Thanks for the videos… Especially in the province of Quebec, there are exceptions, but, you will find pretty easily charging stations. Yes Circuit Electrique is everywhere, but Flo also. Suggestions: - With Circuit Electrique, like most other charging point, there is a red button. If the recharge with your cell phone, do not stop, you press this button. - A very good App to plan a trip is A BETTER ROUTE PLANNER. No matter where you live, it will help. - If you travel a lot, consider to buy an adapter to recharge in Tesla point.
I'm from Quebec City and I'm happy that you liked it! I'll have a Kona EV 2025 next month, can't wait to have it :) The total incentives for now is 12000$ (CND) (5000 federal, 7000 provincial). Next year it will be 3000$ lower (provincial). Then in 2026, 2000$ lower (provincial). In 2027, the Quebec province won't give no more incentive. No news from the Federal, not sure if they'll still give the 5000$.
Thanks so Much! We are making a trip from Oregon to Boston at the end of this month, and I wanted to visit Quebec City, but wasn't sure about charging options on the way up there. So we might try to fit that trip into the mix. 🎉
Hi from Québec City and, ironically, we visited Boston for the first time last week and we rented a Tesla for the occasion, my first experience with an electric car. Welcome to our country, I hope you had a great time. You are always welcome. I’m sorry you experienced issues (especially at that Hilton Hotel). Electricity in Québec (99% of which is Hydro-Electricty) is nationalized and owned by Hydro-Québec and is a major component of Québec nationalism, so things can be a little different here. Circuit Électrique was created by them and I have a good opinion. Feel free to send your experience and problems so they can learn to fix them, especially since you are a foreigner who didn’t speak French and thus was more likely to face issues that developpers didn’t think about. Quebec has the most extensive network of stations and electric cars. The reason is because electricity is the cheapest in North America (only 11cents CAD per kWh, or 7cents for your first 40kWh household consumption of the day), while gas prices are the highest (4.6 usd per gallon for regular gas), so the savings really come quickly here. DC chargings rates pretty much equals those in New England (taxes are higher here). I think you took the right route. We drove through the Maine route to Jackman, Maine and while charging was better than anticipated, the ride is still 3 hours in deep unsafe (we saw a deer) roads. Plus, the stretch between Québec City and the Maine border isn’t the most picturesque. If you want to return a second time, I believe the prettiest areas are along the St-Lawrence river, especially on secondary rural roads like Route 132 or 138. From Trois-Rivières to Charlevoix or Trois-Pistoles/Rimouski (albeit a little far) is where you find the most picturesque hidden villages. All the best!
You drove through my city in Concord, New Hampshire. My wife and I recently leased an ioniq 5 a couple weeks ago and we've been super happy with it so far. I am a professional motor coach driver and I often go up to Quebec City and Montreal and other places in Canada, not to mention the rest of the United States. Recently, before we acquired our new EV I did a trip up into Three pines which is just over the border into Canada and I could not help but see all the ioniqx and konas and Teslas that are up there. It was like the universe was telling me I need to get the ioniq 5 no matter what and it will do just fine in the winter times. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Quebec City. I have also stayed in that hotel and a couple other hotels in The Old City and I'm glad you got to enjoy the beautiful splendor there. Also glad you're feeling better from covid. Hopefully it wasn't too bad for you.
Merci pour votre visite au Québec. I’m glad you liked your trip. We speak French, English also and we live north of Montréal. We’ve had the 2024 Ioniq 6 Ultimate, that’s the AWD with 20’’ wheels since April, my wife and I love it. Carry on with your videos, they are very interesting.
Very cool that you like your trip to Québec, thanks for sharing! You took the exact same road we took when I was young to go to old orchard beach (very québécois vacation trip!)
We've driven from the Cape to Quebec on the same route. You were smart to avoid St. Johnsbury Ford. It's very expensive and has a split charge. If another car is plugged in, you will be nerfed. The Stanstead worked good for us. Except, I didn't have interntaional data on my phone and needed to use the store's wifi to start the charge and my wife plugged it in once I gave the thumbs up from 100 feet away. I have since ordered and received an rfid card for elctrique. Also, we stayed at the Frontenac and they did charge our car to 100%. It was wonderful. That area of Canada has great EV infrastructure.
Bienvenue au Canada . I"m glad you had a good trip into Quebec. We transited Quebec on our way from Ontario to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and I was happy with our experience with Circuit Electrique DC Fast chargers. As for your Valet experience, I stayed at a Home2 Suites in Atlanta, GA that only had valet parking. For USD $34 I got to park the car myself, hook it up myself, and in the morning unhook it myself before driving off. The only thing I got for my $34 was having to see the valet to get my keys back. And, oh, I had to download the Rivian app and create an account in order to initiate charging and, of course, I had to pay to charge. I'm not staying there again.
