As a victim of bullying as a kid for about *6 years of my life* , Im really glad this episode presented people with the underlying dark side of bullying that often is overlooked, specifically why bullying truly happens and how to overcome as well as when others pretend to help you with said bullying just to gain publicity and exploit them, when in reality some wouldn't even bother to truly help.
Did you ever get revenge? You can do that as an adult. There's still time. 👍🏼
One of my longest friends is someone I bullied in highschool.. because I had dealt with abuse from a grandparent (which put them socially above retaliation) I had believed I was preparing him for the real world...
I've apologized multiple times since then, because I recognized the damage I came from and was inflicting on him, and he's a good enough person where he saw the damage I came from, and also saw that he was from a similar household..
Since then we have been best friends for almost 2 decades, because although my actions were 100% WRONG!!! He was able to recognize that I was genuinely trying my hardest to protect my friend from the harm I thought he was too soft to survive

@@artimator4714 Thank you, and luckily I don't keep in contact with him and frankly Im glad I don't, because I don't want to have to get payback on him, I don't want to live a petty life, I moved on from it all and got better
The anti-bullying campaign and San Diego was all a metaphor for Kony 2012. The whole deal with the campaign being more about the organizers than the cause, and with the manager winding up publicly dancing naked in San Diego.
It was misreported at the time that he had been jacking it, but that part wasn't true, he was just naked and having a mental breakdown from all the stress.

Butters parents are trying to be loving parents but mistreat him because they're stupid, ignorant and mentally unstable. On the other hand, grandma is deliberately malicious when she bullies him.
I was always wondering about that. Is she truly malicious, or - as she is saying some stuff along the lines of 'start hitting back already' - is it just her twisted way of trying to raise him into someone who can "fend for himself"?

@@mikaeru2079 They imply that she wants him to stand up for himself. But reality is she is just on a power trip, unless he actually had stood up to her in the way she wanted him to. She would have made him pay for it because she knows she's can still be dominant towards him physically. It's why you should never tell your child to just stand up to a bully, you should teach your child how to fight. And learn them how to beat the living crap out of the bully to the point where the bully gets too scared, once you know how to fight and stand up for yourself and you carry yourself in that manner, when you meet adults later in life that use bully tactics without being physical. They have a harder time using it on you because you now know how to stand your ground in a higher stakes situation.
@@mikaeru2079 The defeated look on her face in response to Butters' speech at the end shows that she was doing it to fill a void within herself and to fulfill own self centered wishes, not to do anything for Butters; just like all the other characters who were exploiting Butters and the anti-bullying video for their own gain.
Butters speech to grandma is one of my fav South Park moments
Butters always have great speechs, my favorite is when he talked about "life being ugly sometime, so the rest of it can be beautiful" (He thought he was dating a Raisin's girl and Stan got cheated on by Wendy)
The music at the end isn’t trademark. Matt and Trey made it. It’s cool to play it.
This episode will set DisfunktionaTV for "I should have never gone ziplining." This episode was so well written that a lot of subtext was missing on the first watch through. Butters monologue at his sleeping grandmother was the most important part of the episode.

Grandma Stotch is Butters' paternal grandmother, and the mother of Stephen Stotch. She appears in the Season Sixteen episode, "Butterballs".
It’s sad that he’s unaware that chef is no longer apart of the show at that point in time, no only was his character killed off but shortly after his voice actor passed away too

I think this episode is very clever. There's bullying happening all over the episode. Butters and his grandma, the bully campaign leader and Stan's scene, movie company president and bully campaign leader and more.

Like... for the longest time, I thought it was the diminutive of "bull", as in a male cow - cos you know the stereotypes around them - which seems kinda $€x!$t in hindsight, implying that only boys can be bullies, but it turns out that's not even the correct etymology.

Hey, i know you didn't know or mean anything by it but the guy who played Chef actually left the show then his VA actually passed on IRL. He hasent been a part of the show since the Scientology episode in season 9 and the character retired from the show back at the start of season 10.

Is there’s one South Park joke I’ve never understood it’s “Jackin’ it San Diego”, I don’t know if it’s a local reference that someone overseas (like myself) wouldn’t get, but it always goes right over my head.
I like the through line they did with it, but I just never got the joke *shrugs*
When I first watched this episode when it aired it didn't hit me early in the episode when Kyle said jackin it in San Diego. Then when the song kicked it in it hit me. It's a reference to the Koney 2012 awareness campaign. The founder went crazy after receiving all the criticism and was found walking around naked in a daze in San Diego. He wasn't actually masturbating though, the initial reports on the story reported it as such but it turned out he was just walking around naked. The whole plot about the bullying awareness campaign was criticism of Koney 2012 where the organizers were making it about themselves than actually bringing awareness to the atrocities the LRA were committing in Uganda.

Personally, I can't stand Mr. Mackey's current voice. In the early seasons, he had a more elegant and classy voice, basically riffing on that sort of classy, upper-class New Englander type voice (albeit with a more Southern/Appalachian type accent), but now he sounds a lot more derpy, like the hillbilly cousin of Patrick Star or something.
