@@MountTinMan I did see you and took a short video clip of you at beginning of lap 5. Do you want me to send it to you? Great run, well managed. From the timings it looks like it went mostly to plan. Looking forward to the follow-up video.
Wow you are so organized. I also run Umstead every year - but I am the opposite. Never ever had a crew. I bring a box and a chair and use aid station food. This year I dropped to 50 mile because of injury - so I did not even setup a chair Anyhow congratulations of your very fast Umstead and coming back from that injury. I listened to your adventure jogger podcast and then came to your channel. I have seen you at Umstead.. remember your stash. I used to live in Raleigh and still keep coming back to Umstead each year to volunteer and run. I also connected with you because I also have old cars; a 1991 Miata and some older roadsters. Again, Congratulations on your Umstead !!
Thank you so much! I haven’t used a crew for any other races and my parents aren’t runners so I felt like I needed to organize everything the best that I could so it would easier for them. I’m sorry hear that you got injured, but glad that you still made it out! Thank you for the congratulations and for listening to the podcast! It was so much fun! And yes, I love my cars! I’ve had so many but I do love the Miata! I need to get back to work on my Datsun too! Thanks again for stopping by and for introducing yourself!
I really enjoyed seeing this! And I love that stacking storage system. I guess it's been a while since my last Harbor Freight visit, where Google tells me they come from. Your experience shows with how well you've prepared for the race. You seem to have it all covered with everything in its place. There's only so much you can do about the heat but at least the ground is still cool this early in the year. All the best for tomorrow. Have a great race!
Thank you so much! Yes, it is from Harbor Freight! There are similar systems available at Lowe’s and Home Depot but at $400 they were almost double the $220 I paid for this system. Thank you so much for your well wishes! I’ll do what I can to stay cool out there.
@@MountTinMan I got some hits for forum discussions on that storage system when I Googled it and the point was raised that the weight capacity is fairly low. So maybe it's not the best for organizing your hammer collection.😄But it looks ideal for what you're doing, mostly low-density stuff with lots of space in between for easy access. Anyway tomorrow looks to be a great adventure and the wintry stuff is off the table, which is a lot easier on the crew. Good luck!
Being new to the sport I really appreciate the video. I was curious about your fueling though. You said an Awesome Sauce on the half hour, and Speed nut on the hour (57g carbs / 430 cals per hour) plus tailwind..... That seems like A LOT. Again, I'm new and never done a 100, but was curious about that. Again great video, and I've enjoyed the training ones leading up to this.
Hi Tyler! Thank you so much for your comment! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! Before last year’s race I worked with a sports dietitian to determine my fueling and hydration needs, which I would recommend to any aspiring ultra runner. That said, it definitely sounds like A LOT but now it’s second nature to me. This is how I fuel all of my long training runs. Awesome Sauce, Speednut, and Tailwind in all of my water. If you’re interested in hearing a more detailed description of how I manage all of this I did a video about it back in November. I'll come by Saturday afternoon (after the rain) and will probably hang out near the airport lookout turnaround. Take it easy!
Thank you! That’s great! I hope to see you!

Good luck this weekend!!
I'll be somewhat nearby, I'll be in DC doing the Cherry Blossom 10 mile race!!
If my race was a point to point we could be even closer! Have fun at Cherry Blossom! I’ve always heard good things about that race.
cool! I'm pacing and will also be at AS2 overnight! I will look for you!! Good luck!
That’s great! Thank you so much for volunteering! I look forward to meeting you!
Peeling back the curtain to the ultrarunner experience. Great video.
Hi Dan! Thanks so much! Sometimes the packing seems like it’s as much work as the training!
I’ll certainly be there! Nice little wrap-up video from all your training and I’m excited to see what you can do! THREE DAYS REMAIN!!
@@ScottRunsnStuff Thank you, Scott! I’m so glad I’ll get to see you during the race! I’ll try to channel your closing speed in my last lap!
