Thank you for this, Ren. I'm actually about to record the "tale" trilogy. Super gassed for it.

Omg, I thought I'd seen my favourite reaction video and then I saw yours. This made me as emotional as Ren's video did. I totally agree, powerful stuff that hits on so many levels. Another reactor said"Ren is a Wormhole, I need to deep dive him now" andthat's exactly it - I, like thousands of his followers, see him with one performance and automatically we feel compelled to deep dive and watch everything he has produced- and each piece is so unique, a surprise, covering a multitude of genres. He's a lyrical and performance genius, yet so authentic and humble. His Reach is two- pronged - those who simply enjoy and appreciate his music and performance, and those who resonate with parts of his story as he articulates their own pain and struggles. Imo, he's a born Warrior of Light and is now stepping into his Power to shine his Light of hope, inspiration and validation through the myriad of gifts and talents he has

American reactors got bunged up with the language/culture. Thank you, Chief, but thank you more, Ren. I lost my eldest daughter to the ravages of mental illness and drugs several years ago. Your performance moved me to tears. God bless you.

I am so, so very deeply sorry for your loss. I am a survivor of multiple attempts and reading your words makes me think of my own parents and how easily they could’ve been in your shoes.
I am doing well today but I feel your pain, and I definitely feel that of your beloved daughter. I know is watching over you from above w all her love.
When parents like you share their stories, it does several things…
It makes it ok for other parents - and other people - to share their stories.
It helps to destigmatize mental illness and substance dependence so that we can have meaningful conversations about how to better treat people who are suffering from these terrible conditions.
It helps raise awareness and it creates much needed teachable moments.
It helps bring healing to those who have loved someone who has suffered/is suffering and who have lost someone in this way, and especially heals those who share their own stories and their grief and their journeys.
And lastly - although certainly not least - it helps people like me truly see the grief we would’ve left in our wake had we had been successful. It makes us think. Hard.
While I’m sure you would much rather not be in the position of being a parent w such a story to share, please know how much you’ve helped me today, and anyone else who read your comment.
Idk if it brings you even the tiniest bit of comfort hearing that, but you are making a difference. You are an inspiration. You are part of the solution.
Idk…I feel like my words are jumbled and I deeply hope I am not offending you or hurting you in any way. Please forgive me if I am out of line.
If you’ve read my words, thank you so much for taking the time to do so.
Again, I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter. I will keep her spirit in my heart, and you and your family in my thoughts.
Sending peace, love, and constant healing.
Chief - thank you for your beautiful, honest, moving reaction, and for creating a safe place to open ourselves up to discussing this pain.
And to Ren, should you ever read this…thank you for making this conversation possible. Thank you for this work of art. Thank you for everything.

The reason this song hits people is because he is not just singing, he is speaking an eternal truth that many people know intuitively but have ignored and suppressed. The Divine is speaking through him, WAKING people up so they can heal. It is more powerful than even he realizes. This song, and his music, is going to help a LOT of people. I am in love with his energy and I cant wait to see how this wave of unconditional love continues to engulf the planet 💗

After watching Hi Ren I felt so naked and exposed, like I’ve been walking around invisible and someone suddenly squared up to me and looked me dead in the eyes. Your analogy is so true - having been in the dark and feeling alone, but finding there are many of us who have crawled out from that pit, and we don’t forget about those still in the pit. Ren’s voice echoes through the abyss. He is a bard. A minstrel of torture. Simply Incredible.

I don't know how I stumbled upon your reaction, but I'm thankful I did. REN has produced something that I believe every human being experiences on some level. For me, it was drug and alcohol addiction.
The spiritual battle got so much bigger when I stopped drinking and using. My demons were always there waiting and poking holes, hoping I would cave. In March, I will have 27 years clean.
Now YOU.. your reaction is exactly what I'm going through every single day since I lost my dad almost 2 years ago. I can not speak of his passing without falling apart. I've never known real grief before, and I'm afraid if I let even a little flow, I'm going to shatter into pieces, and no one will be there to put me back together. I sat here and cried WITH you as a result of Rens' brilliant video! A crack in my armor. I'll duct tape it and get back to going through the motions of my daily life. One day at a time. You're dilutional, guy. He has a god complex... where is his top 10 hit? Where are his Grammys? Nowhere! Pretentious shit is all it is. 🙂 It really is amazing. I've listened to him for about 3 years now, this came out late at night for me so I had to listen to it before I went to bed. After the 9 minutes I just sat quiet and wondered what I had just seen. I had to listen to it again and then spent half the night thinking about the song. Absolutely genius. At the end when he is "Hope" the camera moves different and there are lens flares to make the visual feel more "hopeful"... Everything about this is transcending / next level / indescribable. Just wanted to say that to someone random. 🙂

To continue your lovely analogy; The thing about running along our dark paths is that we don't see anyone so we wrongfully assume we're alone. We always think everyone else is at some far away clearing, and we feel ashamed of being stuck in the dark. There are in fact people running along side of us the whole time. We'd know that if only we weren't too ashamed to call out. That's why we are comforted by people's stories about themselves. They are that call from the darkness.
A story told without honesty and without vulnerability will feel like a mocking call and seem selfish but an honest story told with your guard down and from a place of trust will always connect. Nothing makes us feel safer and more at ease with ourselves as someone else being open about their own messedupness (shush. it's a word now)
When you dare to look at yourself honestly and share what you see, you give me the courage to do the same because I can see that you can survive it. When you openly accept the scars and weaknesses in you, you are letting me know that the scars and weaknesses in me are acceptable. That's one of the most beautiful gifts we as humans can give each other.
It's in that space, between people connecting through the darkness, that new clearings can be created in the middle of the densest forest. That's how they all got there. If no clearing is coming fast enough. If you stumble and fall. Swallow your pride. Call out. Connect. Make your own!

