Thank You for being brave enough and curious enough to do what most would not attempt until after they verified someone was able to do it successfully! You are the guinea pig who risks it all for our benefit. Because you are so giving I will pass on a bit of advice - You should call Volvo and tell them your steering wheel is in the wrong side! Thanks again for your efforts!
Great video, with one suggestion. As per Murphy- the great the number of screws and covers replaced before testing, the more likely testing will fail, thus necessitating their removal again to access and correct the fault. Whenever possible, always test BEFORE reassembling.
Fantastic! Wonderful. You're quite fine (love your verbal approach). We're all anxious when it comes to making changes/repairs on our Volvo. Because nobody wants to pay Dealership prices.
You by chance have a copy of the manual? I'm literally in the middle of the install when I realized they've upgraded their kit without the replacement loom. Instead, they have 4 wires and they don't say where to plug them in.
Brilliant resource - used this as a guide to fit a volvotech camera to a 2016 XC60 yesterday/today. Mega brownie points from the wife. Found there wasn’t much space behind those footwell panels for the control unit...ended up on passenger side and much closer to the bulkhead than in your vid.
Hey thanks much for showing how to remove those panels at 51 minutes. They were rattling on my 2015, all fixed now. And no broken tabs. Thanks!! FYI I had to use a screwdriver to help pry out the tabs; when you pull down on the outer panel, it pulls the mating plastic piece with it.
Thanks a lot for this video. I have now purchased this kit (except for the front camera unit) to my XC70. However, I have not monted it yet, because Volvotech did not provide any mounting instructions. Only an illustration on how the VBB8 should be connected. They do not have the manual available for download either, so I have contacted them for help, but thay have not yet responded.I did found mounting instructions for Volvo's reverse camera, so at least that will give me a hint on how to remove all interior panels.
You ever get the instructions? Any chance you could send to me? I'm stuck in same situation you were in - they seem to have upgraded the kit since the video was made so it no longer involved a replacement loom but instead a set of red/brown/gray/blue wires
Hi Rob, I wish I could. Sadly the main units are no longer available from the supplier I used. Do have a read through the other comments as others have posted links to very similar looking products that should, in theory, work in an identical way. They said, I can’t recommend them, as I haven’t tried the alternative models.
Great video, I have 2018 XC60 with a failed reverse camera so just have to replace it, can this be done by just removing the handle and reg light assembly unplug and plug in? TIA
Hi Nick, That's really good. I haven't thought that it will be so easy. I have a volvo V60 model which does not have RSI (road sign information) feature, as front camera is not there. Can you also make a video for RSI intallation in the same way if possible ?
Hi Rajat, I'm sorry, my technical abilities definitely don't stretch that far! My RSI works with the existing cams / sensors installed on the windscreen. I also have adaptive cruise on my car, so perhaps it's picked up by the cameras and kit associated with that? Definitely not related to my front grill camera though. Sorry not be be of further help.
Hi great video I searched Volvo tech but seems like it does not exist anymore. I have a 2016 V60 and would like to try something like this any alternatives?
Quick tip for right side panel removal. This panel isn’t any easier to remove, nor less brittle, over time. I had to peel out the forward edge a bit, and compress the carpet behind it, to spray pure silicone lubricant in behind the panel onto the panel’s forward friction fit fastener and only then the panel pulled right out with no damage. The metal fastener fell off the back of the panel, but easily fixed with pliers, or replaced for $1.
Hi a quick question if you could help I've got a v60 d6 2015 with the sensus unit. I've checked on ebay and there some reverse cam kits for sal which say plug and play if you have the sensus kit. Did you have a look at that before you bought from Volvo tech? Would these work or not? Thanks mate
I've seen them to but I ordered my from volvo tech. Down side of it is price 449 pounds however when I get problems with instalation on my s60 just emailed volvotech guys and they were more than happy to help me resolve the issues
Great video, well done. Pity I didn't find this sooner as I would've been confident enough to do it myself; unfortunately though, I'm booked in with an independent specialist tomorrow morning to fit front and rear cameras to my XC70.
