    I use my 7520 with a Dell PR02X docking station quite nicely. It plugs into the docking connector on the bottom of the laptop.

    I got a chance to use a multiple dell workstation machines like 7510,7520,7710, 5510 and 5520, and there is a huge difference among them.
    I found 7520 one of the fastest and coolest among with a Xeon cpu and ecc ram.
    If u looking for solid workststion for video editing and your engineering works then 7520 is the best for bucks.
    Dell 5510 and 5520 are good for average usage but these are very lightweight and fancy with a horrible keyboards. 😂😂

      I have been of both minds with the "XPS style" and traditional Dell keyboards. In the case of these two laptops and the 7530/5530 laptops, there is a firmer, perhaps even a higher quality feeling on the 55x0 keyboards. That said, the 75x0 keyboard is more traditional and I certainly see how some people like it better.

    But what's going on with the overheating? A lot of people complaining themselves from overheating problems with 5520. I see that on 7520 the vents are outside, so I guess the cooling system will be better designed here?

    So funny all the people buying the XPS version doing high end video editing. These are the beasts you want for video/cgi etc. 7520 is a monster.

    Good review. Don't let the trolls get you down. I'd like to see a review of other Mobile Workstations. Most reviews in this space are awful so you could carve out a nice niche.

    I beg to disagree, if you are an engineer or architect, 5520 might not be suited for you. Not sure if you are misleading (at worst), or uninformed. The choice is so simple for those in the scientific world. Numeric pad in the 7520.
    Would I give up hard drive space and maybe a tad bit of memory to have a numeric pad(might not be evident for some but it's a must for some of us). Not to mention the trouble you will encounter with the dock for connecting at true gigabit speed with the 5520. Will say this about the linux version (5520), It's well known that the 5520 will drop packets so, you will be forced to use a dongle.
    That itself will make the choice easier (and the fact that you can now go to 64GB).

    • @DGTLBits
      @DGTLBits  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is amazing how often I hear this about the number pad, you aren't the first one :) I tend to use my laptops with a docking station at both home and work, so it never occurs to me. I also travel a ton so the 5520 was a better choice for me.

    How do they compare in terms of price for similar configurations of memory, hard disk etc.? Based on the number of ports, 5520 should be much cheaper. However, I was offered both models (both with Intel Xeon E3 CPU though) for about the same price. Does that make sense? I could not find any fair price comparison.

    Great video my friend,
    I have a question if you dont mind, is it normal for the 7520 to take around 15 seconds to boot into post menu?
    (I mean the one with Dell logo where you can enter the bios and boot menus)
    thanks in advance

    Nice review but the XPS is not ideal even for gamers because the graphics and U series processor. Also eGPU is not a good option because of the limited TB3. I ended up going with the 7720 because of the comparable P4000 card(GTX 1070ish) and still decent battery life. Perfect for me to use at work when im traveling and still play games like GTA V when staying in hotels. Undervolting the CPU and get you up to an extra hour of battery life too.

      Michael Lazarus the new XPS 15 is configured with an Intel i7-7820HQ with the Nvidia GeForce 1050 graphics card. That option comes with 16GBs of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. It performs better than the last generation Alienware 13.

    5520 IS A ULTRABOOK, NOT A WORKSTATION.

    • @DGTLBits
      @DGTLBits  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      An ultrabook uses an Intel ULV processor denoted by the U letter in their product names. These are parts like the i5-8250U that max out at 25W TDP. All configurations of the Precision 5520 use 45W TDP processors like the i7-7820HQ, and are therefor not ultrabooks.

    You have mentioned , that 5520 has a better battery life, by more than an hour in Wi-Fi test.
    I am interested, if you have comparable options of these laptops, especially in terms of:
    - CPU (which generation ?)
    - display (both 4k, right ?)
    - GPU (5520: M1200, 7520: M2200 ?)
    - battery (5520: 97Wh, 7520: 91Wh ?)
    Could you also specify, what battery life have you observed in Wi-Fi test ?

    • @DGTLBits
      @DGTLBits  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both had very similar CPUs, the i7-7820HQ for the 5520 and the i7-7700HQ for the 7520, I was mistaken in the video but the CPUs are the same wattage and power profile. The 5520 had the touchscreen option and 7520 did not yet both were 4K. In this scenario I was able to get a little over 58 minutes more run time for the 5520 in the PCMark Battery Life test. Both were set to the "Balanced" power profile for the test.

      Thank you for the answer. Could tell me in what range was that runtime (5h, 8h) ? Did you mean battery or CPUs wattage ? I am especially interested in type of battery installed.

      Yes, but typically they are not great value for gaming. The graphics cards in these machines are optimized for other activities.
