Our school just ordered meal worms for the first time to watch them go through their life cycle. Unfortunately, they all arrived as adult beetles with very minimal to no real way to care for them. Your video was extremely helpful with what all we need to do to watch the "next generation" grow and how to care for them in the process. Thank you so much!
This was the best video I’ve seen by far! You did a great job of explaining the information that others don’t always remember…like the fact that the worms shed (I went out of town and left my teenagers in charge and they worried they had killed some of them). Thank you so much!!
So my dragon (the runt) that hardly ever seemed to grow, I took your advise and started using your insect food to gut load his insects. He took off. He is getting bigger and bigger, so yeah. I will be ordering this again soon, and I appreciate you recommending it.
Honestly, we used to. And we have in the past. BUT... Not anymore. I can NOT recommend them as a source for any insects anymore. And I hate to say that because I really liked the late Jeff Armstrong before he died, but since his passing I never got anywhere near the service that he used to provide.
@@ColdBloodCreations Same experience. We called Armstrong Crickets to speak with Debbie, left a message, and finally got a call back almost a month later. It took her so long to return the call, I forgot why we wanted to speak to her to begin with.
Great detailed information. I am raising mealworms for my lizard Waffles, he is a Sudan plated. Since Petland went out of business there's no close places to buy them from.
Defintely do the research before you get your juvenile beardie. Its can be hard work at times, or time consuming for some.. Maybe Cold Blooded Creations will answer back.
Mealworms are hecka easy. All you do is leave em be 🤷 Provide them teat tubes with water blocked off with cotton balls ☝️ And give them fruits and veggies once every other day. Sometimes you can even go on weeks without giving them food. But they most definitely need water to drink. And most importantly, have a few oatmeal as substrate. It doesn’t even have to be 1 inch deep
I had a mealworm colony, they got mites , I had to dispose all the worms, I want to start another colony , how do you prevent them from getting the mites?
How do you care for them in the "alien" stage... seems like the video showed the pupa but the very next frame they are already turned into beetles. What do I do with the pupa ?
To breed them, not from a pet store as they sometimes have chemicals that keeps them from being able to continue their cycle and will instead just grow bigger and bigger. I personally bought mine specially for birds sense those chemicals can’t be ingested by birds (and will be healthier for your dragon). Again don’t buy from a basic pet store

Hello, i have a question. I am just getting into mealworm farming. My mealworm coloney is starting to turn into "aliens". Many of the worms are lying motionless on top of the substrate, as if dead, but i have my doubts. How do i tell if they're dead or trying to turn into "aliens"? I'm worried about them. Please give me some advice, thank you.
I am guessing you just breed these for pet food? I want to breed them to sell. I have watched several videos of others doing this. You use litter boxes? That would be cheaper than some videos. They show special pans, special buckets to collect the frass and skins, etc. Did you use soft wheat bran for food? Have seen the Amazon sifters are usually used in most videos. I have a small amount now that I been giving finely ground cornmeal. They dont seem particularly lively as your's did (and yes I am giving them apples). So how many meals worms are you producing monthly?
We use Insect Buffet which is our favorite brand of food. It cost more than simple wheat brand, but our production makes up for the cost, and a little goes a long way too. www.coldbloodcreations.online/product-page/large-insect-buffet-breeder-size
I got 2000 mealworms to start. So far, I'm pretty sure I've lost about 1500. Everytime I check the box it's full of dead worms. I sort through and remove them, put in fresh ground oatmeal, put in some apple and carrot, and get the same results in a few days. Any ideas? I do have about 10 beatles and about 50 larvae soon to be beatles. So other than the dead guys, everything else seems fine.
Hi. Thank you for a great video with lots of detail and tips. But I have one question please which was not shown in this video; What happens to the beetles once they have laid the eggs? Thank you.
I found out about the ants the hard way omg i didn't think that i could ever be so sad about a bunch of pupa and meal worms in my life it was an anialation slaughtered all of them .i had a square Rubbermaid container about 20x20x 2 with a hinged lid you could see a little light through the back there the lid connected i had them in my house on the dresser it was full of pupa ands a few meal worms we had an invasion of army ants come in and i seen a couple in a different container that i had other meal worms in and caught them smashing on some pupa that i hadn't took out yet then i checked my big container omg full of black army ants eating all the poor helpless pupa i almost cried because it was freagin terrible needless to say i killed all the ants and found where they were getting in and fixed it . Agree, some videos just take forever to watch with lots of useless information and anecdotes. I'm too impatient for that. This one was great!

Hey I’m wondering what the two different size sifting screens you use are?! God bless
They come in a set of 5 on Amazon. Thats the ones we use.

Hey sir
After sifting for how many days can't I see the mealworms?
I have a few Beatles already but how long will it takes for me to see meal worms babies...
@ Cold Blood Creations... Could you please tell me what size sifting screens you use?
Yes. I bought a set of 5 from Amazon. They are all different sizes. They come as a set.

Approximately how many mealworms were in the batch in this video?
Great fish bait too
What are all the types of bedding that can be used to keep meal worms in ?
Can small animal paper or wood bedding be used?
Or go to your local Walmart in the fishing section where live bait is sold, that's where I got my mine

How long can they last dormant in the refrigerator?
Until they die. But then we feed em to the chickens.
How much food is in each large insect buffet bag?
Thanks for the info, excellent presentation.

I like to eat them with scrambled eggs. Great protein source. The beetles are crunchy and bitter, those are not recommended.
