People should give credit to Simeone as a manager. He has practically kept Atletico competitive both in Spain and Europe over the last decade despite previously being just a mere underdog. His ability to integrate his players into a rather well-functioning side deserves acclaim.

We somehow got better defensively, Simeone is trying new formations like a 3-4-2-1 which is something i never thought i would see and we got better in transition from defense to attack at rapid pace

I agree with you that injuries could lead to our demise , I'm worried about players like Koke, Hermoso and Carrasco since they play 90 min week in week out. They are integral for this system to function properly for ex. we had played against Eibar narrowly winning 2-1, both Koke and Hermoso were out we played like a different team, nearly dropped all 3 points. Suarez, Llorente of late have been the heroes of late, but when they aren't having their day. Correa, Lemar, Carrasco, Joao show up with a will to get the 3pts, this season we are undoubtedly the best team in spain, and maybe europe each player has the mentality to do whatever it takes to win 3pts win ugly or win via beautiful football. They finally got the 9 that they’ve been looking for a long time . Even when they had grizzy, he wasn’t a goal machine type of player like suarez but rather a creative player that had his couple of goals as well. It’s been a one- two punch up top with João being more on the ball and creating while Suarez puts it in the back of the net. Defense is still solid with savic/ gimenez being themselves and hermoso stepping up to the potential that they brought them there for. Carrasco and trippi have been dominant in their role too. Koke as holding has been wonderful and he’s had one of the better seasons of his career for sure . Llorente and Lemar are playing extremely well with llorente establishing himself as a top 5 player on the club no doubt . Oblak is simply the best goalie in the world . I really hope they hold on to la liga and contend for the champions league this year !
Yo, this was such a good video. Thank you for making this. La Liga teams don't get talked about much even though in my opinion they're a lot better than many other teams in Europe. Back to Atletico, they have definitely been massive this season. Everything is clicking now. To me, Atletico has always bought the right players but for some reason, the new guys are always finding it tough to get their gears to click into the team. I am very happy to see both Carrasco and Lemar finally flourishing this season. While as you mentioned, they've been solid at the back, their attack has been toothless since Costa (before his move to Chelsea) and plenty of strikers has joined since then to no avail. I thought Costa's return was the answer but luck wasn't on his side. Luis Suarez has got to be Simeone's serendipity because that is a player I believe was born to play for Simeone but if the stars weren't aligned, Suarez would never have the opportunity to play for Simeone. If Barcelona hadn't gone through disaster after disaster, he would've probably continued playing for Barca for as long as Messi is playing and then perhaps return to Ajax or Uruguay to finish his career.
Suarez man. He is world class even at this age. I’m a Liverpool fan I have seen first hand what he can do to his team and the opposition. Probably the best player in the world these past 10 years barring messi and ronaldo. Only got better at FCB. Now he’s 34 and lost some pace and agility but the technique will always be there. He also is 95% of the time, smartest on the pitch.
Great video Adrian! Stats are a great source to add validity to your findings of course, so it would be great if you could keep that info in some of your videos. Important word would be 'some' in this case. Your videos were already great, wouldn't like to see you trap yourself with needing to include stats in every video. Which would end in you needing to come up with stuff like "The only player born in south London who scored and assisted on a cold rainy night in Stoke in one game", as certain youtubers have fallen trap to :D
Haha! Don't worry, I laugh at those kinds of stats myself! This was my first foray, so it was a bit stat heavy - like getting a new toy and all you want to do is play with it. But I'll only include them if they are interesting in future videos. Or if there's a player that constantly gets favoured by a coach and we can't figure out why, maybe I'll dive into the stats to try and see if there's something to it. Stuff like that. They'll add spice to the dish, not be the entire dish.

Hi, I think you did an excellent job at analyzing the stats and how well players have changed, but I do think its worth mentioning how bad they did last season with alot of the same players, I remember seeing that alot of ppl were calling for Simeone to be sacked in this era of sacking managers, the main reason was he kept asking his new players to play like the old Atletico, wasting the talent he had at his disposal, he kept asking offensive players to play a defensive style of football which made everyone struggle, and now that they have changed their style they realize a good offense is a good defense, Suarez being there to finish helps alot in this sense. Also, a notable mention is Herrera, was there in the beginning stages of developing their new style playing an excellent creative midfield role has been injured and, hope he gets back to his best soon.
It's a pretty good overview. As an Atléti fan, it would have taken me 2 hours to describe everything ^^. However I was expecting a more specific conclusion because depth is one of the key factors allowing the club to be at the top of la Liga. You say that they're only a few injuries away from things slipping but isn't that the same for 99% of the clubs? It's probably the most complete and well balanced squad that Simeone has ever had to coach, especially in midfield. Anyway I don't see them as title contenders in the Champions League because despite the 3-5-2 system (which Simeone already tried several times in the past few years without any real success by the way), they still have this terrible habit to drop back after taking the lead or just when they're playing top teams, being very weak on crosses more than anything else. That's why Simeone often switches to a 5-4-1 in that kind of situation because the 3-5-2 (which turns into a 5-3-2 when they drop back) is not efficient at covering the wings when the opponent switches the play with long passes. I would have added a few things on Llorente, Trippier, Correa or Félix but you did pretty good in 13 minutes.

Simeone's always been consistent with defending. He just lacked with attacking players that worked. Costa wasn't fit enough and Griezmann leaving. Once Carrasco came back and Suarez entered the picture it fixed a lot of the attacking play.