Hi, I often drive to Canada with my model Y and I use my Chargepoint to pay at Circuit Electrique chargers. With Chargepoint you don't have to keep a minimum amount.
It's soo cool when our favorite youtubers come visit us in Quebec! For us, it's very hearthwarming to welcome you here to make you discover our great province and culture. Yes we are very proud of our green electricity and we develop to share with our southern neighbor. For hyundai electric cars, i really think that for now they are the most fitted to our reality in quebec. I own an ioniq 5 since last year and your videos helped me a lot to understand it and also make an easy transition to electric car. You are more than welcome to visit us again! Perhaps the same trip but in winter could help your northern viewers. Tips and tricks on managing electric cars in winter are always welcome to us. Continue your good videos Ioniq guy!
Thank you for the video! I also was at that same Circle K charger and also could not connect to one and had to move to the second one! My BlueLink worked flawlessly through the whole trip. I remember thinking "I wonder if BlueLink has roaming capability..?" No problems at all. I could check all the chargers and their availability in real time; at the hotel I could check car's location and state of charge. Another thing did not happen to me - switching of dashboard to km instead of miles. And the car correctly showed speed limit but in mph. Was a bit weird to see "Speed limit 62 mph" where it was 100 kmh. Now that I think about it - I remember a popup on dashboard once I crossed the border. Something to the effect "Would you like to switch to kilometers?" and I clicked "No".
Yet another great video. As a note Hyundai Canada has redirected a lot of its Canadian Ioniq inventory to Quebec. We are the province with the most EV in Canada (by % of population) and the Ioniq 5 is top of list. I am Quebec city born; sorry about the wind, it's not a "windy city", I guess you it a bad couple of days. We are also snowbirds going to Florida in December. We are planning our route(s) and I hope Bluelink will work.
63kW high power chargers! Whoa Nelly, that’s too much power to play with! SOMEONE’S GONNA GET ELECTROCUTED! Seriously though, great video. I live around the Quebec City area, one nice thing about it is the scenery once you hit the highway, in any direction really. The charging infrastructure isn’t too bad either!
Thanks for sharing. Drove my 5 from NH to eastern Ontario a few weeks ago and it was frustrating from a charging infrastructure and the Bluelink issue you noted.
Quebec is fortunate to have some major rivers for hydro power. Here in Ontario we are also fortunate to have 3 nuclear plants that supply about half of our electricity.
Corben, I drive in the mountains a lot in West Virginia and it is mostly rainy in the mountains. Or icy or snowy. It is beautiful and green when not raining.
I just had a trip a couple of weeks ago to Quebec City from NB, Canada with our Equinox EV. Love QC as they seem to get it and have chargers everywhere. A bonus with our hotel was they had a Grizzl-E duo and I was able to charge up full each night. Wish the infrastructure to the east of QC was much better. Nova Scotia is horrible.
@@bryantaylor2946 NS has a larger population than NB. They just need to invest. Nice new chargers now in Amherst but cities and towns like Truro, New Glasgow and Halifax have almost nothing. I’m from NS and to try and visit family with our new EV would be challenging. They are instead investing in hundreds of level 2 chargers which is great for apt dwellers but does nothing to help tourists and others travelling through those areas. They have invested in windmills and need to use some of that energy towards EV’s. They have sadly fallen behind the rest of the country
Sorry to hear you got Covid! This same thing happened to our family when we EV road-tripped from home in Salt Lake City to Las Vegas using our EV6, and a Turo-rented Mach E and Model Y. Our hotel had four Blink chargers which were all broken, not convenient when we all rolled in at less than 8% SOC.
Bonjour! Subscribed :) I drive an electric bicycle... so all this is new to me.It's crazy how much software is involved and communications. I travel all around the world, (backpack) interesting to hear about my home. Can't wait to visit Boston again and now Connecticut :)
Canadian here, we use Watt Hours/km, some might choose kWh/100 km as a carry over from ICE. But if you have the car telling you which chargers you can make it to the efficiency number doesn’t super matter
What do you all think of the 6.1" of clearance? I live in Denver and plan to go on small hikes and trips (three seasons), and am a little worried about hitting rocks and such on the underside of the battery. I don't ever go "serious" offroading or go to 14er trailheads, but usualy prefer peace of mind on roads that are bumpy with loose rocks and such. The 5.6" of clearance on the 6 is the only reasons I haven't gotten the sedan yet.
