I’m a commercial crabber out of Saint Bernard Louisiana. I been boiling crabs all my life I only had them boiled . But im gonna try to steam some and see the difference
Capt, I just started watching but another outstanding video. Thanks for teaching, even us non-fishing commercial guys, what you know. It keeps the knowledge alive. Every commercial aspect has something to offer the others
You right about all. I hope your customers appreciate you. Been doing same except no gloves or tongs , let them walk into inner mesh basket, sometimes seasoned before the walk . No seasoning bay crabs are excellent, I used to cook dozen or so on stovetop just plain water, right don’t burn .
Awesome video and information Captain! Sad thing is people sale Light Crabs for same price as full crabs, it’s a shame. Thanks again for sharing Captain.
Great video!! I’ve lived in MD my whole life and there’s nothing like a good heavy crab, but I’d surely go for some lights no questions asked! Can you show us your best crab cake recipe?
Great video full of good tips. I spent some of the best years of my youth in and around the bay, your videos bring back good memories. Thanks for that! I've settled in North Florida and the crabs are good but they're not the same somehow. One of the big things here is 'garlic crabs'. They're cooked, quartered and smothered in garlic sauce. I tried 'em once.
Bob, I was excited to learn how prevalent but under appreciated blue crab is in Florida. Lived in MD for 65 years and can't remember the first time I went crabbing. We winter in SW Florida and have yet to find a blue crab that compares to a MD crab in flavor and sweetness. Big disappointment since we catch them in decent numbers in pots from our pier. For the most part they get picked out and used for crab cakes and other dishes vs eating them whole.
Bob, we winter in FL as well…the neighbor and I always have a friendly debate because he is from Mass, and they boil everything up there. I told him no boiled crabs for me, only steamed.
Love your videos keep them coming. Due to family events and this weekend being black powder season I have not been out in a few weeks with my trotline, but this video may have me on the water Sunday morning if conditions allow. Thank you
Good video....I'm in Maryland I don't know anywhere that sells crabs by weight everything is by measurement point to point. Theirs noway to know if they are heavy until you have bought them and got them home.
We used ole bay on are cab when I would go to my aunts house in Baltimore MD and pile them on the table and have a fest good ole day do you ship your cabs I live in Florida now

👍👍👍I more or less just boil my maine lobsters about 15 minutes or maybe a little less whenever the antenna pulls off 👍👍👍 make sure water is up to temp first 👍 add whatever you want after that. I never cook deer meat without some beer dumped in
I put Old Bay on everything just not steamed crabs. My son puts it on corn flakes. We're gonna do a video in the future of all the things to put Old Bay on.
I like to save the seasoning encrusted top shell, retain the mustard (yum). Occasionally dip a morsel into apple cider vinegar then touch the encrusted seasoning for a blend of flavors. I use the encrusted top shell seasoning for my corn ears, cold tomato slices and small fragment pile. Old Bay should be eaten after it has completed the cooking process.
I growed up way down South Louisiana. We boil them here, well come to think of it, we boil everything here so… Now ya got me wondering what difference there would be steamed vs boiled. When we serve our crabs we serve them on their backs. That she’ll holds a nice little sip or two of some of the most delicious broth. I ain’t saying one ways better than the other. But maybe a comparison video would be a good idea.
Love the Pyrex bowls on the table with the children. Have several sets. Not a better piece of kitchenware! Super flat base, right weight, great mixin' bowls, darn near indestructible. The best colors, Nostalgia at it's best. Oh, great crabin" "Catch Clean and Cook" video also. So, Hello from Salisbury. Surf Board? on the Chesapeake! That I've got to see. Oh, boat wake surfing. Have to add salt if using old bay. I like your mixed seasoning method. Each has it's pallet. yep, light crabs make for easy pickin' and eatin'. Rather have them that a packed crab that takes an eternity to disassemble. The few times we go to Red Roost or Old Mill, I almost cry at how much of the crab is thrown away by peeps that do not have a clue other than money in their wallet.

I don’t often see a crab house that separates the whiteys/light crabs from the heavies. Most places I’ve been to or around since 1979 don’t do that. They pass all the crabs off as good heavy crabs. I’ve only seen one place that actually sells them as picking crabs. It’s more fair to me. I agree with you about the Old bay- sure it’s great and all but not for steaming crabs. But to each his own.

@FV Miss Paula awesome thanks... we are planning on introducing maryland style crabs to our annual crawfish festival in philadelphia this year so hopefully we can get the system down correctly... hopefully it will be more on the heavy crabs but not sure how crabs will be in may...