Bro Herrera hasn’t even started half our league games and hes such a liability defensively, he made 2 mistakes against Bayern and then Real Madrid which directly lead to crucial goals (the only matches we lost this season)and then a handball (somewhat unlucky) against lokomotive moscow which in the end made our champions league group more difficult that it should have been, he can definitely contribute creatively but honestly Atleticos success has nothing to do with Hector Herrera, he hasn’t even played 75% of the games, no surprise Atletico been looking their best without him these past 2 months

Yo, this was such a good video. Thank you for making this. La Liga teams don't get talked about much even though in my opinion they're a lot better than many other teams in Europe. Back to Atletico, they have definitely been massive this season. Everything is clicking now. To me, Atletico has always bought the right players but for some reason, the new guys are always finding it tough to get their gears to click into the team. I am very happy to see both Carrasco and Lemar finally flourishing this season. While as you mentioned, they've been solid at the back, their attack has been toothless since Costa (before his move to Chelsea) and plenty of strikers has joined since then to no avail. I thought Costa's return was the answer but luck wasn't on his side. Luis Suarez has got to be Simeone's serendipity because that is a player I believe was born to play for Simeone but if the stars weren't aligned, Suarez would never have the opportunity to play for Simeone. If Barcelona hadn't gone through disaster after disaster, he would've probably continued playing for Barca for as long as Messi is playing and then perhaps return to Ajax or Uruguay to finish his career.
Suarez man. He is world class even at this age. I’m a Liverpool fan I have seen first hand what he can do to his team and the opposition. Probably the best player in the world these past 10 years barring messi and ronaldo. Only got better at FCB. Now he’s 34 and lost some pace and agility but the technique will always be there. He also is 95% of the time, smartest on the pitch.
If Felix can finish with 12 goals and 10 assists that would be an incredible year for a player of his age and experience.

Great video Adrian! Stats are a great source to add validity to your findings of course, so it would be great if you could keep that info in some of your videos. Important word would be 'some' in this case. Your videos were already great, wouldn't like to see you trap yourself with needing to include stats in every video. Which would end in you needing to come up with stuff like "The only player born in south London who scored and assisted on a cold rainy night in Stoke in one game", as certain youtubers have fallen trap to :D
Haha! Don't worry, I laugh at those kinds of stats myself! This was my first foray, so it was a bit stat heavy - like getting a new toy and all you want to do is play with it. But I'll only include them if they are interesting in future videos. Or if there's a player that constantly gets favoured by a coach and we can't figure out why, maybe I'll dive into the stats to try and see if there's something to it. Stuff like that. They'll add spice to the dish, not be the entire dish.

Hi, I think you did an excellent job at analyzing the stats and how well players have changed, but I do think its worth mentioning how bad they did last season with alot of the same players, I remember seeing that alot of ppl were calling for Simeone to be sacked in this era of sacking managers, the main reason was he kept asking his new players to play like the old Atletico, wasting the talent he had at his disposal, he kept asking offensive players to play a defensive style of football which made everyone struggle, and now that they have changed their style they realize a good offense is a good defense, Suarez being there to finish helps alot in this sense. Also, a notable mention is Herrera, was there in the beginning stages of developing their new style playing an excellent creative midfield role has been injured and, hope he gets back to his best soon.

It's a pretty good overview. As an Atléti fan, it would have taken me 2 hours to describe everything ^^. However I was expecting a more specific conclusion because depth is one of the key factors allowing the club to be at the top of la Liga. You say that they're only a few injuries away from things slipping but isn't that the same for 99% of the clubs? It's probably the most complete and well balanced squad that Simeone has ever had to coach, especially in midfield.
Anyway I don't see them as title contenders in the Champions League because despite the 3-5-2 system (which Simeone already tried several times in the past few years without any real success by the way), they still have this terrible habit to drop back after taking the lead or just when they're playing top teams, being very weak on crosses more than anything else. That's why Simeone often switches to a 5-4-1 in that kind of situation because the 3-5-2 (which turns into a 5-3-2 when they drop back) is not efficient at covering the wings when the opponent switches the play with long passes.
I would have added a few things on Llorente, Trippier, Correa or Félix but you did pretty good in 13 minutes.
I like the way you combine narrative and stats.
It would be nice if you showed like a formation comparison and the changing roles of the players. Like what happened to Saul 😂.

Forgot to mention in my other comment that Correa has been key off the bench and depth has been great this season . Lodi / Saul / Correa have all been good rotational players and adding a guy like dembele was extremely important for a la liga/ champions league push . I can’t wait to see his debut

A mix of both I think. Atletico have improved a lot and play a much more enjoyable formation, while Real Madrid and Barça are poor as well.
Why when ever a team other than the main 2 wins the league while loosing 1 game all season you lot think the league is bad aint no one called the prem a poor league when City and Liverpool was walking ever single damn team in the league almost getting 100 points with both teams. The team is great defensively compared to other teams this season not a drop in level from anybody you lot just can’t admit that but Atletico’s team this season is more DISCIPLINED than most of the other teams in Europe that either is impotent or leaks a lot of goals. Simeone's always been consistent with defending. He just lacked with attacking players that worked. Costa wasn't fit enough and Griezmann leaving. Once Carrasco came back and Suarez entered the picture it fixed a lot of the attacking play.

Bro Herrera hasn’t even started half our league games and hes such a liability defensively, he made 2 mistakes against Bayern and then Real Madrid which directly lead to crucial goals (the only matches we lost this season)and then a handball (somewhat unlucky) against lokomotive moscow which in the end made our champions league group more difficult that it should have been, he can definitely contribute creatively but honestly Atleticos success has nothing to do with Hector Herrera, he hasn’t even played 75% of the games, no surprise Atletico been looking their best without him these past 2 months