I actually paid for someone to fit an Alpine CarPlay unit in my old 2009 model XC60. It is a bit scary pulling apart your car, but I saved a lot of money doing it myself. Perhaps next time! It always comes down to time. I think anything is possible if you have enough time… 😊👍
@@1308SPAZZ mine didn’t, no. They took the centre console apart and it turned out that the ‘front face’ of my media system was the new version but the unit itself and the display screen were the old version and so, the kit they had wouldn’t work. I then asked the main dealer about it (I was never going to pay their price anyway!) and basically, they couldn’t give me an answer but wouldn’t want to do the job anyway! My XC70 is a bit crossover P2/P3 (parts-wise) even though it’s a MY 2014 P3. I’ve been told that there are some V70’s that are the same.
Hi Nick, Many thanks for great project. I am putting a rear-view camera on my V40 2017 and struggle to remove the boot panel behind the lights, two screws to the floor removed and some movement but held firmly about the seal of the boot opening. The camera/lights are on the main bodywork. I would appreciate the benefit of any ideas you may on the matter.
I don’t see why not? Obviously the procedure will be very similar to this, I’m just not sure what interface you would need to get it working on the screen
@@NicksProjectsUK Thanks for your reply. My only issue is, that I haven't been able to find any of the parts that you mentioned in your video and description anywhere for sale.
I know. Some parts are available in the links within the description, and others have posted links within the comments. I’m so sorry. It’s incredibly frustrating that I can’t post an easy link so you can all do the same! This video is quite old now and I’m afraid the supplier is no longer operating.
48:12 That's cable sleeving. Used in a lot of applications but mostly seen in PC builds. Helps protect the wiring and provide a clean look. Typically you would cover all or the cabling and then you can heat the ends to create a shrink wrap holding the sleeving in place.
Thank You For Sharing Great Video Guide!! But I trouble in Front Cam. So can you tell me how to connect front cam (+) and (-) wire and where? what type of additional switch you added?
Hi, The switch came in the Volvotech kit. It's a little rubberised momentary push-switch. I purchased the second rocker switch from my local auto repair store, any rocker switch would do. I took the positive feed from the loom going into the Volvotech box (see video). The negative was just from the chassis I recall.
i have the same on my Volvo V60. Love it never head a problem but the last MOT it was a fale because only half the light came trough next to the camera. Never go to that MOT station (Volvo dealer) again.
I have the front and rear sensors in my 2012 xc60 and rear camera which doesnt work well at all in the hear. Front camera would be great to install. Thank you
So sorry Davide, I’m afraid I am not an expert in these matters... As you can see from my video, I just found my way through the process on my Volvo XC60 as a DIY project. I have seen systems with dedicated monitors available on Aliexpress, eBay and Amazon however. They look pretty easy to fit. Just require a 12V supply and the camera feed run from the bumper. You need somewhere on your dash to fit the monitor too of course
Hello Nick, thank you so very much for this video. I'll be picking my used 2015 XC60 later today but does not come with a camera, and now your video has inspired me to do it myself and save some money. Two Qs: 1) Does the reverse camera you installed comes equiped with proximity sensor that tells you how close your Volvo is to an object in the form of Beep..Beep? and 2) Since I'm located in the USA, I can't seem to find a the specific model of the camera kit you installed. Thank you
No 'beep beep' I'm afraid, but I don't even look over my shoulder now, the camera is so easy to use. Annoyingly the Volvotech site is being rebuilt at the moment, but their contact details are still online. If you email or call them and explain you've seen my video they can definitely point you in the right direction. They speak english and were very helpful when I needed the odd answer.
My 2011 Volvo xc60 T6 doesn't have camera but it has sensor and monitor. Is it possible to install front and rear camera in it? If yes what will be cost ? Thanks!
