What should happen is the hotel manager should be taken in for questioning, its damn obvious the hotel staff have nicked it, in fact the hotel staff should all be taken in for questioning
They just have fallen into the oldest trick on hotel management... using the hotel safe boxes... Unless the money is counted and a document is signed for it's reception no hotel will ever pay for any "disappearances"... Was obviously taken by the hotel staff or even the main manager...!
5K 20 years ago would had been like 25-40K in Thai money. You wouldn't even take 5K to the south of France 20 years ago... Well definitely not those two! She's probably a stay at home benefits mum and he's a self employed (while still claiming benefits) crap painter & decorator.
And yet I left valuables, including £1300 in a safety deposit box, while I was kept out of Thailand during covid for two years and three months. It was there when I returned. I had not even paid the rent. There is no telling how honest they will be.
18:00 it would not be at all unusual if he was setup, the plant them and try and get a big payoff, police, lawyers and judges all getting a very nice cut and his business rivals get whatever it is they wanted
You mention that "Pattaya is visited by more than 400,000 tourists per year" which is technically correct but the official tourist figs from the TaT will be more like 17 MILLION in 2024! its been many decades (excluding the height of C0vid) since Pattaya even dropped below 400k visitors per MONTH, however as British tourists aren't even in the top 10 of citizens visiting by number yes your 200k brits/year might be accurate.
Yep in the UK we call our vacation's holidays... We would say... We're going on holiday to Thailand.. We would never say we're going on vacation to Thailand...
The most important thing when talking to Thai people or trying to solve a problem is to stay calm, speak politely and not raise your voice. Thai people don't like it at all when we are quick-tempered and opinionated.
I wish these people would make these documentaries properly and not inflate the problems .It's nowhere near as bad as what they say here ,but I suppose that won't make good T.V
Travel with your eyes wide open FFS, so many stories, i live in chiang mai but travel pattaya often see my friends, u can deposit cash into thai banks at anytine using their CDM cash deposit machines next to ATMs, never hand such a lot money to safe box, i mean why tell ANYBODY about the cash is crazy
I had my passport stolen and spare wallet credit cards in Pattaya last March on a BAHT bus my girlfriend jumped off the bus last minute. I got off quick my man bag was open my own fault I cancelled my passport I had to pay 100pound for an emergency passport. My passport and cards were recovered but too late. I've travelled 4 times and never had a problem before. I'm always vigilant and insured. I normally lock my money up at safe in the apartment. I carried my passport for identification to change money. Best not to carry it.
At least the police did something to investigate the theft of £5000, returned most of the money and the thief received a 3 year sentence. In your country, would the police even bother putting down their doughnuts and taking a statement for such a crime?
Kevin should move out of Thailand, if he fears for his life so do all people who have anything to do with drugs. Thailand shows no mercy and rightly so so with a prison that should be a model for the Western World
I am retired in Thailand for 3 years. And never I have a problem with missing or stolen goods in this 3 years. Ok , I am in the rural north east, but still I don't have any problems. As soon non thai nationals are around, India, Chinese, or Lao, Burmese, or even European nationals , I would be very careful. You can't buy a used car or bike, without to know how to do it. Or may you buy a rent car.

It's a Sawasdee welcome Inn - an absolute bottom end flea pit of a guesthouse chain.
The problem is that the government keeps on pushing Pattaya as family-friendly, and people flock there expecting it to be safe.

There are extremely severe defamation laws in Thailand. That's probably why they didn't.
So the Cost of an Investigation is £1600, split how many Ways in the Police station? Would you buy an Apple from Kevin?

Yes 20 years ago it was fairly common. Especially if he was the owner of a night life venue and was perceived to be rich..
The police kept the rest of the money, no doubt.
We need these consular people over here in the UK and not in Thailand. We have a massive immigration problem.