This was great information. It makes me more confident to make the trip from Rhode Island. I hope you will plot and take a trip to Nova Scotia - Halifax and Lunenburg are great locations. I would love to take our Ioniq 5 there.
Hey Ho, Maine Resident here. The White Mountains are DEVOID of EV charging locations, even Tesla. I took a recent vacation there, and found ONE CCS dispenser at a car dealer. That was a mess, no card reader, a special ap and rah rah. The weather you had was not the common weather theme, you just had poor luck. Be glad you did not do this in Winter!
Those Circle K chargers are great. I've had real good success with them. I understand why you didn't want to use the 6 traveling, but you really should try it. Just counting trips of 1,000 miles or more, I've done 25,000 miles of road trips my AWD Limited 5 and 9,500 in my AWD SE 6. The 6 is freaking awesome. I'm skipping charging stops I had to make in the 5 and running faster. My charging stops are quicker because I don't have to charge past 70 or 80%. As a side note, two things I never count on are hotel chargers or dealership chargers but as I say that I have to admit that I used the Twin Ford chargers in St. Johnsbury last year. They worked perfect!
This all sounds wonderful. Montreal is on my bucket list. That was very interesting about charging in Canada. We are starting to get some CircleK chargers here in North Carolina.
Cool trip. Interesting the car auto changed units as well. I personally avoid using the km/kWh or mi/kWh and having watched Bjorn alot in the past he got me onto the Wh/km so use that as my standard. Quebec isn't of course France French, Quebecois or Canada French think it like American English vs British English. I've been to old Quebec City and loved it wasn't windy at all you must have just hit it at poor weather time. Did you try a Beaver Tail? Delicious is all I can, personally love the cinnamon sugar one the best.
Hi, I’ve had really bad luck with hotel charging, 120v, people camping at the chargers, broken chargers - all of these on level 1 or 2 but advertised as EV charging which didn’t happen for me.
Great to hear you had a great trip to Canada, here in BC our DC charging is still very poor, looking forward to Tesla supercharger access should we buy another EV
Hi I found your video interesting. I recently read a report from an English journalist who recently took a holiday (vacation) in southern USA he also did not have a great charging experience. Hopefully you guys over the pond will see improvements. I live in England, recently returned from a 5000 mile road trip in Europe, took in 6 countries mainly Italy. Here we are getting to a tipping point, in some places already there, where the decision is not are there chargers. It’s what chargers shall I use based on cost and speed. I drive an IONIQ 5, no issues with the car or charging.
I'd recommend using Flo chargers next time. They still bill by the hour so much cheaper. I did a 1300km trip not using any level 2 chargers or free chargers and it only cost 50$ CAD.
Interesting about blue link. As a Canadian. Y service works just fine when I drive down. Hyundai Canada must have decided that was worth paying more for!
Did you notice anything change with driver assistance once you crossed the border? Does the car camera still recognize speed limit signs and other road markings to show them in the instrument cluster?
We just had a 350kw Electify Canada charger installed in my city and they charge 60 cents Canadian per kWh, which at 5.6km (3.5 miles) per kWh means it's costing 10.7 cents per KM for road tripping in that EV at those speeds. My little PHEV gets better than 4.5L/100km and at $1.60 per liter that means it's at max $7.20 to drive 100km or 7.2 cents per KM. Gas is WAY cheaper in the atates than here, so no wonder people don't want to swap to EVs as much down there. It's sad how terrible the electricity prices are on public charging where I am. Just to compare, even after taxes my home rate is 15 cents per kWh, so by comparison the EV at 5.6 KM per kWh would have cost 2.68 cents per KM. My little PHEV runs me at 2.5 cents per KM from home charging (since it's a bunch lighter than a pure EV).
The circuit electric glitch via the app is a recent occurrence. If you stop it via the post it will close the session. The having to load money is annoying but the network is reliable as hell. There is plenty of L2 charging on Quebec City on the street. We are at 23% EV here and over 50% of Canadian EV sales. The provincial rebate of 7k is being phased out. As for Couche Tard/ Circle K their network can be really wonky and a hodgepodge of equipment..
Circuit Electrique is owned by the public utility Hydro Quebec. They're not the best chargers but in Quebec and eastern Ontario, it's pretty much all we have. Flo, ChargePoint, and other chargers are pretty much non-existent here (as they tend to focus solely on western Canada and all over the U.S. despite both of those companies having their headquarters in Quebec). Additionally if you have a Flo account, you can use that balance on Circuit Electrique chargers.
I wonder if it just charged you twice it was the same price. What is the likely hood someone charged the same amount? Since the app could not connect maybe its a bug in the app that caused it to charge you twice?