I’m afraid I don’t do this for a living, so you would need to find a very open minded AV automotive installation company to tackle this for you. I’m guessing someone would charge around £500?
What a fantastic, well detailed install video. You should be an instructor! You can have me listen and pay attention for anything! Cheers mate! #welldone
If you got the button you already got the same hardware as he do ,you just dont got the nav software ( i know i bougth a xc70 and bougth the nav software for it since old owner haden't choosen that ) :)
Wow, you are one adventurous guy! I'd love a cam for my new V60 and it looks like this is virtually the same setup. But it seems whenever I do something like this I get huge complications - like it doesn't work! Don't know how much support I'd get here in the USA for this. I wonder if the 450 euro price plus shipping plus 12 hours of my time are better than the $1200 the US dealer wants to install one with warranty. Fantastic video though! Congrats and thanks!
How did you solve the battery problem? I can get mine without driving for one week and the start and stop never recharge with system on :( seems it keep draining power all the time
Sounds like you have a positive earthing somewhere or maybe a bad/wrong connection. Mine has been installed for nearly 4 years now and I haven't even changed the battery in that time. It works fine?
Nick, great video, I like you measured calm!! the Link fro Volvo tech is not working are they no longer in business, I'd like to add this to my XC90 (2007), I think the kit os available for use in the Nav dash pop up screen. might try to assemble the kit from ebay parts. !
Hi, I was wondering, is it possible to somehow, replace/locate/modify the small switch behind the empty "CAM" button? To make it more like Volvo factory fitted? And also I noticed that when you are in reverse mode, I can hear your Parking Assistance Radars beeping but there are no XC60 car icon and lines on the small screen? Very well made and good guide. I thank you for making this guide and hope you keep doing guides for your car :)
Hi Nicklas, I think we'll record a little update pretty soon for this as the system is still working brilliantly and I've discovered there are several ways you can access the camera and cycle through the AV inputs using the existing dash buttons. I'm also thinking about installing a TV tuner or media player - possibly an iPhone connection to mirror the phone screen. If I do, there will be another video! You're right, the car diagram doesn't appear on screen, but never did in my car anyway. I may have an earlier version of the Census Connect system? I think it's fair to assume the car with radar visualisation feature would be disabled using this box, but I can't say for sure. The Cam button doesn't have 'Cam' written on it sadly (probably an available spare part), but I don't see any reason why you couldn't make a small modification to enable that button? There's a two-wire momentary push button that comes with the kit that could easily be modified, or the two wires potentially connected directly to the button in question. Hope that helps. Nick
Great video, on a side note i am trying to power a dash cam mounted on the rear window. I am hoping to tap into 12v from the rear number plate lights but i have no clue as what cable to use, do you have the rear hatch wiring info. thanks
Hi there, I only had the information shown in this film, but there are plenty of wires beneath the panels back there. Just take a multimeter and test the wires at the connections. It'll be easy enough to patch into one I'm sure...
first of all thanks a lot for the videos.... second can you upload the manual? i would love to take a look before buy it for an s60. Also can you provide the full list of tools needed to the task? Thanks again !
Hi there, please contact Volvotech directly and ask for the latest PDF manual. They have it in several languages. Sorry, can't find mine, but all the steps are covered in the film :o) Tools are mentioned in the film too. The £3 tool supplied by Volvotech did 90% of the work. There's a few other hand tools you'll see in the film. They all came from Amazon.co.uk. I will try to feature the tools and more in the next video. I'm now thinking about adding iPhone connectivity and onscreen bumper parking sensor data in my next vid. It takes 12 hours, but definitely worth it. I rely on the system every time I use the car and it hasn't let me down yet!
