    I purchase $1 shower caps to slide over my feet if I have to remove my shoes at security. You can walk through the nastiness and toss them. I have better-quality washable shower caps to cover the bottoms of my shoes. This keeps the insides of my shoe bags clean. You could also purchase a $1 window/door alarm to tape to the inside of a hotel door if you didn't want to purchase the more expensive ones that hang on the door handle.

      I just take a cheap plastic/rubber door stopper. Jam it under the door and no one can open it.

    What I love most about your channel is that you truly get to travel and dictate how you live instead of just flowing with societal norms or familial expectations. I am willing to bet that travel has opened up your mind to new ideas, outlooks, and perspectives that only traveling abroad can bring! What you are doing is very admirable and inspires me to take risks I wouldn't consider otherwise.

    The large ziplock bag idea sounds very useful! Much better than having my dirty clothes and clean clothes all mixed together haha. For liquids I like to save my old small containers from creams and stuff to reuse for things like shampoo, facewash, etc

    I used to use the straw trick for my necklaces but now I use plastic wrap and I will never go back. It’s especially useful when you have long necklaces. I unclasp it, lay the chain in a single layer with the clasps sticking out the top, roll it up and reclasp it. Works great!
    If you’re needing to travel especially light, you can roll a few in one sheet, gently coil them and put them in a pouch.

    I take laundry detergent in a small bottle and I put that in a 2 gallon bag roll it all up and put in my suitcase. On vacation if I need to wash delicates or a couple items I put laundry detergent in the 2 gallon bag and a couple gallons of water, add my clothes, add more water if needed. I zip the bag almost shut, squeeze out all the air I can and finish zipping the bag shut. I shake the bag (in the tub or shower) or move the bag in a way to move the clothes around so they wash. I rinse the bag out, dry it with a towel and I let the bag air dry, when the bag is dry I put the detergent back in the bag, I roll the bag up and put it back in my suitcase.

    I buy a small packet of night time cold medicine capsules from the dollar store to use as a sleep aid for long overnight flights. A small rubber band (elastic) is also an effective way to keep the plastic cap on razors. I put the zip ties on my luggage on backwards so I can easily remove them (and also reuse them) when I arrive at my destination. They are still effective that way (inside out) as a closure and a deterrent. Thanks for another fun video. Cheers.

    Over the years I’ve collected many free travel or sample size containers from Sephora or my pharmacy. I refill them with my regular skincare, small jewelry, meds, etc. The Go Toob are amazingly well made and never spill. I love your idea of the Ziplock in the seat pouch, another new tip! Thanks Megan!

    We also use the small medicine/pill baggies for liquids such as neosporin, eye cream, etc. They hold small portions, are very inexpensive, fit easily in the liquids bag and are disposable.

    Practical tips as always.I am trying to convince my daughter to only go carry on for vacations so for Christmas gave her those liquid tubes you featured from Dollarama plus a set of small containers for all the liquids she needs. Avoid checked baggage if possible is my advise. Till now she always packs big shampoo containers etc. in checked baggage.

    There are some SERIOUSLY good tricks in this video that I never would have thought of .. Thank you! (I will try the balloons, not just for myself but packing small bottles of liniments and lotions for horses, too. I have had more "nice smelling" tack bags with spilled things in the bottom than I should admit.)
    When I saw the thumbnail with Dollarama and Dollar Tree written on it I was eager to watch to see how you say the word "Dollarama".... loved it.
    Thanks again!

    Finally found your dollar tree hacks! I found few cute items the other day like eye mask, toiletry containers, shower caps for shoes, suit cover, and travel size tubes. I got set three cute containers with colored lids. I use bear claws on things like chip bags. . I got lufa that put soap on and hang to dry. I’d recommend laundry mesh bag for your dirty clothes or black trash bag if driving.

    I found a cheaper ziplock bag company I use as my toiletries bags on 1 bag business trips. I use toothpaste in clean contact lens covers & Listerine Strips as mouth wash. I rely on hotel toiletries & a high quality disposable razor. If I take a suit pack I look at what I need for the few days with shorts & 2 tee shirts to laze about it. I see deodorant sticks in the discount shops that will do just fine. I like the one bag domestic travel when I am off with work as I have learned to take less after packing smarter.

    Interesting and very useful tips! Personally, i tend to pick up my dollar store items After I get to the destination to prevent issues with TSA. But of course it's more convenient and cost effective to take your approach. I like to pick up skin cream which can double for shaving in a pinch until you can get some.

    • @PortableProfessional

    Speaking of liquids, to be more specific: those small bottles of brandy help a lot in long flights, and gatorade too, they are both essential, gatirade gives energy as well quenches thirst for quite a while, it is essential as some if not all of the airlines have water tanks on their planes that are not cleaned often.

    • @PortableProfessional
      @PortableProfessional  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yikes, I hear this a lot about the water on planes.... Thank you for sharing!

    • @u_t_d_s_h-1_a
      @u_t_d_s_h-1_a 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PortableProfessional it is correct, a sip of gatorade goes a long way quenching one's thirst, even a small bottle of it would do, and as for brandy, it relaxes the nerves on long flights, ---all this is assuming the airline allows it.

    Portable Professional - Zip ties are very useful for travel; they just have limitations. I hate to burst your bubble, but zip ties and small luggage locks only discourage casual thieves. Zip ties can be defeated with TSA approved devices, such as nail clippers. Professional thieves will bypass sliders all together by separating the teeth of the zipper with a ball point pen or awl/center punch. If they are discreet, they reclose the bag by sliding both the zip tied zipper sliders back across the opening and so you only discover the theft later. I saw customs inspector do this very trick on a locked suitcase. The traveler was mildly drunk from the flight and was acting superior about how the bag was locked so the inspector wasn't going to open it without permission. Using a punch awl, the inspector had the bag open so fast you would think it had never been locked.

    I use a Dollar Tree round pill holder for my earrings when I travel. You have to make sure you get one with strong closing grip though so it doesn't open on you.

    QUESTION: When traveling, once you reach your destination...how do you cut open the zip ties? Do you rely on the hotel to lend you a pair of pliers?

    • @ramblinman787
      @ramblinman787 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have been using them this way for ten years. China used to cut locks off. Take the nail clippers from your carry on and cut them off. I also use bright colored ties, so I know they are mine.

    When using the better quality zip ties they are pretty hard to pull apart like with cheap ties. What would you suggest to CUT a zip tie. TSA does not allow sharp objects on Carry On bags. Thank you for the Helpful Travel video's.

    One extra suggestion on zipties, don't just use it on one line of the zippers, because there is a way to open de zipper with something sharp and then you can move de head of the zipper on top of that and it looks like it was never opened. So try to attached two or more zippers together in a way that you cannot move either of them since they are attached to the others
