys to minor, etc, that reveals that this character starts out proudly proclaiming his righteousness, but, after the minor keys come in, he admits that this desire isnt worthy of a religious man, but later on, he attributes his personal failings to her. IE, his having sinful thoughts is her fault. With this Addition, I would like to say that this, too, is found in a lot of modern religious apologetic discourse. It focuses the onus of sin away from the person sinning toward the object of their desire, thus shifting the blame from the person who is lustful, in this case, toward the object of that lust. The overall impression of his hypocrisy is the same though. He thinks of himself as a godly person, who is tempted, thus the temptation is to be blamed on another.