Hi Thanks, for your reply I did contact then but they refuse to send it that is why. I bought everything already from amazon and the box from ebay, 150€ only missing now because did not arrived yet the plastic tool and I bought an extra camera wireless because I'm afraid to make a hole on the plastic thing behind (the camera they offered e is good but need to have a hole with the drill they provide), I have an S60 I will also try to add a video for the installation since yours inspired a lot! Thanks again for it and I hope to see the next chapter :) About the manual I would even pay for it but unfortunately they refuse to sell the manual as well, I will try to follow all the steps on the video even if m y car is not really the same. Cheers,
HI mate, just a great job, my question is where can i order this cameras as in Volvo they are quite expensive, and i would love to had with your tips but can't find a shop where they can ship to Switzerland, can you help me you that??? BR Filipe
Perfect mate, thanks for the info, just one more question,as i was checking and they have different types of cameras, witch one is the KIT with the both cameras like you install??? Kind Regards Filipe
Hi Adam have you installed this kit in your S60 if yes please let me know if you faced any challenges during the installation and how it works - thanks
Brilliant video, to go to all the fuss of showing people on here how it`s done I take my hat off to you. Do you have an updated link to buy the kit?.....the link takes you elsewhere.
This might sound like a daft question but I take it you need the nav system to allow you to use the screen I have a Xc60 with no nav fitted ? Great video thou well done.
Excelent tutorial. I see that tis video was on 2016 and as far I could check Volvotech no longer exists! :-( Do you know someone who still sells this kit? Or other equivalente kit like this one? Thanks
Volvotech took 3 weeks to deliver the unit I ordered and it includes no installation manual! Since my XC60 doesn't match this video (it's a VBB7), I cannot install! So i tried contacting Volvotech support. Telephone? No answer. Email? No answer. Does anyone know where I can get an installation manual to install the VBB7 interface?
UPDATE: Volvotech finally sent me the manual. I checked everywhere online and could not find it anywhere though, in the process of searching, I did find several retailers that were selling the same exact interface kit for alot less. Event though the video shares alot of common steps with the installation for my particular 2013 XC60, my VBB7 installation is nowhere as easy as what you see in this video. Instead of simply exchanging cables on the head unit, you have to remove and take apart the monitor in your car and install a secondary circuit board inside it. That is, if you can manage to remove it from your dashboard. It took me several hours of very careful squinting and prying just to do the one step. The VBB7 interface itself is also much larger than the one in this video making it extremely difficult to hide it away somewhere in the lower dashboard. They advertise these products as "plug and play" on their website. Respectfully in my case, I would say No, it's not.
Mine is a very late 2013 (registered 31st December), and it works fine. Not sure when the model change occurred though. It may be Inhabe a 2014 spec model? It does have the newer headlight arrangement.
I’ve tried to source these units everywhere and I’m afraid it’s not looking good. VOLVO tech seem to have disappeared. Some other people have posted alternative units that may do a similar job, I just can’t vouch for them as I have no experience of them though... sorry not to be more helpful.
No computer update required for this and I still payt for main dealer servicing and they're updated the Sensus system with this installed. No issues at all.
Can i ask are you very tall as you stand well above your xc60 i am 5 10 but i am below the roof line of the car . Thanks for a very well made video you have given me the confidences to do this myself. I noticed you put the key into start the car but i guess you do not have to as my volvo is keyless start. I like you am in pressed about the fibre optic communication cable. So how about showing us how to fit adaptive suspension only joking ( do wish i had specked this when i bought my xc60 as it can be a bit bouncy) but you where really good thank you . Plus it nice to see a british person doing this on you tube its normally an american. ( steering wheel and stuff on wrong side ).
I'd of liked a rear parking camera when I bought my xc60 but alas it never happened. Maybe a couple of hours spent learning to park would of saved you a lot of time and a whole lot of money lol, still nice job and very well covered, thanks for the time and effort.
I am considering installing an alternative unit with wireless CarPlay, so at least people could buy the kit and follow the instructions for themselves. It will probably happen with my next Volvo.
This is extremely informative and highly entertaining to watch as a new Volvo owner who wants to integrate this. Well done from Dallas, TX, USA.

