FSG have got pretty much everything spot on over recent years and this is one of their biggest ever decisions. They have to get Liverpool's next managerial appointment right. Feyenoord has always been the most fighting club of holland. Raw and pure and backed by the hard workers of the big rotterdam harbours. If they lose they want them to lose fighting!!! Liverpool's entire playing staff from the academy to the first team are used to the 4-3-3 with high press attacking football.
Alonso and Amorim did not suit that style, both preferring a back-3.
Alonso, for all his professed love for Liverpool, DID NOT WANT the job!
So then, the most logical move would be for Arne Slot, who ticks all the boxes:
- good man-management
- 4-3-3
- High press and good defence (even better than Liverpool)
- Attacking football
- develops players
- promotes youth
- charismatic
- good with the media
- represents the club well
- not asking crazy amounts of money
- wants to join Liverpool FC

I just want him to improve the defence and control and the attack will sort itself out imo.
Reason why out attack is faltering because we have no control, we play tiring football and our attack is at time, more worried about defending than attacking.
That's not to mention Nunez and his finishing. If we keep him, he should be played on the wing and we should sign a true 9.

As a Dutch PSV-fan, I angree on all of what Rory says. Arne Slot seems to be really special for so many reasons: ‘overperformance’, talent development, aggressive playing style.
But if you think Slot is just another kamikaze-attacking Dutch manager, you are wrong.
In the last two seasons they’ve come across both Lazio and AS Roma multiple times. Lazio were thrashed especially this season at home, and somehow luckily managed to beat feyenoord at home.
Atletico Madrid narrowly escaped a loss at home in the champions league this season and in the knock out stage against AS Roma, Feyenoord were clearly the lesser footballing team in (no shame when you are up against Lukaku, Pellegrini and Dybala) but comfortably managed to defend the draw. They sat out for one hour just defending and not giving an inch defensively. When Feyenoord played PSV this season, all except for one edition were heavily contested and PSV were nowhere near as dominant as they were even against Borussia Dortmund.
Finally one thing in terms of his people skills. Feyenoord were in pole-position to sign PSVs biggest talent, Isaac Babadi, on free agent terms.
Babadi seemed to want to make the move after speaking to Slot but had one specific condition: he would want a guarantee from Slot himself that he Slot would stay for another year. Slot didn’t and so Babadi renewed his contract at PSV.
Slot almost single-handedly brought a huge talent in from their main rival. Slot is widely acknowledged to be a very charismatic guy, both by media and players.
On a final note: Slot is very interested in performance management and the latest innovations therein. Feyenoord have been the fittest team in terms of injuries and sprints by a mile. That is definitely one reason why Feyenoord was able to beat PSV last year as PSV has been suffering from many injuries.
We (Feyenoord supporters) did not wanted him to go! But we knew quite quickly that our new coach would not stay forever, as he is so good, that soon enough a team will just buy him away. That is the fate of players and coaches in the Netherlands. When you are good, you are easily sold as we are like a cheap market. If you look good you can buy great things at bargain prices. We never can compete with the big leagues, with their big money. Bye Arne, we loved you, we will miss you and show those poms that they have hit a jackpot without knowing. Good luck Arne, show them!
In Slot we trust was our motto at Feyenoord and that motto is still going on! Arne Slot is just so smart when you talk about strategie and he has so much intelligent when it comes to football! I really believe that he can make something about Liverpool as a manager! I know you guys compare him with ETH and I don’t blame you but please Trust in Slot! Keep that motto alive! Feyenoord and Ajax are by far the biggest clubs in the Netherlands but Ajax and PSV are more succesfull thank to bagger budgets and transferpolicy. Since Te Kloese, Arnesen and Slot that all changed with in the first season a 3th place and Conference League final, 2 season winning the Dutch League en quarterfinal Europa League and 3th season 2th place, play-off Europa League and winning the Dutch cup. Slot's way of play has been rolled out trough the whole club now. All we need to do now is find another Arne Slot.

Time will tell if he will be successful at Liverpool FC, but as a Feyenoord fan I can honestly say the Slot years have been great and he really deserves this opportunity, We will miss him and we are wondering now who will be the new head coach at Feyenoord.

Slot will be a revelation. You can't compare him with people like Van Gaal or Ten Hag so don't make that mistake. Totally different person. Great communicator, the guy has got humour, is a genius tactician and a champion teambuilder. Liverpool has hit the jackpot. Congrats from a Feyenoord fan.

I just want to say that we in the Netherlands also thought what Erik ten Hag did with Ajax in the CL also was amazing for us... basically at that time in the Netherlands it was almost a miracle getting through the group stage. With this im not saying Slot=ten Hag ..im more saying that we don´t know what works and what does really when it comes to managers. Now what is better with Slot is that he has better communication skills then ETH which is needed for a Klopp follow up i would think. Also he has shown to make players better. ETH had the perfect storm with amazing youth players like Frenkie de Jong and de Light and also Overmars at the top of Ajax buting all the right players. But still Ajax winning against Real Madrid 1-4 away was a huge achievement and also in 2021/2022 Ajax won all of their group matches in the CL and On 16 January 2022, Ten Hag became the fastest manager in league history to reach 100 wins with Ajax.. just saying that you dont know what is what until you see it. Dezerbi is very highly ranked as a manager but now almost has the same amount of points as Bournemouth. In the end its all very complicated

As a Liverpool fan, I love the positive attitude. It's the same attitude I have for this appointment, but at the same time after Klopp you need to have a rebound coach, that has no pressure on him. If he succeeds, great! If he doesn't, no hard feelings we are going after top manager next!

people will mock his appointment but let’s look at all the options, there’s a few managers out their who could maybe come in and have a good year or 2 but liverpools structure prefers long term managers and if we had to hire any manager for 4/5 years right now he’d be my choice, the only close ones for me are tuchel and amorim, amorim plays a 3-4-3 so it would take a year or 2 to reshape the squad and if it went wrong what klopp left will be pointless then tuchel i don’t think has the calibre to win a prem, might win a UCL but not the league

Hes currently 2nd in the league, 10pts behind.
Feyenoord have been consistently in the top 3 without him, only finishing outside of the top 3 once in 8 years.
They won the league in 2017 and Slot won it last season.
Rory acting like hes taken some midtable team and made them into a dominant force, when in reality hes kept them roughly where they have been for years with one good season as a slight outlayer.
No difference between becoming third with 25 points behind or first with a nine point marge? Or an empty or full wallet? Sad or happy fans? Educate yourself before giving comment.
And the season Arne Slot won was the league was the season Ten Hag was no longer there.
Slot feels far more right to me than Alonso, but anyone would be a gamble. Will he be a Klopp or a Ten Haag. Fairly optimistic though.