@@Chief322 This is why I like you. You actually appreciate my 'pretentious self help book' - sounding rants 😅
That 'stuck' feeling IS terrifying. I try to remember that there need to be a place between what no longer is and what is yet to come where we must stand still for a while to work on the skills we were lacking where we came from, but need where we're going... If that makes any sense at all?
And yes, I totally agree. I think that's what art is really for. To give comfort when we're sad, validation when we're ahamed, courage when we're afraid and hope when we're hopeless, and I think this song does it all.
Big shout out to Gary for making this reaction happen!

I’ve watched this video so much! I can’t even explain how much this has just blown my mind! It’s an art piece!!
Everything is so thought out with this! The way he is wheeled in but leaves the video stood up on his own two feet! The way the lights only flicker when his ‘inner voice’ is speaking. Then how he portrays when each side has fully taken over as he stares in to the camera when he sings the two sides at the end. I could go in forever but it has completely made my year (even if it has just started!)

Was amazing to see your reaction, dont ever apologise for showing how moved you were. A friend shared it months ago and i absolutely bawled my eyes out. Such a powerful piece, a real work of art. Ren deserves acclaim for this, cinematically, performance and the affect it has on the listener. Im 45 and was brought up on all genres of music, but this piece was overwhelming, like I've never experienced. The lyrics are genius and the performance put it all into the perspective it needed to get his message across. So so talented and I've watched it a stupid amount of times. Seeing a man moved by this makes it all the more poignant. As men are often hidden sufferers. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this work. I loved Ren's response to you above too. I also love his Chalk Outlines and I will check out more of his work. Id love to see him live and will probably be the oldest there but I dont care. Ren you're a creative genius. I know what its like to struggle with lifelong health issues, I've lost so much but youre right things do get easier and we are human. Your words touched my heart and made me realise I'm not alone. So thank you. I also sent it to others that I know are struggling. Maybe this song is it's own kind of medicine in a way. It will help so many.. I applaud it so much.

I just saw this video the other day, I’ve never heard of Ren (I’m older takes me awhile to catch up), but when you hear/see genius, you just know it. No matter your favorite type of music, or favorite anything, true genius and talent stand head & shoulders above the rest. Very intense & moving. It’s ok to talk about one’s self if it is relatable. We all have those schizo moments, but having true mental illness touches everyone in someway. Maybe it’s someone you love or just see them living homeless under the freeway underpass. I’ve taken care of schizophrenics and it’s a heartbreaking and torturous life. I think this song does a fantastic job of giving people a real look into that mental disease. Imagine if that never ended. Your mind is always back and forth and struggling to know what’s real and what isn’t when it is all real to you. At least this is what comes to my mind when I watch this video and hear the lyrics. Ren is an amazing & gifted talent with a rare insight that brings people to a new realization of others’ suffering, and a deeper level of understanding & compassion. Thank you Ren.

That's so wild I feel like everybody had the exact same reaction the first time watching it I got all crazy emotional out of nowhere and started crying. That was actually a really good analogy talking about running through the forest and everything that was exactly dead on

Thank you so much for your analogy of running through the forest into the clearing. I will never forget that. What a perfect way to visualize life and internal struggle. I needed that. ✌️

The forest analogy is absolutely wonderful and super spot on in its relatability. Thank you!

I'd love for you to react to more Ren, more specifically, Violets tale, Screechs tale and Jenny's tale. Ren is a brilliant storyteller and I can't get enough.
I appreciate an honest reaction and am happy to be a new sub.

I'm so happy to see every reaction video on Hi Ren. This (I won't call it a song, it's a f'ing art performance) amazing real life story of Ren is something that hits so close. First time on your channel, but I'm subscribing from now on and please just keep on posting the deep "shit" in songs that you hear, shed the tears if needed, because life is rough and music and art keeps us alive and away from the end of the rope. Stronger togheter=always!

Your transparent and raw reaction was the perfect complement to Ren's incredibly vulnerable performance. It honestly gives his brilliance the respect it deserves. So, thanks for being brave enough to put it out there. And that forest analogy shows you have some of your own seeds of creative genius as well - really apropos. Thanks for sharing. And yes - this is my first ever comment...so sorry for the horrid user name.

When i was 15 years old, Nirvana came out with smells Like Teen Spirit, it changed the way I saw myself and the world. 30+ years later and another song has hit me equally as hard...if not harder, but completely different. Ren is like no ARTist ive ever seen before. He is real, he is raw, he's not afraid to be vulnerable. He WILL change and affect so many peoples lives with his music. Sadly, you can only hear a song for the 1st time once, and I cant get enough, I've spent the last 2 days watching EVERY reaction video to this song i can find, because the next best thing is seeing others react and they all have the same reaction...stunned. Chief, yours was one of the most genuine and for us 2 metal heads, it speaks volumes to this mans ability to connect with anyone, he crosses bartiers and cannot be pigeonholed into a genre. He is so a poet, an artist, a musician and truly a one of a kind. 12:29

This was a wonderful reaction! And bust those tears! It's okay. It's healthy.
I discovered Ren, through this track, at a very peculiar time. I had been to see my GP about some chronic health issues I'm having. Doc asked me "if it would make a difference" if I got a diagnosis or not... I felt invalidated, shattered, alone. And I got home, went on a rant in my head about the importance of naming our "stuff", because the name brings understanding and community, which brings self-compassion, which aids in healing. I was frustrated about how there's not really any art being made about the struggles of being chronically ill... Depression? Sure! Anxiety? Sure! But chronic illness, what it's like to live with those mysterious untreatable things? When doctors don't really know what they're gonna do with you? Nah, not really... People don't make art about that stuff... *Then I found Ren.*