If you got the button you already got the same hardware as he do ,you just dont got the nav software ( i know i bougth a xc70 and bougth the nav software for it since old owner haden't choosen that ) :)
Nice video. I have just bought the 2016 XC60 would the lay out and equipment be similar??
Very similar. Though mine was registered 31/12/2013, it's definitely the 2014+ model.
Can you send a link for volvo tech please?
Wow, you are one adventurous guy! I'd love a cam for my new V60 and it looks like this is virtually the same setup. But it seems whenever I do something like this I get huge complications - like it doesn't work! Don't know how much support I'd get here in the USA for this. I wonder if the 450 euro price plus shipping plus 12 hours of my time are better than the $1200 the US dealer wants to install one with warranty. Fantastic video though! Congrats and thanks!
Brilliant video, can't find that pack on volvotech website, only rear one, any ideas please? I'm very interested.thanks
I'm looking into it. Bear with me....
The link for the VBB8 is expired now. Do you have any new places we can find it?
How did you solve the battery problem? I can get mine without driving for one week and the start and stop never recharge with system on :( seems it keep draining power all the time
By the 2ay can anyone send me the manual i didnt bought mine from then but is the same model i dont have manual i dont mind to pay for it
Elton Machado Did you found what drain your battery? I also installed this kit and have problems with battery if car stay in garage for 4 days?!
Sounds like you have a positive earthing somewhere or maybe a bad/wrong connection. Mine has been installed for nearly 4 years now and I haven't even changed the battery in that time. It works fine?
Thank you Nick. Your video was exactly what I needed to install my vbb and cams plus a neat trunk closing module. Cheers!
Glad it helped :o)
Nick, great video, I like you measured calm!! the Link fro Volvo tech is not working are they no longer in business, I'd like to add this to my XC90 (2007), I think the kit os available for use in the Nav dash pop up screen. might try to assemble the kit from ebay parts. !
I know. Annoying about Volvotech. Are they really out of business? There are other units available I'm sure. I'm looking into it.
Просмотрел видео на одном дыхании, великолепно.
I've watched your video like a blockbuster. Greetings to Southampton from St.Petersburg
Hi,
I was wondering, is it possible to somehow, replace/locate/modify the small switch behind the empty "CAM" button?
Nick
Volvo XC60 that is really great
Do you have links to the extension wire and the sleeve you used for the front camera? Thanks so much for the great video!
very comprehensive - ive taken the plunge and ordered a camera. great help thanks
Did you fit it Steve?
Dear, I really need the manual can you send it over to me? I bought a box but it didn't come with any manual.
Thanks a million!
Cheers.
Hi there, please contact Volvotech directly and ask for the latest PDF manual. They have it in several languages. Sorry, can't find mine, but all the steps are covered in the film :o)
Tools are mentioned in the film too.
Thanks again for it and I hope to see the next chapter :)
About the manual I would even pay for it but unfortunately they refuse to sell the manual as well, I will try to follow all the steps on the video even if m y car is not really the same.
Cheers,
Great Job 🎉
Great job well done. Very natural presenter.
Thanks so much!
Does it work for 2011 Volvo XC60?
Why you don´t mount a biggest display?
I like to keep everything looking as 'factory fitted' as possible.
Excellent video and i wonder that the same steps can also safely be taken for S60?
Yes I have done it to my s60 2014
If it has the same sensus system it probably would work.
do the cameras also function as a dashcam and record ?
I’m afraid I’ve since sold this car. But no, this unit does not offer recording capability.
HI mate, just a great job, my question is where can i order this cameras as in Volvo they are quite expensive, and i would love to had with your tips but can't find a shop where they can ship to Switzerland, can you help me you that???
BR
Filipe
Thanks Filipe, You can buy this kit from these guys: www.volvotech.eu
Perfect mate, thanks for the info, just one more question,as i was checking and they have different types of cameras, witch one is the KIT with the both cameras like you install???
