On the first cut, are you cutting the edge and THEN measure at 16 inches? Or start off with a 16 inch board and then cut both angles?

I cut the board first at a 38 degree angle then measure out 16 inches and make another 38 degree cut. It’s easier for me to cut the angle first then measure it.

But in the end it will be total length 16” with 38 degree angles on both sides

I have a video called: DIY coffin shelf build how-to dimensions and angles break down, I go over the math and everything on how to get the angles how to cut it and even how to set up the saw. Watch it and if you have any more questions just let me know and I’ll see what I can do to answer them

If I were to make a hanging shelf for the wall and scale it down would the angle measurements stay at the same degree or would those have to be changed? I don't math well lol. Fantastic instructions and it looks great.

Same. I made a small one to practice the cuts and it worked.
