Thank you so much for all your great videos. My daughter moved out and left my grad dragon behind. Having no idea how to car for him I started asking questions at the pet shop I was getting worms. However, once I started looking online I found that not only were they wrong but my daughter was not taking care of him properly either because she was going by what they told her. Then I found your videos. Thanks to you and your daughter my grand dragon is much happier and healthier. I plan on starting to breed worms for him as well.
Many people have heard NOT to use meal worms as food for dragons. They were once told by a friend, who had a friend who had a friend who heard of this guy that had a bearded dragon and it died. And even though there was no qualified vet that performed a necropsy to determine the exact cause of death, it HAD TO BE the meal worm that he fed it the year before last. Therefore, meal worms are BAD. We have been using meal worms as a part of our bearded dragon diets for over 20 years. We have dragons that were raised on meal worms that are older than many of the people saying you can't feed meal worms to dragons. That said. It is important to vary your diet and DO NOT USE meal worms or any other food exclusively. Variety is the spice of life, for us and for our pets. For those that do not wish to BREED meal worms but would like to use them as feeders, one benefit is that they will store for longer periods of time than crickets, and can be refrigerated causing them to go dormant. Simply take them out once a week for a couple of hours and allow them to eat some potato slices to maintain their moisture. After a short while of eating the potato, simply place them back in the refrigerator for storage.
How do you cope with humidity in your meal worm bins? I got grain mites a few times I had attempted to farm them. Nothing like realizing the sawdust you thought you seen as it its a flowing highway of mites.
Great video!!! After I saw mealworms reproducing under substrate in one of my terrariums I realized I needed to try this. Easy, straight to the point - thank you!