Kind Regards
Filipe
Hi again, I used the license plate camera and their mini camera. This is where you'll find them: www.volvotech.eu/xc60/xc60-my-2012-2014
brilliant video, you did plenty of jobs but the proof is stunning, now I know how to do in my s60 thanx
Hi Adam
have you installed this kit in your S60 if yes please let me know if you faced any challenges during the installation and how it works - thanks
God, rather you than me tbh, you done so well !
Hi, I enterest to buy volvotech kit n I trying to search base on link that you given, but it's suspended.. Do you have any idea how I can get it?
Some one know where i can buy this
Sorry, Volvotech seem to have gone out of business. Others have posted links within comments to alternative products that should work in the same way.
Brilliant video, to go to all the fuss of showing people on here how it`s done I take my hat off to you. Do you have an updated link to buy the kit?.....the link takes you elsewhere.
www.volvotech.eu/
@@pawezielinski1666 Hi, Lots of people asking for the link. Where can they source the kit now?
This might sound like a daft question but I take it you need the nav system to allow you to use the screen I have a Xc60 with no nav fitted ?
Great video thou well done.
Good question. As long as you have the screen, I guess it should work as you're only using it as a monitor effectively.
Do you fancy changing the pollen filter in my V50? I have the new filter, I just need a man to help!
Never done that, but it has to be easier right?!
Excelent tutorial.
I see that tis video was on 2016 and as far I could check Volvotech no longer exists! :-(
Do you know someone who still sells this kit? Or other equivalente kit like this one?
Thanks
Please check the other comments. Some others are fitting similar kits. I’m afraid I haven’t seen them though. Such a shame volvotech has closed up.
Nick, that was brilliant!!!
Sounds and looks pretty much like the aftermarket bimmertech camera module that you can buy for bmw.
@@d.s.2016 Would you like to share the information? About where Volvo divers can get it cheeper. Thanks
Great video Nick. Did you need to disconnect the battery for this?
I don’t remember disconnecting the battery. It would be a sensible precaution though, so why not? Better safe than sorry!
hells bells the thought of this on my d4 scares me shitless!!!
I won't lie. I was scary.
I want to fit the same to my xc70, and your video is going to help me do this. Thank you for sharing, you did a great job.
Thanks Paddy! Have to say, I wish I’d seen the video myself before attempting the project! I’m sure it will save you heaps of time
Any chance you can link the actual kit you used for this?
Struggling to find the identical kit at the moment... Watch this space
Does this work on a 2013 xc60?
Mine is a very late 2013 (registered 31st December), and it works fine. Not sure when the model change occurred though. It may be Inhabe a 2014 spec model? It does have the newer headlight arrangement.
Brilliant well done mate 👍👍
Thanks!😀
An outstanding how-to. Thank you.!
Very useful video, Thank you.
Excellent video.thanks
Seems like the site is banned. Can one still buy the camera from Volvotech?
I’ve tried to source these units everywhere and I’m afraid it’s not looking good. VOLVO tech seem to have disappeared. Some other people have posted alternative units that may do a similar job, I just can’t vouch for them as I have no experience of them though... sorry not to be more helpful.
@@NicksProjectsUK Thanks Nick, that's all right. It's rather very kind of you that you replied so quickly :). So cheers!
Great video! You didn’t need Vida to update the computer?
Glad you like it! I'm 6'2. I'll add more vids on the volvo in time
Hi possible to install it on v40 and which kit to get?
www.volvotech.eu/
I'd of liked a rear parking camera when I bought my xc60 but alas it never happened. Maybe a couple of hours spent learning to park would of saved you a lot of time and a whole lot of money lol, still nice job and very well covered, thanks for the time and effort.
how to remove v60 side ven
Brave man
Fancy doing another one ?
I am considering installing an alternative unit with wireless CarPlay, so at least people could buy the kit and follow the instructions for themselves. It will probably happen with my next Volvo.
GREAT JOB! It is amazing
