  • What beer is to Germans, vodka is to Russians. The Russians consume around 60 liters of their national drink per capita per year - as cheap liquor, fine drink and home-distilled. But the high alcohol consumption has consequences: every year around 30,000 people in Russia die of alcohol poisoning. WELT reporter Christoph Wanner has taken a closer look at the production and sales of Vodka - a lucrative business in which not everything is right.

Poor people lead astray by a vampiric business model . Everyone looks at alcohol as a reward when its a noose around their necks . My culture , Acadian/ Cajun , has had the same attitude about beer . We treated beer like a rite of passage to adulthood . If you were old enough to drink you were a man . Thankfully , after centuries of disfunction we are seeing a turn away from daily drinking . Consequently its a lot easier for people to refuse alcohol now than ever before . The cultural peer pressure is not so strong .

Thank you I appreciate this behind the scenes look. As well as being able to get an idea of how it affects people's interactions with each other. Seeing that the grain has to sprout is something I'd never been aware of. Although I rarely drink hard liquor now and never really did in my life, I have been able to appreciate the differences in vodkas sold here in America. Being of Mexican descent I haven't really had a lot of experiences with tequila or mezcal other than to say I prefer mezcal. I'm 64 when I was in my mid to late teens I remember drinking a good part of a bottle of mescall and I felt great!!! When I was dropped off in front of my house at about 3:00 4:00 in the morning I kept wondering why when I was walking so straight the ground would tilt to the left and to the right. Later on when I gotten out of the army I remember trying stolichnaya for the first time. I was able to drink a good part of that bottle and felt great!! No ground tilting no vomiting no nothing. I figured it must not have been that bad of a vodka. All in all I see what other people are making jabs at but I appreciate the whole thing in itself.

you my friend are actually very rare! it sounds like you have a rare genetic mutation called the COMT mutation, around 8% of the world has it, and what happens is alcohol essentially floods your dopamine receptors, causing you to feel REALLY good, REALLY fast, and you feel better & better as you drink more.

Chicken- egg. What came first? Alcohol is a depressant. You will eventually get DEPRESSED. Folks tend to get violent as well. russian males have a hard time holding a job once they start drinking methanol or huffing rocket fuel. Once they get conscripted, they go into alcohol withdrawals, so they will drink ANY kind of alcoholic beverage, poisoned on not. Some go blind. Some just hang themselves. 400 years of institutional alcoholism has created a mind numbing amount of servile behavior in russia, not to mention brain damage, mental retardation and fetal alcohol syndrome. Little surprise the russian birth rate is dropping precipitously.

Command bent over backwards in their efforts, but , the White House was in charge. Most of the higher ranks had suffered throgh WW2, and the Korean conflict. They knew what damage bad Leadership could cause. They- tried to protect the lower ranks. No US serviceman was ever mistreated, not respected as the present Russ forces are now. No General, Admiral, Colonel etc etc should ever forget that without subordinate support, they are useless.