You said you used something called Sunny Pilot and comma. It sounds like that gives you hands free highway driving but i had not heard about this before your video. I do a lot of highway driving making several round trip drives from southwest Florida to Virginia each year using mostly I-75 and I-95 and would be interested in knowing more about Sunny Pilot. My 2022 SEL I5 uses HDA2 but requires me to keep my hands on the steering wheel and often tells me to use my hands when I already am because of the lack of tension on the wheel. If using Sunny Pilot gets around this I would be interested in it. Can you provide more info or post links to where I can get that info I would appreciate it.
I got a Ioniq 28 kw and never afraid of long trips in Québec Kw speed most of the time as advertise and uptime % just under Tesla superchargers but I wouldn't take it outside of Québec too afraid to not make it to the next working charger..
Number one reason why I am not thinking about electric car as single car in family- unreliability of Canada’s charging infrastructure. It’s not the first time I see similar experience with charging for other people
I'm willing to bet that Hyundai expects most Americans to never cross the border and so cheaped out on their contract with carriers, whereas many Canadians live close to the border and thus are much more likely to cross it and would complain if BlueLink didn't work
I have read a bunch of times that you should not go below 20% charge, otherwise you risk having the 12v battery die. But, you went under that level a couple times on this trip without an issue. Can you clarify this? Thanks
If the car is on in drive mode it is charging the 12V battery, so not an issue while driving. It's only an issue when the car is off (or I think accessory mode, but not utility mode), when the car is off it will occasionally charge the 12V but won't if the main traction battery is too low. There was a software update a year or 2 ago that lowered the percentage where the car would stop topping off the 12V from 20% to I think 10%.
Please spend some money and time on adding some sound deadening to this room you’re recording in. I’ve watched/listened to less that 2 minutes before I had to comment on how poor the sound is. I will watch the whole video despite how horrible the sound is. The echo is WAY worse than you COVIDrecover voice.

What a pretty place, how good are the comma 3x I have 5000klm on it and what a difference road tripping is, I love it to .
Nice !
I don’t even think about charging when road tripping on my Tesla. Chargers are everywhere 😂😂😂
I recently go to Massachusetts with my Canadian ioniq and my bleulink work
Hi, I’ve had really bad luck with hotel charging, 120v, people camping at the chargers, broken chargers - all of these on level 1 or 2 but advertised as EV charging which didn’t happen for me.
Good to know!
I was very disappointed that Bluelink didn't work in Canada also. Coming from Ford Pass that worked in Canada no issues, I was very surprised.
Strange, my bluelink works when I go to the States. Just last week I used it.
Right but at least they're almost everywhere.
Anything specific to achieve 3.5m/kWh? Did driving at 65mph make it so efficient?
65 was a big part but also Eco mode, slightly elevated tire pressures, trying to limit number of stops
I wonder if it just charged you twice it was the same price. What is the likely hood someone charged the same amount? Since the app could not connect maybe its a bug in the app that caused it to charge you twice?
No it was a different charging session. I could even see their charging curve in the app
Oddly enough, I have a Canadian Tucson Hybrid, and BlueLink works when goign to the US...
Try the Atlantic Provinces if you're looking for a Canadian destination.
Wut?! You came to my city and didn't prevent me? Tss tss tss
Hope you had a good trip.

This is the one grief holding us back from buying EV, charging on road trips sucks big time
I got a Ioniq 28 kw and never afraid of long trips in Québec
Kw speed most of the time as advertise and uptime % just under Tesla superchargers
but I wouldn't take it outside of Québec too afraid to not make it to the next working charger..
Number one reason why I am not thinking about electric car as single car in family- unreliability of Canada’s charging infrastructure. It’s not the first time I see similar experience with charging for other people
@@maks_bond Which province? Québec has great infrastructure. The central provinces not so much. I have no experience with anything east of Québec.
14:50, hydro power is not clean power.
Our range is per 100km, not per 100kWh
60 cents per kWh! yikes. 35/40 is normal in BC
Bluelink works in Canada.
Not for me. Don't know what the issue was.
@@TheIoniqGuy maybe the USA and Canadian iterations run on different servers. Just a thought.
Weird Canadian car wireless services work in US
Yes, works here in BC - Washington State just fine.
I'm aware. I just moved and am working on it.
@@TheIoniqGuy so sorry for being an A$$. I have been enjoying your videos for over 2 years. As a Kia Niro EV owner I had planned on my next vehicle being the EV6. A few days ago that proved to be false and I’m now an Ioniq 5 owner. I’ve enjoyed your videos and shortly I will be placing an order to enjoy some of your items. Is your store you up and running?
