As a hardcore C&C fan, I've been wanting to convert Ostfront or a wargaming game into Tiberian Sun... I have so many notes written down on how I could structure the squads, and tech. I just don't have the experience yet, but hey if I was determined to have years worth of ideas jotted down, I'll eventually learn to make a conversion mod.
There are lots of things Warno really needs.. I agree this is one of them. Since the game literally revolves around the cold war going hot, that's like the epitome of a breakthrough right there. A massive build up on both sides already prepared. It's amazing that Eugen didn't think to include it back in EA.
Real shame they won’t bring in maps from western front. I think the maps in SD2 are very same-y especially compared to the Normandy maps of the first game.
this is one of my favorite games of all time. Ive got over 1300 hours on it, haha. setting up defenses is my favorite aspect especially with "AG supreme" mods that add landmines and ammo bunkers. i wish the devs would release map tools. the only thing lacking is the lack of maps.
@@theShermanator Yeah the mod's great but because the game has updated recently the mod no longer works until the author updates it, quite unfortunate.
@@theShermanator In this case the converted gunners are supposed to be gun crews from AA guns converted into infantry units because, at the point the SD series is set (June-Sept 1944), the Luftwaffe effectively no longer existed on the western/Italian fronts and the Allies no longer needed anywhere near as much AA as they had prepared. The lack of AA is also reflected in a disabled unit in SD44 for the 3rd Canadian. The Skink, a Canadian made Sherman converted to AA use with a custom turret with quad mounted autocannons, was made in very limited numbers (~4?) and only one saw limited battlefield testing where the guys liked it for infantry support but the brass quickly killed the project because the intended target effectively no longer existed. The devs intended to include it but disabled it at the last second due to the extremely limited actual use but left it in the files to serve essentially as a tutorial for modding the game as you only need to add a single line of code to reenable it.
Well, yes and no, the mode didnt have you build defenses and stuff really, I dont count the 3 bunkers on the points as real defenses, however yeah join/leave in progress made WiC an amazing strategy game
It’s a great game mode. I wish I were better at this game. Just so you know Conv. Gunners were members of 2nd and 3rd line AA devisions that were reorganized (converted) and pushed up to the frontline in Italy so that some of the proper infantry formations could be moved to Normandy.
Id love to see a SD3 set in Italy, would be very interesting terrain wise! Or maybe the Pacific, though that might be a bit tough in terms of bigger tanks being limited
I pretty much only play breakthrough vs AI, mostly attack but a lot of defense as well. The AI places bunkers and various AA, AT and artillery units competently from medium settings and onwards, and on hardest he is very solid and has especially responsive and accurate artillery on this difficulty, very difficult to score a victory. Defending is actually very hard as your have to prepare comprehensively before the game to compensate for your inferior resources in phase A and B. Using your bunkers, barbed wires, gun pits and trenches effectively is key to success. Some maps are easier to defend, and some are harder, Small Illomantsi is an example of a map super easy to defend (if the enemy has to attack from between the lakes), as you can bunker up the chokepoints, put inf in the western forest + hill and relax. Some maps feature hills that could be beneficial to rush in the beginning and deny for the enemy, but this is a risk. Some maps feature lots of forests and thus favour the attacker as their initial advantage in resources let them field more infantry, and forces the defender to either give up lots of land for better defence or try to manage having less inf in the woods. Cities are similar. With nebelwerfers and katyushas, both the defender and attacker can ruin the day for someone in these situations though so one ought to be careful. All in all very flexible and enjoyable gamemodes that force you to think very strategically as attackers need to navigate prepared killzones and defenders need to compensate for lesser phase A and B resources with good planning and anticipation.
Army General is cool but I wish there was something smaller, more in-between skirmish and AG, early-mid-late would be cool too but idk if they have enough early stuff sadly
I wish the infantry overhaul would be a bit more better its good now but I feel like infantry needs a bit more wish it had paradrop options and such. But also different era ones modern would be great or Vietnam. Idk about WW1 tho.
@@lucas82 no worries, as long as you enjoy the game :) And it's probably best to stay away from the multiplayer unless you want your mother be brought up immediately
They better bring old maps from the previous games for steel division 3. If not it'll be just like the wargame series with weird battles in china with germans fighting east germans.
Its massive and has a lot of depth to it for sure, you can always buy it on sale and test it for 2 hours, refund if you dont like it then or keep it and keep learning it!
Think thats what I did, one on the left and one on the middle right, couldnt really cover the town on the hill with an AT gun tho I think, too much cover

Had some fun with this game but i hate everything looks gray. Also, had my tiger 2 get front pen'd by a churchill, and finished off by a mortar. Instant uninstall, HP bars on tanks is the dumbest thing ever
I still want a Warhammer 40k game that is similar to SD2, would be amazing and very fitting imo
Warhammer, Star Wars, Vietnam, even MODERN, this has a lot of potential tbh, as an engine/base
why don't we ask for something nicer? Broken Arrow style 40k game would be Epic.

Converted gunner, from support units, clerks and cooks.
That makes a ton of sense, hence their skill and weapons (or lack thereof)

Ah cheers for that info; also about the game, I am very bad, but I just have fun with AI! :D
I love SD2. I play a 10v10 game every day. A favorite past time.
Breakthrough is fun! Still want a "campaign" or "faction play mode with sandbox objectives" mode for this game.
I think that could be cool
Army General mode is campaign?
We need SD3 already, and they need to make sure they can produce all types of maps for it, SD2 was too limited to just eastern front maps.

"Is the map big enough for the Titans in potential 40k mod?"
