Holy Crap! My old stompin' grounds! I was 15 when this was made. We used to burn these streets up! We'd stop by that Racetrack by Lee's Chicken on Highway 31 coming from Hartselle, right when you get into town and fill up with gas for .99 cents a gallon. Then we'd go cruise and get into mischief all night. Those were some really great, care free days for me :)
This was taken on my 18th birthday. I’m from Trinity and I very well remember when Decatur looked like this. I don’t live there anymore but I do pass through occasionally to visit family. Wow does it look different now!
I was on the back half of ninth grade then. Lived outside of Decatur more toward Priceville. I remember that Shell Station was always called the Hell station because the S on the neon sign was always burned out.
Wow, Decatur has changed a lot now living in 2019, but the roads and some of the businesses are still around, good to see what Decatur looked like back then.
Wow no words! I was borin in 1999 and moved to Alabama in late 02 early 03 one of my early memories from there was going to florence, muscle shoals, hunsville, and Decatur on the weekends and I remember always seeing the Kmart on south Decatur surrounded by a bunch of new stores and a children’s park I didn’t know that Kmart had existed since the early 90’s and I recognized that sign that said Tuscumbia I use to bust there too by muscle shoals. I moved from Alabama to California in 2010 I haven’t visited since
2018, Kmart gone, Davenport Motors gone, or at least moved towards Hartselle on 31, Milk plant gone, ALL of that around the water has changed, tons of new things built around it along with a walking track. Honda Motorcycles is gone, along with a bunch more places along the Beltline....
Just for laughs the Shell Station at 2:55 for years the S light in the Shell sign was ALWAYS burned out so in high school we called it the Hell Station
Feb 11,1990.....I was in ninth grade when this was filmed.....good lord. Man the Beltline has changed so much. Does anyone remember the name of the restaurant that was next to the Taco Bell? I think it was some type of Chinese place?
Correct. It was called Formosa. I remember it well as I used to go there with family as a kid. It was not the typical Chinese restaurant you find in Decatur today.
@@randymatthews5467 I remember Walmart first coming to Decatur in the early to mid 80s. It was first in the same shopping center as the old Food World. The spot where the first Walmart was became Books-A-Million and I think is now Office Depot. In my memory Walmart then moved to where the Publix is now and then finally to where they are on Spring Avenue now. I don’t even remember them being where it’s shown in this video but I was young and had other things on my mind! a I don’t think they were in the public location very long either.
So that's what the Beltline looks like without road construction. I had forgotten
Yeah, it's done now, but the road lanes and turn lanes on the Beltline are all wonky .
Yup it now has got 3 lanes on both sides.
Love watching old "drive around" footage like this. Gives you an idea how every day life was back then.
Caught a glimpse of Old La Casa!

I saw Centron Lumber, the old Walmart, Quincys. The city hasn't really changed too much. It still sucks.
It's changed a lot. So fuck you
It has really changed a lot. I am only 11 and I thought it was cool to see what it looked like 25 years ago.
+Stuart's Tutorials same I'm only 12, and it has definently changed tons over the past 20 or so years .
+Raileigh Stover Hey you should go to Kaleidoscoops on 6th avenue... My parents own it.

Decatur is just southwest from Huntsville, where an F4 tornado hit on November 15th 1989, just 3 months before this video was filmed.
My home town...wow...has it ever changed.
Yup I live in Decatur also

I was 8. I remember a lot of this. And had forgotten some of it
This was just a few months before I graduated. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah also in this vid the Morgan Lake was empty
Wow, not much has changed in the main part of Decatur. All that darn road construction though. lol
you should drive around video taping the same route today, to show how much its changed. I didn't realize how much it has changed in 22 years
It looked so different.
Wilson morgan 😂

Just for laughs the Shell Station at 2:55 for years the S light in the Shell sign was ALWAYS burned out so in high school we called it the Hell Station

@@corey4690 Thank you! I remember the two dragon statues or something they had at the stairs.
I remember it as Formosa Garden. Could have been just Formosa though. It’s only been 32 years! I’ve slept since then.
Wow. Beltline Road has changed, it's a 6 lane road from Alabama 20 to US 31
plus that Wal-Mart is an Office Depot, Shoe Carnival, Books a Million, and a TJ Maxx! The McDonalds has been torn down and remodeled.
my dad works at Monte santo. My grandfather worked out there as well until 2002

They moved walmart
Actually Walmart moved twice... They left the location shown on video and moved to where Publix sits... Now to the Super Walmart on Spring Ave.
