    How a Rimowa Aluminium Topas case is made.
    Hold your head up high as you glide proudly through the airport throngs with the Rimowa Aluminum topaz. A patented wheel design gives your gear a smooth ride. The outstanding aluminum design puts you in a group of elite travelers that will make heads turn and the crowds part. Space age materials and state-of-the-art production equipment put Rimowa at the top of the list for jet setters around the world.
    The characteristic grooves in the outer shell of a RIMOWA design make it unmistakable at first sight. Even without a visible logo - when used as a prop in many international film productions, for example - you will instantly recognise the ‘luggage with the grooves’.
    RIMOWA revolutionised the world of travel in 1937 when it developed the first-ever lightweight metal suitcase using aircraft aluminium. Since then, the grooved appearance has become the trademark feature of our the long-established company. It is no surprise that the elegant design and especially light material of our products have always been admired by cosmopolitan people who appreciate good style.
    RIMOWA has plants around the world. The Rimowa Aluminum Topaz featuring in this video is made in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.

    If you want higher durability and quality with the same weight, Pelican Air is the choice for 1/4 the price. It also has a lifetime warranty, can be repaired yourself really easily, has a nice aftermarket for customization, and things like wheels, latches, and handles are dirt cheap and readily available online. The Rimowa looks awesome though.

  • @cachem11
    @cachem11 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    They do look great and personally I think they still look pretty good when dented and scratched through travels. However, it is certainly not as durable as some $200-400 products from its competitors or the Salsa/Limbo from its own.
    The wheels feel amazing when new and become crappy after about 2-3 years. The good thing is they are warrantied for 5 years and you can still order from Rimowa out of warranty.
    I have a carry-on topas which I will never check in and to be honest, I prefer my Samsonite Inova. There are some Chinese companies making aluminum luggage range from $80 to $400. I might give them a shot.

    I have eleven Topaz suit cases of which seven of them we can't use . Wheels broken off or they catch the wheel holders Frames bent , Combination locks broken , Corner piece rivets broken , Blue plastic inserts coming off . I love my Rimowa's and because of there price don't want to replace them because no one can repair them where we live . So I am being forced to purchase Tumi but they just don't make the statement Rimowa's make . Just viewed the video on how Rimowa's are made . Really sounds good but they should NEVER should say they are indestructible , far from it . Easy to test when they are not full of luggage . Once dropped from the plane or baggage cart cart and they land on the corner you are guaranteed to have damage . I think the baggage handlers world wide do their best to damage them .

    As a frequent flier I am tempted to purchase one of these. I end up buying a Delsey suitcase every 6-9 months anyway. Why not buy something awesome and keep it ten years? The problem though is that no matter how well it is made, baggage ends up with scratches, big black marks, you name it. It looks like crap in a very short period of time. I've even had the TSA break the special TSA locks by accident. So even if I were convinced that one of these cool suitcases could last a long time, it would surely look like junk after 100 flights? And $1,000+ seems like a lot of money to invest on that little experiment.

      ZCT808 they do get pretty banged up, but still look cool. Do a google search of used rimowa suitcases. Personally I think they look cool but I'm going to stick with my ZH and Pelican cases.

      OldVillain I agree. Vick Vaporub even changed their company logo for the German speaking market into Wick to change the local pronounciation of the V like an F as in father. Fick would not have been acceptable to any parent in Austria, Germany or Switzerland. On the other hand I grew up with Col-guh-tay toothpaste, the German literal pronounciation.

    This was a lousy presentation. They don't show how the ribs are made which was my #1 intrest, they don't show how thet bend the parts in the press brake, they talk about semi tubular rivets as if it were unique and then they describe the rivets as having a strength of 27,000psi which is meaningless without knowing the area of the rivet....and the music is annoying.

    I really don’t understand why people buy these expansive pieces just for other people to toss around in the airport and leave permeant marks on it, except for conspicuous consumptions. Just have no idea.

    OVER-RATED. i have a couple of these and here's what you should know: 1) the wheel broke within the 1st year. none of my other plastic Rimowa or my Tumi have broken. 2) Design flaw: when you place the luggage down to pack it, the lid has no handle(!). The handle is on the bottom portion and you can't use the locks to lift either. 3) the TOPAS makes baggage handlers angry; every time i travel, i get one "huge" dent. Normal dents are shallow and small, but i think the handlers purposely abuse these aluminum bags because they're perceived as pretentious. Buy one if you must, but I won't buy another. Besides, now Rimowa has been bought by LVMH so they're aren't that "cool" anymore.

      Steve Mi rumour has it that LVMH bought Rimowa so they can use its patented wheels with the rest of their labels for “free”.

    These rimowa luggages show every scratch and marks. Especially when the ramp agents just throw your stuff. They get ugly after one use. Get a black one and save the looks. I’ll give them this much, they do have the best wheels and ergonomics. I would like them to have a more sturdy handle, not just plastic which bend and makes creeking noise.
