the best interpretation of this great bach's work adapted by Liszt.Svetla Protich plays with her heart. This isn't piano but 100%music. I'm a lutanist and crazy about how she treats the prelude, openly, trying to render the majesty of the organ. The fugue is absolutely fantastic ! I keep the MP3 in my phone to get it next to me. Thousand thanks for all your admirers. A great lady for a great piano !
She takes her time, so the music can flow and unfold its full power. The moment when the theme appears in the bass at 4:45 is simply heartbreaking... unbelievable!
Isn't this a stunningly beautiful piece? It starts simple and pure, and then progresses elegantly. Bach for me is the greatest man who ever lived. Hireshu san, arigato gozaimasu.
Proof that Bach delve in the Romantic as well as the Classical. Maybe even at the same time. This is my first hearing of the piece, but i have a strong feeling that this Bitch understands Bach. God bless you Mrs. Protich.
Excelente compositor es Bach. Él le habla al alma humana con un idioma que es universal. Su música toca las fibras más íntimas. Gracias Bach por este tesoro dado a la humanidad !!!.-
+Elizabeth Beth exactly! Another good interpretation is the one of Matthias Havinga (organ) on youtube also, but in a much more dynamic style. This interpretation is quite different, and very delicate indeed, and this sounds quite pretty too!
The music in Bach’s head hundred of years ago calls out to us and is as clear now as it was then when he devised the melodies, particularly when such talented and gifted artists like Svetla Protich interprets his thoughts. Simply magnificent.
Semplicità, purezza... Questa sconosciuta pianista parla ai cuori. Miracolo... Sia ringraziata, Signora Svetla. Farei carte false per ascoltarLa dal vivo.

One of the best things I've heard on TH-cam - along with her incredible version of the prelude. Thank you for posting this. I hope that this fabulous pianist is aware of the joy she has brought to the people watching and listening on here.
I have heared many version of this fugue played by many famous pianists , but I never heared such a deep interpretation like this .... absolutely the best
This is one of Bach's greatest organ works (of which there are so many), but it demonstrates perfectly that Bach was a pure composer, in that the the music he wrote floated free of any particular instrument. It is pure music which can be realised in so many different ways. By the Tim Bach was writing the art of the fugue he had stopped indicating any instruments at all, he simply wrote music. This quality of writing for no instrument means he writes for every instrument, and we are but midgets sitting listening to the tunes of a musical giant
Too many performers, and they are mostly organists because it's an organ work originally, treat this music as a vehicle for them to demonstrate their brilliant technique and they play it far too fast. This performance is superb and to my mind captures all that Bach might have wished to communicate. Thank you for making it available. I wish we could hear more from this wonderfully inspired lady.
@@RickT72267 My original comment stated that some performers used this piece as a vehicle for them to demonstrate their brilliant technique, for example by playing it very fast. That is not the same as saying that the piece itself is a dramatic display of technique. It is not. The original organ work is not unduly difficult to play. Certainly transforming it into a piano arrangement allows for it to be made as spectacularly impressive as the arranger chooses, and whatever Liszt may or may not have done with it is neither here not there. This wonderful performance by Svetla Protich is all about Bach, not Liszt.
I absolutely agree with everything you said…she plays this with such intelligence and subtlety…I’ve never heard it played better. No other performance I’ve heard, is as thoroughly aware and sensitive to the layers of counterpoint, as she is here. An absolute gem. 👏👏👏
Every once in a while I listen to your performance and I can enjoy it the older I get. Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this great work! It tells such a story...
Complete clarity, contrast and color mixed with extraordinary rhythm allow Bach to glisten and exude beauty in a touching and transcendent way. Bravo! A true achievement!
This subject is everything. Such a genius use of the surrounding E5/B5 chord. Bach has the ultimate talent for turning complex emotions into simple little phrases that use the most genius and emotionally profound intervals. Master of rhythm/timing aswell as the actual notes used. Just has a power that no-one else has harnessed before or since. It's so expressive; I really get a deep sadness from this one, but as is with most Bach pieces, there's still that energetic hope and recognition of divine beauty that underpins most of his work. You hear it in every note and every interval.
Чудесно! Прослушивание такой музыки, один раз привело меня к мысли, было хорошо не только слушать, а и самому исполнить музыку Баха. И я пошел учиться. Теперь я уже играю Баха.
I am obsessed with this performance. This is one of the most powerful piano performances of any piece I've ever listen to. I want to find a higher quality of this performance so bad.
Look at the way she glances upward as she strikes the first few tender notes, as if the opening theme is a notion that has only just come to her from another realm. Stunning and beautiful.
jesus christ. I didn't know a bach fugue could be so moving. this shatters my entire perception of fugues as strictly cerebral and intellectual pieces.

This piece sounds beautiful no matter who plays it, and I would say this is the most beautiful of Bach's organ fugues, and this is one of my new favorite interpretations.

As others have already remarked: So even, so moving. Nothing comes close to the way a piece by Bach can fill you with such powerful sensations of beauty, gratefulness, humility.
The funny thing is most of them do in the same way. Sure there are some masterpieces ahead of even what he could do, but those tend to be overwhelmingly genius (Chaconne, Passion opening choruses, Passacaglia, this piece, and many others actually I was spewing nonesense)
WOW! Great performance! Brava Svetla Protich! This is the only piano-version for this originally for the organ Prelude I have found here in TH-cam, that I find it perfect from all aspects: tempo, articulation. etc. Thanks a lot for uploading.

Gould never recorded any of the Bach Organ transcriptions. Aside from not being directly from the pen of Bach I think that his style of playing, low to the piano with tactile detached fingers, would not lend itself to the big full body resonance required of these pieces. Ms Protich brings that big romantic sound beautifully to these transcriptions. Bravo !

Bach's music can be sadly beautiful. And this is.
It uses the circle of 5th a lot, which can be an emotional chord progression
Bach's music evokes this particular idea of universal truth. Sometimes, the truth is hard to face.
